Hey I gotta dell laptop with a 1.73 pentium M, 795mhz, and 1.99 or ram. It has a 40g internal hard drive running at 5400 that freezes if i try to run ableton on it and i just made it freeze with sl fast fwding and rewinding in internal mode too much.
So I use a western digital external drive w/7200rmp.
so this laptop can't handle ableton live as well as it can serato sl.
should I just get another external drive to free up the one i have for pure backup use. or is it worth it to put a 7200 internal drive in the laptop.
any suggestions on some monster drives?
peace and love

Personally I would go with a faster external. Faster drive=more heat. Laptops get hot enough as it is. For manipulating mp3 files, a 5400 rpm drive should be more than sufficient if it is kept neat an tidy (defrag regularly). For less lossy formats I would definitely recommend an external simply bacause of space considerations.

The 200 internals aren't fast (5400 rpm max) but they are fast enough for serato...maybe not ableton though.
So far, I'm loving my HP dv9035 with dual 200gb hard drives.

I like my big fast 500 gig external (firewire 800 connection). if you want big and very fast external... get a raid set up external (or build you own like im going todo with my next one to save $)
