Video Jocks / Sorting your Videos and mp3 crates??

Bare with me here for a minute: I've been spinning video now for a while now even before virtual dj and scratch live. Half my gigs are video jobs and the other half just audio. My video library is getting huge and it seems like more and more each day video remixes are getting hotter and almost better then some mp3 remixs so I find my self playing the audio tracks of some mp4s. I ussually keep my video crates seperate from my audio crates but it is starting to get hectic. The question is do you guys just mix up the mp3's and mp4s together in crates or keep them seperate. Like I'll have a 2010 hip hop video crate and one that is just mp3. I'm thinking of just putting the 2 together so I don't have a billion crates in my scratch live software. I'm getting mixed feelings because when I do video jobs I sometime just liek to concentrate on my video crates but what happens is that I start to neglect or forget about hot songs or remixes in the mp3 crates.
Thanks for any input you guys may have!

I use an external HD primarily for video and all mp3 on the internal so when playing audio only gigs, I don't plug in the external hence reduced crates/tracks.
What I do however, is create an mp3 version of the hot video remixes that way I can use them when playing audio only...eventually if time permits, I'll start making video edits of the mp3 remixes I REALLY like.

i think having the option to keep them seperate will help u in the long run wen doin video gigs
my work around tht i just thought of would be
to:
associate a mp3 file with
1. a video of the same artist
2. a tv/ show movie clip in which it was heard
3. logos
4. ambient
5. have a seperate link to the screens n do live feed from the club/ party

my external has 2 major folders, an mp3 and a video folder. when i open any of the two, inside will be individual folders of generas, years, etc.
In the mp3 folder I'll have a prime cut or promo only 2010, club 2010, oldies, disco and so on.
same wth video folder. when I open SL then i pretty much have a similar situation. I have to monster crates (mp3 & video) and in those crates there are sub crates with the break down.

You might be sorry at a video gig if you did that.
I do keep things separated, but only so I have crates (actually I use iTunes and Smart Playlists, which makes this much easier) that are video-only. I have other more generalized playlists with both videos and audio-only files.
Since any video file can be used as a music-only track when you're not actually playing video, and I'm running everything off my internal drive anyway, it doesn't make sense for me to have "music only" playlists.

I do both, i have a crate with all of my videos, a crate with all of my audio, each video pool has its own crate, each audio pool has its own crate, then i have crates sorted by BPM that contain both. I also use ME for video mixing though and it has th ability to randomly select a visual if there is no video file assoisiated with it so i dont have to worry about it much anyway

I use codes and my entire music and video library is in a 2TB external drive. No issues whatsoever. I love it this way. I can play videos or mp3's of songs that don't have a video yet and not have to worry about anything.
Using codes helps a lot.
No playlists.

Btw, it's best to have your mp3 and video library together because you can always play an instrumental of a song (without a video) and run whatever graphics you want on top of it. I usually do this to speak on the mic and run my logo or my request number so people can text me, add me to my facebook. Basically promote whatever I want.

because of the sheer number of my audio library and the size of mp4's i choose to keep my video separate on its own HD. audio library is on the internal.
when i plug in the ext hd my vids and vid crates are available. i do not mix and match mp3s and mp4s. i do however make mad use of smartcrates, itunes smart playlists and i do keep smart crates for every video pool so i can quickly jump back and fourth.
i would keep all on an external, but 2.5" drives tap out at 1Tb. I'm not a fan of the size of 3.5" size.

I still don't understand the reasoning behind this. It's not like either one wouldn't work with the other. For instance, if you don't play instrumentals or have a need for acapellas in your sets or whatever, you could have 1 video library and play it at both gigs; those that require video and those that don't.
With video, you can still play any mp3 with your logo, your own graphics or whatever.
The reasons for me behind having everything in one drive are: 1) Easy to transport. I can do any gig with anyone's computer. 2) I can back up in a heartbeat. 1 external to another external. I have 3 identical backups. 2 in house, 1 off site. If anything happens to one drive, i plug in another drive and I'm ready to go without delay.

I agree with Sixxx.
You wanna keep your music and videos on an external drive. I use a WD 1tb, it's usb powered. The lacie 1tb hard drives a drope also, with firewire 800/400 powered. if the power ever goes down at a gig my laptop and hard drive don't go down, there fore the software dosent need to be fired up again. Also if your laptop crashes say goodbye to your music library. On my external I have two major fdolders, one for videos and one for mp3's. Then I sort them out according to genre, remix or years. It's pretty well organized. I know some guys just download and drop all their music into one folder then sort it out in serato. I'm a liitle more annal I guess.
As far as managing my music and videos within serato. You guys gave some things to think about. I think I will keep most of the folders seperate but I will combine my music and video crates as I build my banging mix sets, so this way I don't negllect any of the hot shit I have on video or audio.
