dunno if this has been mentioned before but wouldnt it be great if we had control vinly that didnt skip when you do certain scratches.

mmm... how??
anyways, you can create skipless Y samples and use repeat feature to loop it.
just create a sample 1.8 second long. search the forum, inside tips and tricks section there is a thread that explain how to do it.

i was just thinking that that with the super seal breaks and record like them they are skip proof. i can tap the record as much as i like (dont ask me what the specific name of the move is i dont know all that)
but your saying the Y method sorts this out....
ill give it a go. ...

this is the first time i think i am going to be helping someone... let me know if it helps...
skipless scratches are a reality in SSL... just scratch in REL mode... not that i have had any probs in ABS mode, but in REL mode no matter what happens to the needle itll still be in the same place... this will not allow for Y samples...
i think i might know what the EFF im talking about here... let me know if im a complete moron.. that does not allow for any jerk in the forum to tell me im a moron...

But relative mode ain't perfect, my friend...Sticker drifting for example.

exactly, the sticker drifting nightmare... its a pity, because with relative mode you can do things impossible to do with absolute!

imagine 2 stickers on a record; one at 6 o'clock and one at 12 o'clock. you have this setup on both records. when you juggle between both of them, if the record happens to skip when you pull the record back to one of those stickers, it won't be the same spot.

Basically the same point in a song eg a vocal starting at 2:01:07 does not always fall on the same spot on the physical SSL record. The points shift. This is expected in relative mode by design but SUCKS big time in absolute mode.

Unfortunately yes, I have tried to make all conditions as perfect as possible, but this is one monkey that will just not get off my back.
The drift is not bad on slow scratches but once the speed increases it becomes worse till there is a 'skip'in the sound when SSL is compensating to return the sound to its original location and then we start all over.

s42000, wow. This happens for me only when I cue very very fast! And I cant imagine someone was scratching with control at that fast cue speed.
Okay, now we could go through the well-known-procedure.. "you got your threshold/needles/dadadidddadiddaa". If you say everything is fine at your setup... -> no idea :-(

If I was an accomplished turntablist, Im sure my brain would compensate really quick on the subtle sticker drift. But being a 'rookie' I heavily rely on my sample being at 12 o'clock. It is disheartening when attempting quick chirps only to hear no sound or a different and the record is at 12.
This has forced me to do my practising with regular vinyl and not attempt any trick when I have SSL on the road ... at least not in front of a live crowd. This would make me suck more than I already do..
I tried it before and the sample shifted.. some folks who were studying me closely were like "who the hell is this rookie?" I just looked at them like a deer in the headlights mumbling to myself ...'it wasnt me'

True .. and these wear pretty quickly under battle conditions or at the beginning of the records due to cueing. Hence my other suggestion to have at lesst two tracks and record/crate select on each side.
I believe I am on SSL record 10. The earlier 2 or so are no good at all all round. They track very badly. The next 4 are bad on the 1st 1.5 minutes, the only thing I use these for is for selecting songs.

mmm i dont notice sticker drifting in absolute mode when juggling brand new CV02, but... you know, im totally a scratch rookie!
as nik said, try using the track offset feature to scratch/juggle over a different record groove, and let us know!

That would help some on wear and tear issues....... but once you move the offset, your physical record stickers become obsolete .. you just forced drift :)

Would the ability to set the offset to more than 1 minute help you? That would help some on wear and tear issues....... but once you move the offset, your physical record stickers become obsolete .. you just forced drift :)

The offset should be calibrated in complete turns, each notch rotates the vinyl once. The stickers should stay in exactly the same place.

Dont worry, the stickers wont be shifted, the offset will only offset to full revolutions.

i think i've only experienced drift in abs mode once or twice... it's pretty rare. i wouldn't rule out user error either.

ya lucky ... I practice sometimes for 12+ hrs on the same scratch and it happens a lot. This will not be a factor if you are just mixing or throwing in a scratch here and there. But during some spirited scratching you may be left wanting.

s42000, this is allready the case. If you move the offset slider one position you will see that the offset will be shifted one complete revolution. Give it a try.
