thanks everyone!!

It's a solid track. The breakdown at 3:13 is ok but the build up at the end of it needs work and the drop is anti-climactic.

You've got a good foundation here...

Remember that the idea behind a breakdown/buildup/drop is the breakdown is like a breath of fresh air...then the buildup is chaotic, and finally the drop is a release...

Your buildup isn't all that chaotic and your drop is sorta bland so there's no feeling of tension and release, so the track doesn't have as much energy as it could.

I'd add some filtered noise at about 3:36 and make increase in volume until the beat comes back at 3:39. Then, with the return of the beat, add a new baseline an octive lower than what you've already got...it can be simple, maybe just a deep single note that plays 3 times...

If you're counting in 16th notes it could be like this:

1e%a2e&a3e&a4e&a
* **

The asteriscs would be the base hits, leave measures 3 and 4 empty of it...just adding these 3 notes for the rest of the song beefs up the part after the breakdown and makes you feel like you've gotten somewhere new.

Hope all that makes sense to you...it's hard to explain stuff like this in text.
Dj Pepi 9:50 PM - 2 March, 2007
yeah i understand...put more energy in the 3:36 part...and a new baseline....

thanks man!!

Dj Pepi 1:08 AM - 3 March, 2007
Woody..i will really like your opinion
proffesor ink 1:27 AM - 3 March, 2007
interesting.

just listened to your track. question i would ask is what is your intention?? now i will answer what i think your intention might be: it sounds like a teck track with a 2 min intro a moving middle melody a breakdown and an ending.

it is not too commercial, and not to deep, kinda down the middle, but definetly teck but not techno. dont know if i could play it, but i do like it. especially from like 2:30 to 3:30. does that help
Dj Pepi 1:31 AM - 3 March, 2007
thanks
Dj Pepi 2:22 AM - 3 March, 2007

what labels should i send it?..please help me..i want to send it to the right labels
Dj Pepi 9:48 PM - 3 March, 2007
someone?
dj cubicle 10:37 PM - 3 March, 2007
Pepi, if you're truly serious about this, it's probably time to start looking into a professional to manage your affairs for you. They would be able to provide you with information about labels to submit tracks to and if a label wants to pick up your song, you're going to need an attorney or someone to review the contract.
Dj Pepi 11:01 PM - 3 March, 2007
yeah but for now..for demos..im ok
DJ Michael Basic 12:13 AM - 4 March, 2007
I still think you could add something to make the drop after the break come in a little harder, but at this point I'd play this track out now...I'll play it wednesday and let you know how it goes over.

a-swift...I doubt you need my help with production work...but I'm always happy to lend my two cents, for whatever they are worth.
Dj Pepi 12:14 AM - 4 March, 2007
is a-swift good with production???

no, that's why i'm asking michael for help
Dj Pepi 1:59 AM - 4 March, 2007
what do you produce?
DJ Michael Basic 2:30 AM - 4 March, 2007
I'm no good with production at all...havn't really gotten into it yet...but I know what I want tracks to sound like, and what I want them to do, I always find myself going, "I wish they would have done this right here." so if someone who produces a track asks for feedback, I'm always down to give it.
Dj Pepi 3:19 AM - 4 March, 2007
michael..can you tell me good labels to send my demo?
Beale Dabbs 8:00 PM - 4 March, 2007
A few thoughts,

I really wonder what that modulated sub bass that runs throughout the track would do on a large sound system. It sounds like it's cross modulating with the bassline when the bassline enters.

The break down is very close. It could use just a bit more decoration and suspense.

My ear wants to hear traditional hihats come in on the "and" beats at some point for an energy lift. That's more my own personal preference than anything actually wrong with the song.

This is actually my kind of track! I love tech house. I think you do have a good track there. Pepi, what do you make tracks with?
Dj Pepi 8:02 PM - 4 March, 2007
ableton and i am going to start with logic
Dj Pepi 8:03 PM - 4 March, 2007
im starting to use ableton for djing...but for production..ableton and logic
Dj Pepi 8:09 PM - 4 March, 2007
i really liked your tracks Dabbs...i like your style!..hows the "carl cox" mixer working for you??..i like it but like i said i am using ableton for dj so i only use controllers!...wow i really dig your studio haha...

Dj Pepi 2:34 AM - 9 March, 2007
Michael Basic did you played it?
DJ Michael Basic 2:37 AM - 9 March, 2007
I played it...heads were definately nodding. It fit well in my set. It's a good song to use during the buildup part of the set...I started mixing in the next song during the break since it doesn't come in that strong after the break still, but it worked quite well.

Looking forward to hearing more of your work.
Dj Pepi 2:40 AM - 9 March, 2007
thanks man
Beale Dabbs 5:58 AM - 9 March, 2007
That's how I see using the track as well. Early to midway in the set. It's a spare enough arrangment to use in a long blend with the incoming track.
Releaux 6:20 AM - 9 March, 2007
Digging the track, Pepi. I concur with the above opinions and would add that it might also make a good after-hours track when people are kind of in that floaty trance zone and just sort of bobbing along.

As a general piece of advice on song/track craft, you often want to provide the audience with variety and drama. House is a special case, as sometimes the consistency/monotony is part of the draw, but as you do more work in the future, keep the need to provide variety in mind.

If you start too high at the beginning, you've got nowhere to build to. Similarly, if you start low but only build halfway up, it can be unsatisfying.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to listen to people who have achieved the success you're looking for and take the best tricks they have to offer while maintaining your own style. Good artists borrow. Great artists steal. ;-)
Request_This_Ladies 8:27 AM - 9 March, 2007
I don't know if anyone already said this, but do you have your material copyrighted?

Its great you are excited and sharing your work, but you need to protect your material.
Releaux 5:39 PM - 9 March, 2007
Good point, RTL. Pepi, you technically have a copyright as soon as you have the work in a format like tape, record, mp3, etc.

The important thing is to register the work with the copyright office. This gives you additional legal rights (primarily related to how much money you're entitled to) in the event someone infringes on your copyright.

The process is pretty easy, but if you have a manager or a lawyer, they can help you. If you're serious you should start thinking about getting an entertainment lawyer sooner than later. Get a lawyer before anything else. =-)

if you can hold off for 4 more years, i should be able to help you out in the law dept. LOL
dj cubicle 5:49 PM - 9 March, 2007
...except that i know nothing of the copyright laws in portugal...

hmmm...i wonder if we missed that part? :)
Releaux 5:59 PM - 9 March, 2007
I certainly missed that part. Assuming Portugal is part of the WIPO copyright treaty, some of the minor details may be different, but the bulk of the copyright law should be pretty similar.
