"Click here to load 50 more messages" loads 25 from the top and 25 from the bottom.

Strange time to read this, I just loaded all messages in the CV Collectors thread and that thread is so long it just about crashed my browser.

Oh, I've never seen that... you're right. I always though somehow that only the next 50 from top are being loaded.


HAha, we were both checking the same thread. For me FF didn't crash it just slowed down and froze for like a minute or so.

I was just thinking the exact same thing (and for the exact same thread). Could we possibly get separate "load previous 50" (up) and "load next 50" (down) options?

How would that help?

I don't find the current layout intuitive.

If you click on "load 50 msgs" it will stay on top and will show the new loaded messages below - that's why I always thought it will load the next 50 posts from the top.

Maybe add some trickery:

<load 50 msgs>
<load all mgs>
<load 50 msgs>

Clicking on the 3rd link will move to the next 25 messages loaded from the bottom up.
Clicking on the 1st does what it does right now.

Yeah, that would make it smoother. I'm not sure how hard that is to do, or whether it's even possible to smoothly add content above your anchor while keeping your current anchor on the page.
