How about a subforum where people can put up links to downloads of their music/remixes/etc? It's hard to keep up with all the great productions people put up on here, but a specific forum for offering up tracks would definitely help.

That'd be a good idea ... along with upgrading the forum in general so everyone can have their avatars etc

I hate avatars. If you want an avatar you should link it to your profile page thats sufficient IMHO.

I'm not a huge fan either, i was just trying to gently suggest moving to a forum setup like phpBB.

as a guy who runs a busy forum, and who has personal experience with various software... i would ask the serato mods to NEVER use phpbb.
invision board all the way, baby.

Why is phpBB so popular then? phpBB boards are everywhere

phpBB was probably the best first free-based forum back in the day by way of features, especially when it was compared to Infopop and VBulletin's solutions.
These days phpBB is a little long in the tooth—it's kind of a processor hog and version 3 is still in beta. It was in beta 3 years ago.
I'd have to vote for punBB. [ www.punbb.org ]

(I forgot to mention VBulletin and Infopop had paid solutions.)
I really like the cleanness of this forum—do you really need some cheesy avatar?

As i said, not worried about the avatar.
I just think this forum's layout is ugly, clunky and fiddly. It also constantly displays incorrect information regarding post numbers.

It shouldn't, and we don't see that at present. Please let us know when this happens again and we'll fix it.
This post from AJ explains why we are not using phpbb -> scratchlive.net

cause its free.
free does not mean good.
its totally hack-tastic... server intensive, and horrid to work with from an adminisration point of view... i, like many who once ran phpbb, didnt even realise this until i moved away from it, and had exposure to good forum software.
