CD Turntables

rocafella409 3:11 PM - 3 March, 2007
I want to buy a pair of CD turntables to use with scratch live, but wasn't sure if I still get all the features of the CD turntables such as cueing, effects, samplers, bpms and so on? If anybody knows if I would that would be great. Thanks

I love SSL>but there needs to be just as much attention to be paid to cd player users just as much as turntables...I personally would like to see an entirely different forum you can click on that is soley dedicated to cd control users>reason being>I hate searching for a needle in a haystack of threads mainly comnprised of vynil control users-
cueing is still an issue- for example> your track is placed-you notice you have to inch your way close to the drop of the first beat of the track>this is done by pressing play and then quickly pressing pause-so I can slowly rotate the jog wheel to get me to the first beat drop- after this I then hit my cue button-this now sets & places the start point>here's the issue>pressing the cue button the first time obviously sets it- pressing it again>floats your set cue point back to square one-thus you must start all over again to set your begining cue point-THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AGGRIVATING AND COMPLETELY FRUSTRATING- but if one had turntables-this won't ever be a cueing issue due to the fact of the control record- I understand there is much more control over cueing using records-but there seriously needs to be more tweaking on this for cd player users-not sure wether its software or what-my love for spinning actual records/using SSL hasn't diminished-but I had to focus on CD player usage largely-I wish things were a bit more tighter for cueing- I currently do not wish to purchase turntables-but its looking like I am going in that direction if the cueing issues are not resolved fairly soon here- not happy about dropping that $$$$
SERATO>PLEASE PUT UP VIDEO DEMO'S>MAKE THEM LENGTHY & NOT TOO SHORT...
THANKS-C.

I've used SSL with CDX and it runs fine. You can't run any effects, bpms, and samplers. Not a big deal, you can do most of that stuff from a mixer, sampler, and SSL.

I use the CDJ-1000s but I would suggest the CDJ-800s cause they are smaller and more practical. The EFX would be part of the Mixer or EFX Machine that you connect to your setup. When you purchase just thing longetivy and durability for me it's Pio all the way. Plus, DON'T worry about getting the MP3 Readable CD Players since you have Serato there is really no point.

Christos: what CD players do you have? A quick tip is add a 2 Second gap of "Dead Air space" in front of your tracks so it gives you room to cue it visually. Sometimes the buffer in the CD player takes a while to catch up to your laptop in Serato. Thanks
