Hyphy is LA?

djivanlopez.com 11:37 AM - 8 March, 2007
I'm working on the track list that the clients provided for this weekend's Sweet 16 event and I was surprised on how much Bay area music is being requested. Out of 40 songs, about 15 of them are Hyphy remixes or Hyphy something. E-40 and Too Short have always been accepted in LA, but Mac Dre?

I'm definitely not hatin' or whatnot, but more like truly surprised on how much Hyphy music is being requested by a soon to be 16 year, white, middle class girl and her private school friends. Call me naive, but has the Bay Area invaded LA? Just wondering, not concerned, more like curious what other Southern Cali DJ's are being requested.

The Bay is a mere 300-something miles from LA. Hyphy has taken over the world, with the good and the bad. Dont be surprised that middle class white suburban kids listen to ghetto music. They are the ones who buy it the most.

Hip Hop / Rap wouldn't be what it is today if white suburban America hadn't started listening to it. "Pop" is simply short for "Popular."

Of course, that's probably also why so much of it sucks right now. It's been Britneyized. Only with guns, hoes, and grills.

Since I am white and the first 12" single I ever bought (while in Jr. High) was Rapper's Delight, and the second 12" single I bought was "Hard Times" by Run-DMC, you can all blame me for the state everything's in today.

Sorry. Sorry, everyone!
