what to play...???

DJ-ing at a bar tonight... every other night out of the week they have some type of band. In the past i have only done bars that were "clubs" and had people that were there to dance. i've also dont classy stuff where some company wanted a dj for hip music to be played in the back ground.
i've never done a bar that was like this. and i dont know what to play. when i asked what the crowd was like, the manager said just play whatever...

any ideas what type of whatever may be helpful? (i'm guessing they're not looking for a lot of hip-hop)

sublime/bob marley/classic rock/ramones/some 80's rock/punk/indie rock. etc. Sounds like a rock bar, ive dj'd one of these before thats what i would play.

Look at the crowd and see whats up. If people kindly ask for requests, see if you can fulfill em. Other than that, just grab a bunch of music of all styles and figure it out... Hard to be a DJ and not have some range as to what people like.
