How Long Will The NS7 Run Without Performance Issues?

djamiri 4:13 PM 29 July 2010
Hi All,

Going to be running the NS7 on and off for about 10 hours this weekend, has anyone run their NS7 for that long? If so how was the performance, any tips? Thanks.

hello guy

i already run my NS7 about 9 hours without any issues and i 'm convinced it could be run more time!

The longer your set the more ram you will use, however if you have a reasonable amount of ram 2GB + and ensure good airflow you will be fine.

We often run these all day here - as sbangs points out, just make sure your computer has enough RAM and everything is ventilated properly.

I'd make sure you are also doing everything in this article:www.serato.com

Enjoy.

To say what Simon and Matt said differently, don't look at the NS7 as the weakest link. By far, the computer's OS, in particular the reliance on drivers, is the weakest link.

Exactly.... the NS7 by itself won't really be a problem unless it heats up or you spill a beer in it :-P

Whoa, whoa, whoa... Who's drinking beer next to the NS7??? _I_ don't even to that.

Blasphemy! Sacrilege!

Here is an update on the NS7 Performance after the performance last night. The NS7 was on for 9 1/2 hours last night and it performed rock solid! The only issue I had was about 8 hours into the gig my the crossfader stopped working, but I remember reading a while back that if you move the Fader/Counter button all the way to the right and then back to the left and it would fix the problem, and it fixed the problem immediately! This could also be attributed to the fact I still use ITCH 1.1!

Setup info: MBP 13"
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ
2GB RAM
250GB Hard Drive

yesterday, i played for 4 1/2 hours. At exactly 1:00 am, the screen started to flicker, and their was a very brief dropout, itch started going in to low framrate, especially when i touched the platters. I minimized itch to see what was wrong, and I saw that aero had been disabled. After about 5 minutes, there was another flicker, and everything was normal. It was very weird. I don't think it was my ns7 though. It was like my system scheduled something to happen at exactly 1:00 am. It didn't cause me any audio problems, I was just freaking out for a few minutes, i thought something was gonna blow.

Sounds like a scheduled task, one reason why it's a good idea to run a computer very lean... especially when it comes to data backups or scans.
If you are curious to what is happening, start a new help thread and we can help you out :D
ITCH prioritizes audio playback over visual elements, as ITCH is an audio performance platform, so the last thing to go should be audio if there is a CPU overload. (Note: this doesn't include USB data dropouts).

Just incase anyone wanted to know, I finally found out what had happened:

"On my Windows 7 machine, WinSat is listed as a Scheduled Task to be run every Sunday at 1am.

It is found under Task Scheduler Library\Windows\Maintenance..."

i went to scheduled tasks and changed it, so if any of you play late on a saturday night and is using windows, this might help.
