Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Karaoke Support in 1.8

JayDJ130 6:19 PM - 1 May, 2007
Since we're already going to have video, can karaoke (MP3+G) be supported as well please! I'm looking at getting Cue just for that feature. Don't think it would be too hard to write into the video plug-in.
DJ Michael Basic 6:09 AM - 4 May, 2007
I'd love this too. I'm sure we're in the minority though.
JayDJ130 6:24 AM - 4 May, 2007
ya, I'm sure we are, but I don't think it would be too difficult to write into the video plugin and it really would be a selling point for a LOT of mobiles. I know a lot of mobiles don't use serato because it lacks some features they like. I don't feel that way because I don't need a lot of extra bells and whistles in the SW itself. I like the simplicity of serato, but this would be REALLY nice to have. Either that or I have to buy Cue or something like that which I truely do NOT want to do.

Serato... Do you hear us?? (echo, echo, echo..)
nik39 2:10 PM - 4 May, 2007
Eek.

This has been suggested (and bashed) before.
Dj Rocky 3:09 PM - 4 May, 2007
Agree with Jay and Michael. That would help us to bring just a single set up. I'm willing to pay the upgrade if that what it takes. Come on serato staff, don't let Numark beat you on this one.
JayDJ130 3:17 PM - 4 May, 2007
nik-people can bash all they want. The fact is Karakoe is HUGE and can bring in a lot of revenue. Let's keep an open mind about all aspects of our business here. Help us out here Serato.
nik39 3:19 PM - 4 May, 2007
I just pointed out that this has been suggested before.

Feel free to start another 15 new threads. It makes more sense to add your support and suggestions for one feature into one thread.

But as said - feel free to start a new thread if you think it will help you ;)
Dj Rocky 3:24 PM - 4 May, 2007
And nik39 please, if you don't like this feature don't reject it either. I've seen your replies about this topic before, you don't like it FINE!!! but let the people who needs it request it, won't hurt you if it's added. Thank you
nik39 4:16 PM - 4 May, 2007
Stop crying. I just told that this suggestion has been bashed before. That's the truth, nothing more, nothing less. I did not tell anything about how I feel about it.
JayDJ130 4:21 PM - 4 May, 2007
great, Nik. constructive as always. I did a quick search, but I didn't find a whole thread about this topic, so I started my own. Maybe you should concentrate your time to something truely constructive and helf them redisgn the search feature on the forum to find things easier so we don't commit the 8th deadly sin of duplicating a thread!
nik39 5:41 PM - 4 May, 2007
lol. Commit as many sins you like. I was trying to help you... ;)
skinnyguy 8:44 PM - 4 May, 2007
i remember this being suggested before. and yes, nik was trying to be helpful because if i remember right, it was looked down upon. even i gave it a frown......

but....

i'm now on the other side of the fence because i'm now contemplating karaoke as an add-on to my services. so i think karaoke support would be great.

sure, it's a stab in the heart of my "true-dj" self, but seriously, i'm in the biz to make money too. recently, i've been getting increasing amounts of calls inquiring if i have karaoke. went to watch a friend do a karaoke gig just last night. that would've been an easy $1200 gig if i had it.

i'd gladly pay if it was an optional add-on like the upcoming video add-on.
JayDJ130 9:08 PM - 4 May, 2007
thank you. I'm with you on it stabbing at the true DJ in me, but money is money! Plus, karaoke gigs can be a lot of fun and you can get a regular gig on an off night to make some steady extra income. To all the haters... I'm not suggesting we start a turntablist karaoke crew, lol. This is all about $$
Dj Rocky 9:17 PM - 6 May, 2007
All software for Karaoke (that I know) it's for windows not for Mac. So we need to bring an extra laptop with windows if we are working Serato with a Mac.

I wonder how reliable Numark's Virtual Vinyl is Watchwww.youtube.com has many features we need!!!
dj disturbed 12:38 AM - 11 May, 2007
its the samething as Virtual DJ that has been out for years. I used VDJ a few years back for a few days... just never got the feel for it
Dj Rocky 12:57 AM - 11 May, 2007
To be honest, I would buy that would be just 'cause the karaoke feature. Rane/serato staff don't even tell us if cd+g would be added to the video plug in or not.
dj disturbed 1:17 AM - 11 May, 2007
but honestly do people realy still do Karaoke? i know around here a few years ago (like 6 years ago) it was the hot ish. But now.. no one shows up at the bars on karaoke nights except for a handfull of regulars (i had to listen to them one night b/c the pool team i play on has to play our match right infront of the stage they were doing it on. We had like 20 peeps there for the match..... and there were maybe 15 other peeps in the bar
dj disturbed 1:20 AM - 11 May, 2007
^^^ BTW im not dissing it.. i used to DJ KAraoke back in the day one night a week. But it died out around here b/c the idiots who run the Karaoke (im not calling them DJ's or KJ'd) dont know howto do it right... when we did it (at a bar at UNC) we had 300+ peeps show up... we would mix just like we were djing and have a non Karaoke song between each singer so that it pt the party going... the Idiots who do it around here now just put someone on stage.... then have dead air while they wait for the next person to get up on stage
Dj Rocky 1:35 AM - 11 May, 2007
[quotewhen we did it (at a bar at UNC) we had 300+ peeps show up... we would mix just like we were djing and have a non Karaoke song between each singer so that it pt the party going...
Thats the way I do it. Thats why I would like Rane/Serato staff to add it because I have to bring my regular cd players and a separate Cd+G player, it's a very small spot where I have to set up my equipment.
dj disturbed 1:39 AM - 11 May, 2007
you know..they make dj cd+g player just for karaoke that you can beatmatch with
Dj Rocky 2:05 AM - 11 May, 2007
Now I have the Numark kmx-02 and the Vocopro cdg9000pro but they are not as responsive neither accurate as a regular cd player.
JayDJ130 6:41 AM - 11 May, 2007
the point is that we love serato and don't want to use anything else unless absolutely neccisary. Karaoke is big all over especially with the help of american idol and the like. It couldn't be that hard to add it to the video plugin, so why not make it that much more appealing?
Dj Rocky 1:08 PM - 11 May, 2007
Are you going to get the full version of Virtual V?
ejayian 1:05 PM - 19 May, 2007
as a mobile dj, sooner or later i will also offer karaoke since video is the way to go, so serato might as well take advantage & keep my money instead of letting me buy some other program
skinnyguy 8:58 PM - 22 December, 2007
*ahem*
JayDJ130 11:07 PM - 22 December, 2007
Skinnyguy - Thanks for bringing this back to our attention. This is still something I'd be very interested in as an added feature!!

Some word from the Serato team now that video is about to be released would be nice!!!

*cough*
dj disturbed 9:14 PM - 23 December, 2007
well... convert the Karaoke songs into video's, get the SL57 and the video plug-in and boom... you got Karaoke support
skinnyguy 9:37 PM - 23 December, 2007
...or if they could just get ssl to read cdg and whatever other karaoke formats are used...what are they, mp3g or something? and the .zip files and....i dunno...

hm....then they'd need pitch n time to adjust key and keep tempo...

or at least a free, lesser quality version of it

i'd pay if this was a plug-in =)

or if pnt came with it? heheh
skinnyguy 9:38 PM - 23 December, 2007
is it possible to convert karaoke cdg to a vid format the ttm57 supports?

it'd still need pnt or some kinda key adjust
JayDJ130 10:52 PM - 23 December, 2007
You can convert MP3+G to video, but I don't want to spend all my time converting 8,000 files to movies, which will take up ungodly amounts of space.

Taking that much time to convert would be crazy! I haven't checked 1.8.1 yet if it does support MP3+G yet, does anyone know?
skinnyguy 7:41 PM - 27 May, 2008
i can wait for 1.9, if that's what it takes =) or vsl 1.1
DJ_X_Trodinaire 5:33 PM - 29 July, 2008
*looks around*
Mr Freeze 5:42 PM - 30 December, 2011
Hi everyone, has anything changed as far as Video-SL doing Karaoke?
nik39 9:20 PM - 30 December, 2011
Nope. Don't think it will happen anytime soon.
supadan 9:04 PM - 1 January, 2012
yes we need KARAOKE!!!!!
Mr Freeze 6:15 PM - 4 January, 2012
Can someone help me, what is a good software for karaoke using a Mac? besides Virtual DJ? i hope Rane gets on this, its really a good thing.
skinnyguy 8:52 PM - 4 January, 2012
kjams.

vdj is just weird on a mac....so i bust out my dell for vdj =P
skinnyguy 8:52 PM - 4 January, 2012
....and because vdj won't read serato playlists on mac...windows only =(
