JBL Eon 515XT or JBL PRX612M

robin 9:15 AM - 26 January, 2011
I am looking to upgrade my speakers from the JBL Eon G2 to either the JBL Eon 515XT or the JBL PRX512M.

I see that both are the same price.

Has anyone heard both speakers and offer any suggestion on which one to get? Thanks
pdidy 9:33 AM - 26 January, 2011
This is simple get the JBL PRX612M.
DJ NoNseNse 9:48 AM - 26 January, 2011
Eon 515xt sounds good but for the money I think the prx might be a better buy. I haven't heard the prx yet though.
robin 5:03 PM - 26 January, 2011
Yeah I think I'm leaning toward the JBL PRX612M. I have 6 Eons and want to sell them so I can get 6 of the PRX 612MS.

6000 watts of power just would be better for my money than 3750 Watts of power.
latindj 5:29 PM - 26 January, 2011
prx hands down.
tehBEN 6:03 PM - 26 January, 2011
prx
robin 11:35 PM - 26 January, 2011
sounds like the PRX is the winner
lperez123 10:01 PM - 1 March, 2011
I'm on the same boat, which one did you end up getting. I heard the 515xt and the sound at GC and the sound was more wide, it covered more area than the prx612. The bass was deeper on the 515xt. but I'm afraid to get them because the previous model wasn't as good.
djticonyc 12:37 AM - 2 March, 2011
would ya say the jbl prx 612 is a big improvement over the mackie srm 450v2?
lperez123 12:47 AM - 2 March, 2011
I rented a pair of mackie 450 v1. They had more punch on the bass and prx612 didnt have as much punxh but sounded clearer. I heard every single instrument from the demo song. I think it's an improvement but to pay double the price it's kinda hard
djticonyc 12:48 AM - 2 March, 2011
I have the v2. Never actually heard the v1
robin 5:59 PM - 6 March, 2011
I have not purchased the speakers yet. I am still deciding if I should save up for the JBL PRX 615. I have not heard the Eon 515xt side by side with the 612 so thanks for letting me know what you experienced hearing them together.

I heard about the previous JBL Eon 515 and didn't like the reviews I was hearing. But if the new eons are that much better then maybe i might get those. I will keep you up on what I get and how it sounds.
Dj Mikey d 8:25 PM - 24 October, 2011
this is so simple.
i don't think they are the same price. and i know for a fact that they are not in the same category
The prx blow the eons out of the water
plus note that the prx is a wooden box and the eons are plastic. That is very important in relation to sound.
skinnyguy 1:47 AM - 25 October, 2011
prx series are supposed to be better than the eon series
skinnyguy 1:48 AM - 25 October, 2011
if it helps, i had a pair of the old eon g2's. the prx 612's are much better than them, even if the eon g2's were 15" speakers. 615's would def kill the eon g2.
robin 2:02 AM - 25 October, 2011
I have the G2's as well. Yeah I would get the PRX speakers but it's the money
lperez123 2:18 AM - 25 October, 2011
Now that I have the prx I wish I could of gotten the qsc
robin 5:11 AM - 25 October, 2011
Really? How much better do you feel the QSC K SERIES IS THAN THE PRX? Let's say the PRX 612's compared the K12's.
Papa Midnight 5:39 AM - 25 October, 2011
If you can afford the PRX's, get them. But I take nothing away from the EON515XT. Nothing.
Papa Midnight 5:40 AM - 25 October, 2011
Also, do not compare the EON515XT to the older EON's and even the EON515. They are not the same speaker. It's a whole different ball game. It's not even the same league, let alone the same sport.
robin 6:05 AM - 25 October, 2011
sorry, just to be clear. I haven't heard the eon515xt speakers but you're saying they are a lot better than the eon G2 and the eon 515 models?

Right on thanks.
Dj Nyce 10:59 PM - 29 October, 2011
just purchased some 515XT's and the are waaay better than the G2's. I am extremely happy with this purchase. i highly recommend them for small-medium venues. it may even work for some larger venues depending on the shape and if ur on a stage.
robin 6:40 AM - 2 November, 2011
Right on DJ Nyce. I have 6 JBL Eon G2's now and use them for small, medium and some larger venues. I've been happy with the eons but I'm hearing a lot of good feedback on the 515Xts. I plan on upgrading each Eon a pair at a time. I can't wait to get in my first pair after hearing all the great reviews. I already ordered them.

Thanks for the update.
Dj Ace 6:50 AM - 2 November, 2011
yeah the eon xt's or the business
rtm 11:27 PM - 13 November, 2011
Here in my place i got only 2 choices and they are of the same price. Pls help what should i get? Jbl eon 515xt or mackie srm450v2? I'm not after loudness, i after sound quality for church use. We got subwoofer already.
lvmez 12:46 AM - 14 November, 2011
eon's.
Dj Ace 3:23 AM - 14 November, 2011
just heard the prx 612 playing hip hop and they are sick! Loud and clear highs and the bass was nice for a 12inch. They are small and light...I am def getting a pair. The would easily handle small gigs with no sub woofer! I already have (2) jbl srx 722's, (2) 715's, and (4) 718s sub for larger gigs but these will work for small 100 to 150 people...they are sick!
Blackdevil77 4:28 AM - 14 November, 2011
I own the PRX615m's and they sound fantastic!!! Clean, Clear smooth response, and very good low's for a single 15" speaker. I'm assuming the 612's are much of the same with maybe less bass. All I know is, I love them!!! They get so loud it's unbelievable, and they remain crystal clear at those loud volumes
Blackdevil77 4:30 AM - 14 November, 2011
Quote:

Why is that? I auditioned both, and found the PRX to be the clearer sounding speaker, especially at high volumes. At lower volumes, they both sounded fantastic, the QSC having a more crisp, in your face type of sound, and the JBL having a warmer sound. But when cranked near the limit, the JBL stayed noticeably clearer.
Dj Ace 5:19 AM - 14 November, 2011
+1

I did the same thing...and drew the sam conclusion. At party volumes the JBL maintained clarity no matter how hard you push em!
Blackdevil77 5:35 AM - 14 November, 2011
Not to mention, the matching PRX618s-XLF sub is an absolute BEAST! I used to own a pair of QSC HPR181i's, which were replaced by the QSC KW181's. From what I have read, many people like the sound of the HPR's much more over the new KW sub. Only advantage of the KW sub over the HPR is the size and weight. The HPR sub sounded pretty good, but got a little sloppy at high volumes, I thought the KW sounded just as good, personally but I have to say, neither are a match for the 618s-XLF. This sub is just mean. It play much louder, goes much lower, and stays clean, clear and defined at SPL's that would shake the pillars of hell
DJ NoNseNse 7:56 AM - 14 November, 2011
I had a customer in my store that was set on on getting eons but after letting him hear the prx he walked out with those.
djbagz 10:19 PM - 16 November, 2011
i just got my jb515xt 2 weeks ago used them last weekend...they sound clear, and go harder then a mutha #$#@$%....

I got 2 speakers 2 stands and jbl soft case for 2 thousand AUD....love em...
elitesounds 3:59 AM - 22 November, 2011
I have owned the Qsc Kw series for about 2 years and love them. The Kw152's sound awesome!! Great low end and great clarity with the high end as well. I purchased 2 pair the KW181's to go with my 2 pair of 152's.... What a great match. All depends on your budget! I've heard these things next to the JBL series and these QSC's rock!!
latindj 6:06 AM - 22 November, 2011
^next to which jbl series...it does make a huge difference you know...
robin 7:59 AM - 22 November, 2011
So after starting this post almost a year ago I finally made a decision and got the JBL Eon 515 XT's. I had 6 of the Eon 15 G2 speakers and swapped them all out for the new XT's. I have to say they sound great, look nice and are worth the step up from the older EOn 15 G2's.

If you're still trying to decide between speakers the big things to consider are these.
1) how much can you afford to spend?
2) what kind of events are you doing and for how many people?
3) what kind of transportation do you have? Small car, truck, van?
If you're deciding between Eon's and Mackie SRM450 then get the eons. If you have a little more money get the PRX series. If you have the money but not much space in your car then get the QSC speakers.

I chose the eons 515xt because they are a little smaller than my old G2's, more powerful and I've always used JBL since day one.
Blackdevil77 11:41 AM - 22 November, 2011
Congrats on the new speakers, glad to hear you like them.

Just have to add, the PRX speakers take up far less space then the QSC KW's. At least the tops
Certified Quality Entertainment 2:28 PM - 22 November, 2011
I'm actually in the middle of trying to get rid of my passive rig to move to all passive. My thinking is to go with either the JBL PRX612 or the QSC K12. I would grab 1 sub for now so I was thinking of doing 2 K12s and 1 Ksub for now. What are your thoughts on the K12 vs PRX612?
Blackdevil77 2:35 PM - 22 November, 2011
I haven't heard the k12, my thinking is you can't go wrong either way. Only thing is the jbl has a wood enclosure, which usually makes for nicer sound.
lvmez 2:49 PM - 22 November, 2011
the prx's are great. very light and great bass. you can also get a better deal on jbl's than qsc's.
Blackdevil77 3:02 PM - 22 November, 2011
From hearing the two, I can honestly say I like everything about the prx's more so then the KW's. They're lighter, I think better looking, I think they sound better, especially at high volumes, and are cheaper. The only thing they have against them is their reputation of getting hot and experiencing thermal shutdowns. My prx's do get hot, except for one speaker for some reason, but I have never experienced a thermal shutdown. I think jbl fixed this problem with the newer prx's, which is why one of mine doesn't get hot at all, it must be from a newer batch, but either way never had a problem, I absolutely love them. Especially the XLF sub. That thing is a monster! Loud, deep, punchy, musical, I think as far as the subs go, the xlf is certainly the king when comparing the prx's to the kw's.
Certified Quality Entertainment 3:04 PM - 22 November, 2011
Yea, that's what I've heard. I'm kind of torn between the two. I have 2 JBL MRX512m now and I like them a lot but I just want to go the powered route. My MRX's dont' really have much low end AT ALL. That was the one thing i was kind of hoping is sometimes I do smaller parties and I don't want to bring a sub and i really can't do that with my MRX's. Not sure if that is the case with the PRX. I do know the K12s sound good by themselves and can work without a sub if needed.
robin 3:06 PM - 22 November, 2011
I agree. The qsc k series is great but you can get the prx series for less money and they sound just as good.
Blackdevil77 3:13 PM - 22 November, 2011
If you want great speakers for use without a sub, or with a sub, go for the PRX615m's. That's what I have with my 2 XLF's subs. The full system sounds insane, but for smaller gigs, the 615 have PLENTY of bass on their own! And they are lighter then the 12" QSC KW. Trust me, give the PRX615m's a try, I'm pretty confident you will like them. There were times I had just these playing and it sounded like there was a small sub playing! And they don't skimp out on mid range either, they sound great.
Certified Quality Entertainment 3:17 PM - 22 November, 2011
I'd like to stay with the 12" just for space saving wise in my truck. I may end up gettign rid of my truck soon and gettign something a little smaller so I want to make sure I can still fit everything easily which is why I want to stay with the 12"
Blackdevil77 3:19 PM - 22 November, 2011
Lol still check out the size of the 615 for yourself. Its smaller then the 12" kw as well as lighter. I can fit them in a chevy cobalt no problem.
Certified Quality Entertainment 3:22 PM - 22 November, 2011
smaller then the kw12 but what about the k12. They are two different speakers
I'm going to try and go to a local place near me tomorrow after work to see fi they have them there where I can demo.

I still need to get rid of my passive rig first though!! lol
Blackdevil77 3:25 PM - 22 November, 2011
They might be slightly bigger then the k12, but only slightly. Still, check them out to see if they are to big or okay for you. If they aren't to big for you, your definitely gonna love em!
Certified Quality Entertainment 3:28 PM - 22 November, 2011
I will look into it. Thanks! I've yet to hear the Ksub though. i'm curious as to how it sounds.
Blackdevil77 3:30 PM - 22 November, 2011
I've heard it. The bass is tight and punchy, but obviously not as robust as an 18" sub, you won't get that club sound out of it.
Carefree 2:57 PM - 19 January, 2012
Thanks for this thread guys, I am also in the market for some speakers (mostly used for karaoke). Main attributes for me is quality then loudness as the size/portability attribute comes last for me.
From the discussions above, you guys seem to rank the speakers in this order:
SRM450v2 > Eon 515XT > PRX612M > PRX615M > QSC K12
Is the above order correct as the Eon 515XT seems more expensive then the PRXs?
I started with an initial budget of $1-1.5K for a pair, however happy to invest more funds if its worth it (sounds like you guys are convincing to up the budget to PRX).
Also, if you can recommend me any stores in Australia (I am from Adelaide) and/or Australian online stores that sell them cheap.
I noticed djbagz purchased 2x jb515xt with x2 stands & jbl soft case for $2K from some where.
Thanks :D
Carefree 3:03 PM - 19 January, 2012
My mistake eons are cheaper than the prx.
Please suggest where to buy them cheap though, and if its worth the extra $$ to invest in the upper scale of the speakers for my needs.
Thanks
Blackdevil77 3:07 PM - 19 January, 2012
I haven't heard the eons mentioned, but I can say the PRX615m has a very smooth, natural clean sound to it, along with extremely impressive bass for a single 15" speaker as well as being able to crank! The K12 is a fantastic speaker but I'd still put the edge on the PRX615. I don't have any recent or in depth experience with the mackie's although they did sound good. Another option for incredible sound is the RCF ART312's. They sound great from what I hear and are very reasonably priced right now.
Carefree 2:16 PM - 10 February, 2012
Would you guys even consider the entry level mackie thumps th-15a?
I can pick up a pair of these locally for $1,200, alternatively a pair of srm450v2 for $1,700.

I had not yet obtain prices on the JBLs yet.
Certified Quality Entertainment 2:40 PM - 10 February, 2012
I think $1,200 of a pair of mackie thumps is very expensive. I'm sure you can get them for cheaper, or a better grade speaker for that price anyway.

Thanks guys i see them at a online store (or sydney) for $1000 a pair.
I just dont want to regret my purchase, and really have my heart on either prx615m or prx612m. What is the best prices on a pair of either of these do you think?
Thanks

you can get them for a great deal in nyc.

I've seen these speakers sold new for around $500 a pair. You could probably get 5 for that price if you can work down the price. But if you plan on doing gigs like weddings I would not get these.
