New Macbook or $600 used Macbook Pro

skratchnerd 6:12 AM - 13 March, 2007
I can't decide weather I should go for a new Macbook for $1200.00 or a used $600 Macbook PRO. The Macbook pro has been used for about a year at a Mortage office and has been mainly used for paper/word document use. Thing I'm worried about is how MUCH its been used in that year. I don't want to buy it and then have it die on me withing 9 months you know? I can't afford a $2000 dollar macbook pro right now either...

Should i just settle for the 13in screen regular Macbook? They both work almost equally as fast i think. I mainly plan on using it for music/using serato/editing. I'm leaning towards the NEW Macbook, not used. The bigger screen is sexy to me though... dammit.

What do u guys think?

Get the Pro.

Get the Pro if you really like the bigger screen and u can't beat the price point. I'll buy it if you won't and i have a Sony Vaio centrino duo with 2 gigs of ram, a 13" screen and it weighs 4lbs. I love how little it is and the power it ahs but i want a mac book too to make my dedicated serato laptop. $600 is a steal. Whats the specs?

Skratch, I still have a PowerBook from 1998 that works without a hitch. If you're confident that the people haven't abused the Pro, it should be fine for you. $600 is an awfully good deal for an MBP.

The thing I'd be most worried about is if the Mac is depressed after having to do grunt work in a mortgage office for a year instead of exciting stuff Macs usually get to do. ;-)

Your real dilemma is whether or not you should spend $600 more for the Core2Duo chip. For what you describe as your intended uses, though, I don't think you'd see a huge performance difference.

I'd probably go with the Pro.

One possibility... if the Pro is still less than a year old, you can buy an AppleCare policy for $350 and it will be completely covered for another 2 years. The only parts I see as being even remotely likely to have a problem would be the screen backlight (unlikely) and the hard drive.

Same question, where did you find a Mac Book Pro for $600? Got any other deals you could possibly throw my way? =]

The pro is probably a core duo,.. not a core II duo.

had one with just core duo and now have the one with core II duo....can't tell the difference. Just use them both for serato only though.

you wouldn't be able to tell the speed difference between core duo and core II duo if all you use is serato. hell, i can't tell the difference between my celeron 1Ghz and my core II duo when using serato only. the celeron works fine, the core II duo works fine.
