So I have been messing around with different output options from my MBP. DVI looks the best then VGA of course. I am wondering if anyone has tried any of the DVI to Cat5 or VGA to Cat5 adapters. I want to have a few different cable length options and Cat5 cable is pretty inexpensive in comparison to buying different legths of DVI to DVI or VGA to VGA cables.

We use baluns at the spots I spin at.
s-video baluns to cat-5 to s-video balun to video splitter, split to two projectors and a plasma.
Another spot as a cat 5 to vga balun and i tried making my own and it didn't work. Don't feel like shelling out $100 + for a pair of vga baluns

No, but s-video cables are cheaper than vga (not using baluns) and I believe can carry the signal longer than the vga.
I'm not the one who set it up, so i have no clue.

to me, this discussion isn't relevant right now only because music videos aren't made available to DJs in higher resolutions. Videos over s-video versus VGA shot in the normal 720x576 pixel standard def will look pretty dang similar.
If you're also displaying overlay images, slideshows, etc. then of course make the jump to like 1280x1024 and knock out that crisp image but it won't help your music videos much. just other content

The difference between S-Video and VGA is pretty noticeable. Especially if your coming from a converter of any kind. Actually, even from the older macbook pros with internal conversion. The VGA was noticeable cleaner.
VGA baluns are also weird and finicky, some work going one way, but than needs to go the other way depending on the situation. (Which is why it is important to try out all your combos before you go out.) The nice thing about S-Video baluns are they are a lot cheaper than VGA and easier to split.
I have found that VGA baluns work best when used after the signal has been split, not to the splitter.
