Thanks,
I'm not looking for iPads to replace the turntables. I was referring to an iPad for the VSL or Mix Emergency controls.

Eloy's template is OSC, so you will need OSCulator for that.
If you're starting your own, the midi bridge is a bit more straightforward to use, but OSC is a bit more powerful.

Nah, with an ad-hoc network that's all you get. The wifi card can only handle one network at once.

Code:E has posted one for Touch OSC to the DJTechTools mappings site, it looks pretty good.
Best thing to do is get hold of as many templates for different things as you can, then lift elements and ideas from them to make your own.
Everyone sets up ME in their own way, and you'll find it takes a while to get your layout exactly right.
I've been using Lemur for 4 weeks now, and my layout looks completely different today than it did a month ago. And it will probably look totally different again next month.

I love it. TouchOSC does a lot of the same things for less money, but the scripting and stuff in Lemur has massive potential once you get your head around it.
Also, recently Lemur has got more in the way of updates than TouchOSC; Hexler's forum is a ghost town and they haven't updated the app since March.
I think at this point Lemur is worth the extra money from a support perspective alone.

cool, becuase im on the fence of moving on from my x1 to control Mix Emergency effects and such on an Ipad Mini.
I love the x1, but to have a 62, dicers & x-1 is a bit much... theres really only 1 function Id
keep the x1 for, and thats a "load to preapre" function. (cause the 62 dont have one...BOOO!)
I even considered x1 only (no dicers or Ipad). (so i can control the ME and secondary SSL functions that im not a fan of on the 62 Ie, no auto loop via pad, only scroll, same with loop rolls)
but im trying to streamline my rig.
Im def interested in seeing some Lemur!

Alright guys, as promised, I made a little video about my Lemur setup.
Watchvimeo.com
Excuse the rough-and-ready improvised video!
A couple of notes:
I didn't perhaps make it clear that the filter fader returning to zero is down to Lemur's physics engine; and that's an area I'm still working on ideas for.
Breaking up a rotary/dropdown/fader to individual step buttons, I didn't explain very well, but I worked it out thanks to Ben Jammin's post here:
www.inklen.com
Serato's midi mapping doesn't like it when you try to assign such buttons directly, so what you'll need to do is make a dummy rotary with the right CC, map that, then your buttons will work.
Hope some of you find the video interesting.

Keep in mind that I'm quite new to this Lemur stuff, in the grand scheme of things my template barely scratches the surface.
There are people on the Lemur forum doing things with scripting that make my head spin...
For those of you contemplating the iPad Mini... Think carefully.
I waited for its announcement before buying my 'DJ' iPad, and eventually plumped for a refurb iPad 2 for 10 bucks less than a Mini.
The form factor of the Mini is LUSH, I adore it. For most usage, it's a no-brainer.
But I knew my main use of this pad would be for Lemur, and I wanted to have big controls, no 'easy to miss' targets.
On the iPad Mini, you will simply get less controls on each page for the same physical button size.
So you should definitely think about how you want to lay out your controls and pages before you buy new hardware.
The Lemur editor is free, so you can make dummy layouts with that, or you can do what I did and start with pen & paper!
LOL anytime mate.

You can change the size of the buttons to whatever you like.
For a bit of fun, I had one page for a while which had nothing but a giant red 'airhorn' button on it.
But let's say a comfortable button size for your fingers is half-an-inch square. When you create a layout for the mini, you'll fit less of those on a 7.9" screen than on a 10" screen.
So just something to consider.

another reason why lemur kills touchosc is that when editing in the lemur editor, the changes are reflected on the ipad immediately.
with touchosc you have to click sync on the editor and navigate to like 4 pages on the ipad to update the layout.

tabbed containers: you can get around lemur's alphabetizing interfaces (main tabs) by using tabbed containers. tabbed containers live inside interfaces and can be re-ordered.

lol. the midi targets are what lemur maps to external software. lemur has 8 midi targets. each one can be used on the same or different software.
for example midi target 0 can be exclusive to serato, midi target 1 mixemergency and midi target 3 ableton.
by setting the midi target at the project or interface level you can change what this target is globally without having to click on each individual object.
so for example you could change the target of 100 objects all at once.

i was just curious what everyone is doing for connectivity and experiences with that?
I wasnt sure if you could still create a 2ndary private network (because the main network is being used on the Twitter feed)
or should you just hop on that network (any issues?)
I also know some people have used Bluetooth.
and theres also an app where you can use your USB cable and select the ipad as a device
(not sure if it needs to be jailbroken or anything, not that Id need that sort of connectivity, im not doing anything music that requires such immediate latency)

It's... Complicated. ;-)
If you create an ad-hoc wireless network for Lemur you're SOL with your Twitter feed unless you can hook into the Internet via a network cable.
I've never had much luck with ad-hoc, so I carry a small wireless N router and create my own network that way. My MBP connects to it via Ethernet and the iPad wirelessly. I find that latency is acceptable and the connection is totally stable.
In theory you could then connect to the club's wifi and still get Internet for your twitter feed by sharing the Internet with other devices on the network... Making the mac think it is the hub.
I say in theory because I haven't spent any time trying to make that work yet.
I like my Ipad to be mobile, so wireless is the only option for me. But if you want to go wired there are options.
Firstly, I've read somewhere about a way that you can jailbreak and then use the CCK to send midi directly. You'd need a weird USB cable though I think.
There are 'pro' solutions like the iConnectMidi, but that's like, 200 bucks.
Then I was just reading about the cheap option... Get 2 USB to midi interfaces. Like the Roland UM-One, but they can be eBay cheapies. Nothing flash.
One USB goes in the CCK. You then get a female > female midi adaptor, and connect the midi out of one to the midi in of the other. Then connect the USB of the second interface to your computer.
That whole setup (apart from the CCK) can be had for about 20 bucks, and latency will be TINY.

Just re-read that... Shouldn't write long posts at 4am.
To clarify:
When connecting with Lemur via a network cable to a router; you should be able to ALSO turn on your computer's wifi, and connect to another network for Internet.
You make it happen by telling the mac to share the wifi Internet with the Ethernet network.
That's the 'in theory' part. Hope that's clearer.

I know you & Nyce both use ad-hoc without issue.
I've just always found it a bit flakey, like if I lock my iOS device it struggles to reconnect, and the range is never great.
It just depends on your usage I guess. If you are leaving the device unlocked and in the same place all night it is fine I'm sure.

i've used ad-hoc, verizon mifi and the club's wifi.
if you need internet the simplest setup would be to use the club's wireless, but of course performance will vary.
when i used the verizon mifi, performance was on par with the ad-hoc.
i think the best option is to use your own wireless router. if you need internet you could configure it as a wireless bridge. i may do this in the future.

Good to know. That might be the ipads fault. What iPad are you using? Anyone else notice how shitty the range is on an ipad compared to an MBP.
I do want a wireless router for my "setup case" with enough wired ports so i can use it as a hub for CDJ's. I am a stage tech quite often and paret of my fee is me bringing all the gear need for connecting DJ gear properly

Just to let you guys know, I just 'simulated' using a pair of USB>Midi adaptors by hooking the one I have into the midi IN port on my PadKontrol.
It works great, no mucking about. SUPER low latency (not that I find latency an issue with my wireless setup).
Having the CCK and a USB cable sticking out the side of the iPad doesn't look terribly pretty, for sure. And I want mobility so it's not for me.
But it's definitely a workable option if you need a hardwired solution.

So, setting everything up at home on my personal network via Wi-Fi worked like a charm no glitches no latency beautiful. I get into work and I figured that using their public Wi-Fi probably wouldn't work because of firewalls and things like that... So I created a network and tries to go the ad-hoc route. What a nightmare it has been. Apparently something in the iOS six update changed the way that the networks get their information. So now you have to go in and create a static network and match up IP's, and Gateway info. Moreover, for whatever reason when I try to use this method I am getting no MIDI signals anywhere. And then I looked at the Daemon And there's no devices. So in essence, I can connect my iPad to the lemur editing suite and sync them up and edit them. But I cannot get them to create any MIDI signals to go out to mix emergency, and Cerrado. I'm reading more and more on the liine forums, And apparently the update that came out recently, with the in app additur and all that jazz, has a fix for this. But apparently it just doesn't seem to work for me. My last effort to try to get this to work in the AED – HOC method, which is something I will not use too much, because I will be on Wi-Fi. Is to go into the Daemon and add every midi channel individually. There's one person on the forum for line that says that works when using the AD – HOC connection

Where is free and clear Wi-Fi, the 4 or 5 places that I've engaged it has been flawless. But like I said when I tried to do the a ad-HOC method of creating a network I got no love. It only allowed me to connect the iPad To the lemur control editor. But for whatever reason it wouldn't allow anything to be transposed between the two devices With any kind of MIDI information. The DA DMO and was showing nothing, and in the settings on the iPad it wasn't showing my computer as this evening. Apparently it is a known issue. I'm not sure which version you might have gotten, but I think I have 4.01 which has the in app editor which is amazing. Just tonight I was changing things on the fly and it took me seconds to do excellent stuff

Have you updated to iOS 6.02 Josh?
Apparently that fixes some wifi issues with the Mini. You have to update through iTunes cos OTA not working or something?

the Ipad is ios6.0.2 (the newest)
and the MBP is Snow Leopard 10.6.8
all over the Liine forums this ad-hoc + ios602 is a known issue.
there are a few places where it says that lemur 3.2.2 fixes this... but im not having such luck
(and im not alone as you can see in that forum)
the work around I have for now is to use the hotspot on my Iphone.
and tether the MBP and Ipad to that
anyone interested heres my help thread on the Liine forum

Its another cost to you but you could buy and carry an airport express with you.
Kinda sucks to think that such a power app that cost so much still doesn't work as good as the $4 app competitor.

I think the app itself is great, but adjusting to this iOS change with the way ips /gateways work on the iPads is apparently causing a bit of a hiccup. Once this gets ironed out I'm sure it will be fine.
I'm really looking forward to Live Control 2 as well

Well it wasn't easy, and to be completely honest I'm surprised that this solution was not listed on the liine forum. Up until now they had a solution saying that the subnet mask Gateway needed to be 255.255.255.0 OR 255.255.0.0 And you had to use a static IP to go over a private network.
Well after hours and hours of reading posts on that forum and in the Apple community help forums I found no answer.
But then, after more attempts and switching through the different types of connection styles through a private network I noticed that the new gateway on iOS6 is actually 255.0.0.0
This is mentioned NO WHERE!
Not on any tech, or geek sites, nothin.
So now, it's working like a charm on all connectivity types

Nice!
I got my DJing iPad 2 as a refurb, and I've left it with the iOS 5 that came loaded; I saw lots of problems first arise with Lemur and iOS 6, but they fixed those in the last Lemur update.
Guess 6.02 brought new problems along too!
I have to reiterate, the ongoing updates are a big part of what makes Lemur worth the extra money over TouchOSC for me.
Hexler just seem to have abandoned their products. I'm a big fan of their TouchViz app, but that hasn't been updated since May either.

Lemur is pretty damned awesome.
I just wish wireless computer-iPad connectivity was a bit more solid...especially when first setting up. (Once established, it seems solid for hours at a time). May just give up on that and do a wired MIDI interface.

Hey guys, found an interesting tip in the comments on DJTT's Lemur article.
Now there's a jailbreak for iOS 6.1, those of you having hassles with wifi should investigate MyWi.
It lets you (amongst other things) create a USB tethering network to your Mac.
So you can connect the iDevice via the standard 30-pin or lightning cable, and create a network midi session via Audio/Midi setup in utilities.
Then all your software can receive midi from Lemur directly without even needing the Lemur Daemon.
There's a 3-day free trial of MyWi, so as long as you are comfortable Jailbreaking then you've got nothing to lose in trying it out.
The app costs $20 from the Cydia store, but I tried it for 10 minutes tonight and bought it straight after. Seems to be the answer I was looking for.

Latency is still not as low as when hooking up via USB-midi adaptors and the CCK, by the way, but still perfectly acceptable.
Also, because your iPad is connected to the computer, it shouldn't drain the battery (keeping in mind that most computer's ports won't really charge it). Unlike with the CCK option.

That's the thing though, it's not a Lemur issue, as you say. Anything that relies on wifi to talk to the computer will have the exact same issue. Hopefully Apple will step it up with a future iOS update.

Gonna have to jump on this Lemur shiz now. Smh. Looks awesome. Def getting a iPad soon now!
For the record, when using TouchOSC, I use my Hotspot on my phone. That way you get internet (no matter where you're at) and you have direct connect with your touch midi controller. no lag like when you get connecting to the venue's router, cause you don't know how close or far it is from you

excellent video. once you watch it you can pretty much go from there with whatever you want to do.
resolume and lemur are to very different animals. if you use resolume, the main usage is to display additional visuals alongside ME, add additional effects to the ME output or projection mapping. you can even use it standalone.
lemur is purely a tool to trigger Midi or OSC capable software such as VSL, ME and even resolume.

Tips with touch OSC.
Restart app (by closing it)
Disconnect and reconnect wifi
Manually enter computer's IP address if it doesnt show up when bridge is activated (I have todo this all the time in the club if the club or venue has tons of people with cell phones all on)
Restart Ipad.
