Keep it real, What are the best tables?

marknonsense1 9:40 PM - 22 February, 2007
I'm going to get some new tables and sell my M3D's! I'm thinking of get the M5G's but I have the mk5's too!

What are the best tables to all of you guys and why?
Dj KaGeN 9:43 PM - 22 February, 2007
fisher price.
scotty B 9:47 PM - 22 February, 2007
I have not looked into tables for a while. If was to get another set it would probably just be another set of my all time fav. MKII black.
DJ.ReFRESH 9:49 PM - 22 February, 2007
I prefer 1200s and any of the later variations (currently rocking M3Ds).

I'm sure there are many alternatives out there that offer the same, if not more, bells and whistles but the industry standard is the 1200. Walk into most club setups and this is what you'll find in the DJ booth.
DJ GaFFle 9:51 PM - 22 February, 2007

Naw, you already own the best line of turntables. Just get the M5G's...nuff said.
Dj Ryme 9:51 PM - 22 February, 2007
I have 4 black mk2's scotty, my fav's as well!
scotty B 9:55 PM - 22 February, 2007
Ya Man, I been really thinking of getting another pair, but I had to sell my Back up 909... So I dunno now.
marknonsense1 9:58 PM - 22 February, 2007
I would but I hear the mk2's have a bit of an offset with the pitch? ( This is why I'm selling my m3d's) I took them to a place to cleaned and reset, they work like new but I think I can get something a little more accurate!
Thundercat 10:02 PM - 22 February, 2007

I'm not that old and I'm a little new to the whole djing thing so I'm not all that big with older cats.

I know most of the DJ's in Bakersfield but I think like 1/4 of them may not like me for one reason or other. I get a little to crazy when it come to what people say...

You probably talked to A-Dub then. I just barely moved back to Bakersfield after leaving in 1996. But yeah man, hit me up if you're ever doing anything in town. I'd like to check it out.
marknonsense1 4:01 AM - 23 February, 2007

I'm not into the whole b-boy thing but my cuz o wants me to go.
sixxx 4:08 AM - 23 February, 2007
I'm going to be out of town this Saturday. Oh well, maybe next time. I'd like to see what you got as far as skills though.
dj disturbed 4:53 AM - 23 February, 2007
i have one of those antique crank ones that play the shellac records.. the ones that have the horn comming from the top.. those things are the bomb..... but your arm gets tired in the middle of your set plus if the crowd get too hyped up.. they hit the mic stand holding the mic into the horn of the thing! ( i realy do have one of those BTW.... but its in storage till i get a biiger place where i have room for it to be in a safe place)

I'm not saying I'm the best ( If your thinking that) or anything but I will get better...

Did you hear the mix on myspace? I really did that live and off the top of my head... I don't use set's yet! This will be my 1st summer as a real DJ ( you know that right) I think everyone sees the best gear and thinks pro but it's not like that. I got some records from Wreck a long time ago but never had the money to buy the tables and shit. Then I got some TTX1's had them for a mo and someone jacked me.... So I said fuck it..... Once I got the money I just got all the best shit.... I been really doing this for about 1yr.. I think for the time, I'm the shit!

I'm trying to come up with a set but I get into it I just say fuck it what for. So if you see me live you'll see I'm alway's looking for the next song..... lol
shiestO! 6:38 PM - 23 February, 2007
i got the m5g's.

they got wide pitch control +-16.

they're the only way to go imo but i feel like i've said that like 019239-09124-810 times before so please get em. you'll be happy you did and they'll last forever. ask anyone.

peace
Dj KaGeN 6:42 PM - 23 February, 2007
^^ helluva sales pitch right there.. no other decks on the market have such a broad pitch range. (perhaps....Stanton or Numark)
shiestO! 6:48 PM - 23 February, 2007
i think some numarks have +- 10 but not 16. somebody chime in and correct me if i'm wrong.

(go m5g)
dj disturbed 6:51 PM - 23 February, 2007
some numarks (TTX) have +-10/25/50 selectable
DJ Michael Basic 6:56 PM - 23 February, 2007
TTxs have settings for 8, 10, 20, and 50. I like different tables for different things. I record most of my house mixes with the ttxs because I do really long blends and it's easier to ride a blend for 3 minutes on a digital table.

For normal practice and use, I like the mk5s. I think the m5gs are dope, but for the money, it might not be worth it for you...remember, especially as a new DJ, you'll wanna practice on a table that has features you'll be able to use when you play at a club. If you get used to the wider pitch range, and then you get to a club with regular 1200s, you'll be out of luck on that really cool mix you do from We Fly High into Sexyback.

The TTX's i used to have didnt have a setting for 8 onthem.. but then they were old once b4 they revised them with even more torq!
Dj KaGeN 6:59 PM - 23 February, 2007
1200's have a big reputation, and even I will not knock it. But I refuse to actually buy in that any other deck on the market can rival them. There are other lines with top performers out there that have MORE features.. Do I use those features... not always. But it's just like any sports car. Your car may have top out in 5th gear, but I have 6th, Reverse, Key Correction (that works w/ SSL), Fully adjustable Brake on start and stop all at my fingertips. All for the same price. And the added benefit of watching all the '1200 only' fools cave in and say that it responds better. The deck: STR8-150.
allenbina 12:53 AM - 24 February, 2007
honestly.... i drooled over the new vestax tables. if they had as much street cred, i would have paid full price for them in a second. still, i dont like showing up at an event and explaining to managers / owners the difference between turntables and why i dont have the tried and true.

i have 4 TTX's, and one of them broke last week. the "pitch range" button cracked and now its stuck at 20%. piece of shit. i have adjusted to it very well, but it is what it is.

and get shot <insert this weeks number> times?

most widely rated and recognised deck of course the 1210.

if i was buying new, my money would be on the stanton str8-150. 1210 type styling (cause its the platter style, layout, and features of this sort that make the 1210 so nice to work with in my opinion) with modern functionality and torque.
spinjin 2:25 AM - 24 February, 2007
I still have my Technics SL1200 MKII from the day I got it brand-spankin' new back in '94. Until this very day, it's kickin' the shit out my other equipment in terms of longevity. As a matter of fact, it seems like it hasn't aged a bit (I take care of them as I do with all my equipment). Yep, the Techs are indeed tried and tested. Bar none, the 1200 MKII are classic ... period!
spinjin 2:29 AM - 24 February, 2007
Just to add to my previous post, before I had my Technics, I had the very first Vestax high-torque motor turntables. It was the PDT-2000. I had a pair of those, and although they were very good, the power button on them sucked as they were rubber. Also, I had to press harder and harder each time because the mechanism wasn't built properly. At any rate, I guess I just revealed the length of my DJing career... ha!

They can only be bought online. The elements one has been sold very nicely since I designed them. I got a few more designs that I'm going to be uploading soon.

You can see what the elements t=shirt looks like in these pictures. I'm wearing the t.

dj_soo 11:03 PM - 26 February, 2007
if you intend to be a club/rave dj, you'll usually be performing in places with an installed system (or is otherwise provided for you). If that's the case, go techs. 99% of the time it's what you'll be playing on and there's no point coming up with great routines utilizing the extra features on something like a TTX1 or a PDX2000 when you can't use it when you perform.

If you only want to be a bedroom DJ (do these people actually exist?) or you plan on being a mobile dj where you bring your own gear to every gig, then go with what feels comfortable.

Techs are built like tanks but are sorely lacking in features that the competition have. The thing that's though proven though, is the fact that with regular maintenence, your techs will last you 10 years... Something that the other guys can't say with any certainty. That and they have decent re-sale value too.
