I go camping about once a year. If you have the basic gear, it's a relatively cheap way to get away from city life and also it's relatively easy to do weekend trips. It's a great way to meet and hang out with new friends. I'm into hiking, being outdoors, swimming, boating, BBQing.
I hate being in Los Angeles all the time and LA people annoying me, so camping is a great way to get away.

This is what camping is all about. Forget the city noise (if you go out way in the woods or the mountains). Clean air, no technology (besides GPS if you're hiking). And, everyone seems to be friendly because they're more relaxed.

I just went to Kern River and it's a dope spot. What I liked about the place is being able camp anywhere you like, the water is fresh and very clear and the running whatever has more than enough current flow to hop on a raft/tube or any other floating device to take you down the whole river. It's a adrenaline rush!
I agree about being out there were you are clear from all the chaos back in civilization. It's very relaxing and peaceful.
Also, the drinking and BBQ'ing and chilling with the fam is priceless.

After 4 years in the USMC, the only camping I do is in a motor home. But not my own, and only for very short periods of time.

I've camped here in LA (well up in the mountains)and it suck compared to when I've gone camping when I lived in Washington state. F'ing love the forest but unfortunately all that was when I was a kid.Went camping every summer and haven't been camping since I was at least 16. that was 15 years ago so Im do for a camping trip. I told my nephews, I would take them sometime but havn't yet

Camping in LA is HORRIBLE. Actually anywhere in southern ca is horrible. I don't know about you, but when I go camping, I don't want to see ghetto hoodrats and dirty ass campsites, tagging on rocks (wtf?), and litter everywhere. Also I prefer a campsite that's far off the road, one where you have to hike to get to. Ghetto people are usually too fat and lazy and lack the equipment to make it that far into the wilderness.
The general rule is: The farther away from this LA shit hole, THE BETTER TIME I WILL HAVE (nm)

Went camping for a week 2 weeks ago up at Lake San Antonio, about 4 hours north of LA.
That lake is empty during the week, your practically have the lake to yourself. My parents RV is only 3 years old so I wasn't exactly roughing it. But a week at the lake wakeboarding, jet-ski'ing, drinking was a blast, we do it every year but next year we're gonna try a new lake since we've came here 4 years straight.

That sandwich looks dope! I actually started a different topic on FB about camping foods...what are your guys favorites?
Usually just Beer, Burgers and Brats for me. But this time i am gonna try some new things. a hobo stew meal looks fun (or foil dinner). I saw a banana boat and an orange cupcake both cooked in the fire that sounded good too.

Here's some pictures of Kern River. If you go all the way up where the river starts you'll find nice camping sites (no paying sites) where you can pull off the road and set camp and it's less congested with "ghettoness" lol

yup, up here in WA camping is great!
But there is only a few weeks out of the year you won't get rained on...
We used to throw these huge parties every summer on 12 acres bordering the National Park/Forest. (Bands,DJ's,wet T-shirt contests, kegs in the creek, general debauchery, etc.)
