After years of mixing from my home makin cd's and whatnot and im talking 10 years of confinded underground mixes. I would like to get out and spin in clubs however I cannot find any Info on what license I need for playing music " broadcasting Live " or " public Performance " ? Im in Northern Colorado USA. you dont need a liscense.... just make sure the club/venue you lay in has paid their ASCAP and BMI fees (but even if they didnt it wont fall on you.. the venue will get in trouble)

Yeah, that digital dj license crap is only in the UK, not in the USA.

Does that apply to podcasts or internet radio?

if you run the inyernet radio station there is some fees you are supposed to pay.... but that only if you run it... if you are djing for one then no

so basically what Im getting here. is if I want to run my own show, say I start a club or start a radio station. I need liscenses but if im only djing for some kind of promoter they are responsible for the content in there club / radio station. makes sence to me. I guess i would qualify my own podcast as something i would need a license for then. Excelent. this is exactly the information i am looking for. thank you

pod cast... technicaly you would have to get permission on each track you use in it just like in a mixtape.... but not many people realy do b/c that get very expencive (b/c you have to pay a fee for each song you use todo it "legaly") b ut 90% of te mixtape artist dont do that..
the promoter does not pay the fees for the club/radio stuff.. the owner of the venue/ radio station has to

no.. that does not mean no podcast...... they wont give a crap as long as its not millions of copies to everyone in the word and/or you make a profit off of it. its not legal either way.. but they tend to overlook it b/c you are helping to promote the music

I see, well my thought was to use podcast to get my demo mixes out there for club owners, promoters, and whatever else needs a DJ. just seams like a faster and easier way to get out into the world. I just wouldnt want to get nailed by some record company straight out of the gates for something i didnt want to do illegally in the first place.

well.. that fine but call them what they are... Demos or mixtapes.. podcast is a marketing term from apple.. all a podcast is is an audio recording.. most of the time at low quality for faster internet distro.
