i knew id hit RIGHT as soon as my finger pressed the shift key...
track goes onto the wrong deck.. with barely any time reamaining..
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
anyone else done this?
i had my mac positioned in the smallest place to the left of my coffin case and could barely reach the keys. i was using my new 57sl at the time but im not fully use to it yet so i was just using the mac for last night until i get to know the mixer better.
didnt seem to be that bad of a mess.. but i went from notch - nuttin no go so into murder he wrote in a split second.. then i just reloaded it on the other deck and made a point of cutting that shit in nicely haha

Make sure you keep the play lock feature on. I forget what it is actually called. Its in the setup menu..called play lock, or deck lock..something like that...it prevents that from happening. I suggest locking that for next time

I hate it when this happens while practicing because it makes me scared it's going to happen live (not yet, knock wood). I think Ctrl-Z (i.e. undo) would work in this situation too if I'm not mistaken... (although the play lock feature mentioned above prevents it in the first place)

How many people out there use the "lock playing deck" function?
I always use it now (had a few bad experiences when i first started using serato), but it does make transitioning slightly slower (because the deck has to completely stop before you can load a new track).
I'd like to not use it just to shave a bit more time off of some of the faster tranitions I do, but i'm still a bit wary about unchecking this feature b/c of what situtations like Play-so is describing above.
Do most people use this feature?

The only time I don't have the decks locked is when I'm just using a single deck to go through and set track cues.

I tried it when they first added the feature, but didn't like the extra time it took to load a track. Not a big deal really, but enough that I don't use it.

I used it all the time because, ah, well, I take too many smoke breaks. My boy doesn't use it all because he always uses instant doubles to swap to his strong hand. It's really a matter of preference.

I've done it Urban... packed club.. primetime.. buzz was kicking strong.. 600-700 people.. The 3 or 4 other DJ's I usually spin with have done it too.. It happens. You get red.. and then you KEEP ROCKIN!!!

I use it all the time, since I've made several loading mistakes because I was either distracted (by someone requesting something) or I had to check/pre-listen to a song that was being requested. I just lose track of things when someone interrupts me when I'm in my "zone". So, locking the decks has worked well for me.

hmmm...i think i'm going to keep using it for now, but start trying to keep a mental record of everytime i would have accidentally loaded a track to the playing deck (had it not been for the locked deck).
I'll give that a few weeks and then maybe switch over to not having it locked if i seem to be doing ok.

This happened to me a couple of times when I first started mixing Serato with alcohol. Good times...
Before the locked decked option, I would just get in the habit of stopping the table that wasn't playing. That way, I'd just look at the interface and load the song onto the side that my drunken ass interpreted as "not moving". This worked best for when quick mixing wasn't really necessary and I would just play mosts songs out to the 2nd verse.
And there's always Ctrl + Z and playing if off like you wanted to tease the crowd with a little sample lol

no different than picking up the wrong needle... Learn to look at the mixer and place the new track to the correct deck. I will not allow Serato to save me from doing sumtin stoopid.

i somehow got into a habit of keeping my hand on the crossfader & holding it to the side thats playing while i load the song on the other side, it kinda gives me a mental note of which side NOT to load,i noticed myself doing it at a gig a few months after i got serato, and it stuck . . . now if i could devlop a habit to remember to flick my transform switch when i go back & forth between ssl & regular vinyl

Always lock the playing decks. I screwed myself numerous times before the feature was added.

THAT seems to happen a lot to me...more than I'd like to admit =P although it happens less as I spend more time with the software.
