Determining BPM

DJ-A 5:01 PM - 8 March, 2007
Some songs go high and some go low. (example 60 vs. 120)
How does that get determined? I like to mix by BMP, so when I sort things by BPM I find that songs can be fast and in the 60 BPM range, or slow and in the 120 range...

Damn, I've come across songs that sound fast from the 80-95 BPM range, but 60????? What are you spinning that's 60 BPM?

something that's really 120? LOL

its up to you whether you wanna label em in their double time or half time. just know your songs, a 60 vs 120 can be synchronized but you wouldn't wanna drop a slow love song right in the middle of a high energy set

EXACTLY!! thats why its annoying... so basically i have to go through them again and double the ones i want to be fast, or cut it in half if i want it slower.

how does serato determine if it should be 60 or 120? seemed kind of random to me

Serato looks for at many factors in determining the BPM of a song. If your name is DJ-A, Serato knows this and will tag everything backwards just to throw you off so you will learn something.

Yeah, didn't you see the "Turn of DJ-A BPM Algorithm" switch on the Setup screen?

That might be an interesting feature suggestion... When in Browse mode, have a "Display BPM Multiples" that would show tracks with 1/2 or 2x the currently selected BPM.

Alternatively, I wonder if the BPM algorithm has a confidence value... it could flag those that it knows is one or the other, but could be either. (As opposed to just not putting in anything when it can't figure it out).

I try to fix the tags as I find them, but with 20,000+ tracks, that will take me a little while. =-)

I think it has to do with both the bpm scanner ya use and the track itself.. I know my drum&bass stuff usually ranges from 175-190, but the scanner reads em as 80-95.... depends!
