Feature Request: Return to previous crate when using CTRL + F

zaguama 2:51 AM 25 July 2010
When you do a CTRL + F to find a track it allows you to search throughout your whole library, however when you do find it and you delete whatever you typed in on the search box the default behavior is that it remains on the "ALL" crate. I think it will be better that whenever you find your track and you erase the text from the search box that it returns to the previous crate where you were standing before you hit CTRL + F.

Option B which will be very helpful as well is to allow you to open the crate where the track you found on the search result is located. sometimes you might know the name of one of the tracks but you just dont remember where the crate is so this will allow you to find the track and then open up the track to see the remaining tracks of that crate and carry on with your mixing.

I'm not sure if Serato will even read this or care about it but i thought it might have been worth trying than not attempting it at all :)

the ui could work something like this:

hit ctrl-f to search all
enter term hit return
focus is on search results. search field stays populated.
(if you hit ctrl-f again now, you go back to the search field but it highlights your previous query so you can type over it or hit the right or left arrow key to add something to the end or beginning)
shift--return converts your search results into a temporary crate named search
otherwise, as soon as you send one of the tracks to a deck the results are cleared and you are taken back to the last crate/window arrangement you had prior to invoking ctrl-f
any time you perform a search, the previous temporary search crate gets deleted if you press shift-return and overwritten with the new results.

search results should include a special column having a crate icon. Clicking it would popup a hierarchical list of crates the song is in and allow you to jump to any of them or any of their parents by clicking it. Performing such a jump would take you to that crate and, if the song you jumped from is visible in that crate, it would be highlighted and centered on screen.

I like this

what if the track is in muliple crates (i.e. mixtape crates)
Calzone 5:57 PM 26 July 2010
that's why it should be a popup list.

Only problem I see with that is if you have a track in 20 different crates and several of them are nested deep inside like 5 other crates. That would make the list really long and wouldn't fit nicely on your screen without having some kind of scroll capability.
DJ.AJ 6:17 PM 26 July 2010
yes, maybe they can do a split screen like the prepare list or something like that
then it would work where when that "view" is active.

So when you select a track in the track list - the above list will show you all the crates where that track has been put in and u can click it. when u click it, the track list would change and show what is in that crate u clicked on with track still selected in the new track list
Oh and maybe a last crate shortcut could be implemented.
Calzone 6:32 PM 26 July 2010
why split screen when a simple contextual menu will do?

For example, when you add or remove columns in your list views you get a contextual menu of all the possible columns to choose from. Same kind of thing should be used to show you the crates for your selected song. Otherwise you'd lose a lot of real estate from the split screen and there would be a performance hit every time you change a selection from your search results because the other screen would be refreshing the list of crates when 9/10 you probably don't care. For that 1/10 that you do care, just click on an icon and get the little popup list.
DJ.AJ 9:13 PM 26 July 2010
I like the icon idea as well. That would be great while doing a live performance but offline. I'd rather have the big list and you can choose how much real estate it takes up. If the user started scrolling down the list with the arrow button or something yes i could see some thrashing occurring but that certainly would not be the intended use. But yeah the icon is a nice idea. where would it go ?

it(ch) should also have a search history crate or something. would be a nice feature...

if you are just looking for a song why does it matter what crate it is in..... the ctrl+f takes you to the searched song then you need to return back to the crate you were just in... the location of searched song is irrelevant right?

I think this is handy sometimes, not necassirly during a gig, but more so during the prep. I have encountered siuations were I have a song in multiple crates, and I have renamed the file and moved its physical location, so the file shows up lost in all crates. So if you want to place the song back in all the crates it was in there is no easy way to do it.

Resurrecting thread!

-Please give us the ability to do a CTRL + F to search for a track and return to the previous crate that you had open before hitting CTRL + F if you erase your search (it currently takes you to the ALL crate)
-If you do load a song from your search results allow us to open the crate of the song that you selected, you might have more songs that can be mixed with the one you chose but you just don't remember the crate.
-If the above is too complicated then at the very least put another column that shows on which crate the track is located, people that want this feature can just enable this column and at least we can manually search the crate.
zaguama 2:29 PM 7 October 2010
Sorry, just noticed that everyone has been posting feature requests and these were left in the past :) so Pene my prayers are with you.

basically ad a 'crate' column and we will be happy
zaguama 5:58 PM 7 October 2010
yeah i could live with that :P

Nice Idea, but what about songs which are located in 2 or more crates?
