NAMM 2007 - What To Expect

musiclee 3:17 PM - 17 January, 2007
Do we have to wait another day?

Since Serato will be showing off 1.8, i was just wondering what features would make it into 1.8
a-swift 3:33 PM - 17 January, 2007
is that a fact? serato is showing 1.8?
society 3:49 PM - 17 January, 2007

a-swift 7:10 PM - 17 January, 2007
I'd be willing to bet MIDI is not on the list of features in 1.8.
D-Twizzle 7:32 PM - 17 January, 2007
midi and programmable buttons would be nice.
CMOS 7:33 PM - 17 January, 2007

Out of curiousity, what makes you say this?

I've read an interview with Sam in which he says that they've had MIDI plans almost since day one, so it seems that they're keen to implement it. However, maybe they're finding it difficult to engineer.

Oh the suspense...
a-swift 5:16 PM - 18 January, 2007
First NAMM tidbit revealed. Traktor Scratch!
Konix 5:19 PM - 18 January, 2007
M-Audio's Torq controller will also be availible to see at 1:00pm EST on their website. A lot of things from Numark are already on the main page over at Skratchworx.com
JohnDP1 5:19 PM - 18 January, 2007

NAMM - Anaheim, Ca. Today - Sunday.

I just got home from the show. Strolled around a bit. My boy Hapa was doing a demo for Native Instruments (Traktor 3/ Scratch) so I hung out there for a bit. Arabian Prince was doing demos for Propellerhead (Reason), hung out there a bit. My friends Chris and Kris were spinning in the Pioneer booth. Ho hum.

I did get a chance to see the Torq controller thing but they did not have it setup so you could play with it. I gotta say it looks better than most of those controller things you see. The wheels on it where as big as CDJ wheels. That's big.

I stopped into the Serato booth. Maybe I didn't ask the right people but I didn't get any 1.8 features that I could see. Maybe I need to go back. I did get some stickers though and that made it worthwhile.

I wish I had a bunch of cool stuff to report. I don't. Everything was just kinda ho-hum to me.

The apple booth was badass though. Logic is the real deal.
musiclee 10:09 PM - 18 January, 2007
so what's new in 1.8?
doesn't anyone know?

please...anxiously waiting in the east coast for news...
whoami 10:18 PM - 18 January, 2007
i keep refreshing the page too! :)
musiclee 11:19 PM - 18 January, 2007
i'm willing to be that not too many big breakthrough updates/enhancements made it into 1.8

otherwise we would have known about them already.

just my $.02
sweetL 11:45 PM - 18 January, 2007
hold up, you use pcdj... i dont care what criticism you have to say... because you obviously dont get whats great about serato, else youd be using it.
whoami 2:48 AM - 19 January, 2007

paniago 3:16 AM - 19 January, 2007

DJJorel 5:02 AM - 19 January, 2007
I just came back from NAMM....here is what I heard. It was from one the sales reps...he was very adamant about not having any vaporware...but like I said...this is what I heard...

He said this about 1.8:
-It'll be ready hopefully 3rd quarter
-It will feature video manipulation
-It will feature video functions exclusive to the TTM57
-It will have MIDI support
-The video function will cost money, it will not be free...

He also mentioned that a 4 channel Serato mixer is sort of in the works and it is just getting off the ground. He also mentioned a possible upgrade to the SL1, but reassured me that we who own the SL1 don't have anything to worry about.

I also saw that Shortkut had solid white control vinyls....frikkin sick looking!
Konix 5:16 AM - 19 January, 2007
Excellent.

Logic 8??? That would be crazy, as Logic 7 Pro is completely amazing in and of itself.

i don't remember seeing logic 8. i know jack about logic, but i do think it was 7. even if logic is not the "standard" you woulda thought so after visiting that apple booth. they make that shit look so nice in booth, made me wanna go buy it,.. and i don't even have a use for it. now that's powerful.

Sometimes it seems like Apple is an advertising firm first and a computre manufacturer second.

That is because nothing they sell is truly innovative anymore. There's nothing they have that's not out there. They sell an image more then innovation.

They have extremely clever people who make things sound as if it's all groundbreaking, but it's not really..
'groundbreaking'?

There's a reason they dumped the 'computer' part from their name.. they should make it 'Apple marketing inc.'

er.. iPod seems to have revolutionised the digital music market in both good and bad ways.

iPhone with Mac OS X also come to mind.
