Im trying to record some of my vinyl tracks into Serato, Im going to list some methods, and which one would yeild the highest clearest option.
1. Record through Serato box where the mic imput would be recorded (I know its only used for sampling)
2. Record from Serato box output to RCA to Minijack into program (cool edit pro, garage band, etc)
3. Record from the mixer aux out to RCA to minijack/RCA into (cool edit pro, garage band, Ikey, etc.)
4. Option I have not thought off.
I have rca to mini jack cords, and 2nd computers to record into, does anyone have the best audio idea?

Record the vinyl directly in to SSL. This feature is free and of very high quality. READ THE MANUAL.

there is a volume knob there in the recording section..... get the pseudo LEDs touching red, the recording will be just fine. If it's not, I can only think you're running all your other tunes really hot through your mixer.

Well, I tried recording out from my mixer to Cool edit pro, I tried a 3rd party recording program for mac through the minijack, I tried using the Gemini Ikey to an Ipod, Tried recording aux out to garage band, and also through serato. Tried alot of different things, and I just want to make sure Im getting the best audio I can.

um ya.. What sound card are you using? Serato is a $500 dollar one or the TTM57. I do not understand the reason not to use it? Seriously -Why not use it?
It records a perfectly good AIFF file. If you need to edit it- there are plenty of tools to do so. I use Adobe Audition if the need arises. I also do have a Sound Blaster Audigy that I used to use, but with it being so much easier to set and forget within Serato though, why bother with extra cables to introduce more noise.

I've done a lot of recording (using an audiophile needle) w/ the serato box and have been pretty unimpressed with the results. I would put the range from bad to average, depending on the recording.
The moderators have confirmed that you aren't going to get quality recordings using it.

#1 use an audiophile needle (shure makes a cheap one that's actually pretty good)
#2 get yourself a decent soundcard (usb or firewire if you have a laptop)
#2 bypass your mixer and use a dedicated phono pre-amp

yikes.... if you're an audiophile and you play on thousands of watts + booze... You're talking oil and water to me man. Nobody in the audience can have that good of an ear. If you're looking for a personal record in audio cleanliness, be my guest. I'd rather you than some P2P schmuck with 128k mp3's blaring.
