Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Radio Dj's need the Sampler Feature PLZ!

DJ KiDD LeoW 6:21 PM - 8 February, 2007
I want to use Serato on the air but I can't fire the drops (Station ID's) out of Serato. I have talked with alot of other radio guys about this and they also would love this feature. Idea: The Sampler that would fire using a hot key on the keyboard... (Space bar would be awesome and easy to hit while mixing :)

isn't that what cart machines are for?
Jay Sol 7:54 AM - 9 February, 2007

my point was 1) radio stations already have provisions to do this, and 2) with a 2-channel soundcard, how do you propose this sampler to work? sampler output on both channels? a single (which one? selectable?) channel? a 3rd channel with an additional soundcard?

unless you want to "drop" over two active channels in a mix, it's nothing you couldn't do by playing a sample on an opposite channel and then loading the next track to mix in.
KitK 12:52 AM - 10 February, 2007
If it is a real radio station, they will have a drop/sampler to use, or a cart.. but they will have something.. you do not need Serato for this.. hell buy a SP-808 if you want a sampler.
DJ Quintessence 1:51 AM - 10 February, 2007
Aside from the radio station issue.
Sampler is a solid idea and should be easy implement into the program without causing too many problems.

I'm not technical pro in this area and I never actually thought of that. Maybe since the computer still plays audio out of the sound card (computer speakers) maybe it can be simple line out to an auxillary sampler like the one here:
www.scratchlive.net

I'm sure there is some way to do it, that's what the genius' at Serato get paid the big bucks for! :-).

How did the station play drops before Serato? This isn't really a necessity. They either have carts, instant replays, short-cuts, or button bars via the automation system. let's keep the clutter to a minimum
DJ CROSSFADE 9:25 AM - 11 February, 2007
i would like this to torq got it thats y i got torq (that was a bad move to buggy )
Dj Massiv 4:53 AM - 12 February, 2007
Also for us spinning reggae this would be an extremely cool feature. In reggae mixing you often use small samples of horns, weird noises, "rastafari" etc.

(Serato uses all the "in's" on my mixer so right now i can't even connect an external sampler. I need a 4-channel mixer I know)
DJ BIS 5:12 AM - 13 February, 2007
I am getting a tiny little mixer for $40 that I connect my sampler and DJ mixer to, this will solve that problem.

I realize you can fire the drops from Nexgen at the station. I want this feature for in the club, for the shows that require a drop in or out of breaks. A sampler for SSL that would play over the music like the dennon 2600 does for example... 15 sec worth would work. Thanks for the comments :)
diamonddon33 2:24 AM - 3 October, 2008
drop sampler in the digital ttm57 would come from aux and if you have the sl1 box out put from headphone jack of cpu to aux so you can control vol. or mix in that how drop sampler should work.
defjamblaster 10:09 PM - 3 October, 2008
needs to be in the regular software
Rock 11:01 PM - 23 October, 2008
dj kidd leo,

That's what your on-air personality or board-op should be doing as part of their job. However, you should load the station sweepers into your computer & fire it yourself. I work @ a radio station & I do this all the time. Just get the station sweepers & create a seperate crate for them, or just use a cd...
Rock 11:02 PM - 23 October, 2008
as far as the club goes, i suggest that you loop the intro of the song you mix into, then drop in the sweeper...
DJ_ AfterShok 5:20 PM - 24 October, 2008
A built in sampler would deffinately be the shit! right now i been useing mt Dr Sampler SP-303 which isnt bad but a built in sampler would save me about 5 minutes setup time.
SIMPLY SMOOTH 3:56 AM - 6 November, 2008
yes its needed .. not all djs play the same way .. and to suggest that "thats what cart machines are for" is very retarded..

the software called "kueit" is selling very well and is endorsed by fatman scoop ..dj clue and others ...

serato could easily add in this feature .. i wont carry a cart machine to a club now would i ... sfx .. pulll ups and personal jingles can easily be triggered..

and remember .. not all users of serato play in the same environment ..

the jamaican users for sure would dig it and al radio djs ...

Looks like your wishes are being commanded... I did a quick google search and upon looking at SSL V. 1.8.3 ... looks like they are trying out the "X", "C", and "V" buttons for drops and samples ... I know its "Unofficial" but hey, atleast they got sumthing in the works ... Also ... Currently, I am using a Roland SP 404 ... and yah its an extra bulk, but it works great, and also looks really nice ... people at partys go CRAZY when then see me push down a button, and my dj name comes out ... (Mainly the drunk people) they say "HOSWSZ U DO THAT???" ... lol not to bring this off topic, but I do hope they come out with that option! ...

Oh and BTW, I am using the Rane TTM56 ... I just plug in from the sampler to the Aux IN ... and it works fine .. For those who cant really afford a sampler right now ... I found out an ipod works JUST as GREAT to drop your samples or drops ..ex Siren effect, air horn, Dj Drop ect ...Hope this helps someone...

kue it is the hottest thing out
www.kueit.com
defjamblaster 5:36 PM - 6 November, 2008
i hope they hurry up and implement the feature in ssl so the kueit reps can step off...i say that because kueit sent me an offer to get paid for each person who buys it, so i know we probably have some on here. this statement is NOT directed to djwheezy, he just reminded me of it...

Djkevykev818, what exactly did you search for that showed those results?

Just go to google.com .... Then search serato 1.8.3 ... When the search results come in... Click on the third link down that says bumsquad... Don't click on the link tho... Right under it... Click on cached..

Like I said ... It's all unofficial... But hey... Atleast the ideas there
defjamblaster 8:35 AM - 7 November, 2008
wow...so is that unofficial from serato, or unofficial from the bumsquad (who made it up?)
DJ KiDD LeoW 3:15 AM - 9 November, 2008
The Sampler is finally Coming! :)
Shifty1 8:56 PM - 21 November, 2008
i agree!!!!sampler!!!
Kenny Q 3:06 AM - 26 November, 2008
Whoever is marketing Kueit, is pretty smart.
This person is hyping it up it's the greatest thing on earth.
Kenny Q 3:08 AM - 26 November, 2008
I meant to write:
"This person is hyping it up like it was the greatest thing on earth".
diablodigital 4:09 PM - 27 November, 2008
An integrated sampler would be a big help. I don't want to be jumping between two different pieces of software during a live set. That's a mistake waiting to happen
charlee1985 5:44 PM - 27 November, 2008
i start using Scratch live after many years of djin with virtual dj. i got a bit dissapointed that scratch live doesnt have sampler! they should deffo be 1 on the next release
Dj Knockout101 1:01 AM - 14 December, 2008
KueIt works great
defjamblaster 5:14 AM - 15 December, 2008
a DJ i know with kueit says the global keys dont work well because (according to him) serato uses pretty much every key. global keys are the only reason to use kueit instead of vegetable soup...maybe he doesnt know how to do it properly without it affecting serato...
dj skinnyjimmy 5:40 PM - 15 December, 2008
i just use the caps function.. so if i wanna use a serato shortcut i just hit shift. if i dont use shift it will play a drop
defjamblaster 6:26 PM - 15 December, 2008
i'll ask him to try that and see it it helps...whats your exact method of using kueit? what keys do you use to trigger drops? i even saw in the video on their site when one guy hit his drop, the serato started doing something undesired...serato would have to remain unaffected for me to try it...
dj skinnyjimmy 11:13 AM - 26 December, 2008
i actually prefer half screen mode with apple tab. the way global hot keys works is you can turn it off and on while ur rock on serato... so for instance you would want to turn it off when u wanna type and search for something and then turn it on when you wanna play a drop. either way is easy to use
defjamblaster 5:09 PM - 27 December, 2008
wow, that sounds very inconvenient to have to turn it off and on. yu may as well use a free one with the tab...i think nothing will be better than when serato implements it themselves.
ryacky 6:10 PM - 7 January, 2009
kueit looks way cool, but I'd love to see it just implemented in serato rather than toggling back and forth between programs and even worse shelling out another $100 for another program.
djdannyd 10:58 PM - 9 January, 2009
If Serato comes up with an update in the near future with a similar function as "kueit" will you all be willing to pay for it $80-$100 for it or just use a separate program and toggle back and forth.....
defjamblaster 2:06 AM - 10 January, 2009
i would only pay for one that does not require switching programs.
Jay Sol 12:06 AM - 14 January, 2009
i got my SP-404...i'll stick with that...
J-Fresh 1:08 AM - 14 January, 2009
The TTM57 is a 2 channel mixer. It'd be nice to have a way to do this over 2 playing tracks, if possible.
And/Or, it'd be nice to be able to program hotkey for specific sample tracks so that they could be loaded without having to locate it each time for loading.
Kenny Q 2:12 AM - 14 January, 2009
You can do the same thing and much more if you have Ableton Live.
djdannyd 11:59 PM - 15 January, 2009
Hey 1.9.? is coming out too check it out.....it will have a sampler function
djMPULSE 3:24 AM - 16 January, 2009

djdannyd 7:46 PM - 17 January, 2009
it should be out tomorrow or monday check back in the forum BETA section
defjamblaster 10:13 PM - 17 January, 2009
thanks, i dont always remember where to get the betas immediately, or find out when theyre coming out...
djdannyd 11:35 PM - 17 January, 2009

or something like that
defjamblaster 4:35 AM - 18 January, 2009

u know some of u guys are just plain ignorant(rednecks!), and dont want to progress!!??
why wouldnt u want a sampler, what if ur doing a mixshow live from the club ?
what r u gonna do ?...bring the cart machine to the club ?
duh......smoke some more weed

oh and maybe it would be better for a dj to control when the sample lands...
instead of some stupid board op thats a freaking intern...but u didnt think of that ...did u ?

or how about what efx/sample u want to drop in...a dj knows his own mix better than some radio idiot, so what about what the sample is that he or she(hi ladies)
wants to drop...

seriosuly ?
if u dont know....stfu
