I'm a laker homer but
Kobe + Gasol + laker team > Wade + Bosh + whatever fools miami signs to fill the roster.

i'm sorry but the heat doesn't have any role players or significant presence from their bench at all. With the addition to Bosh & maybe lebron, im confident that miami will be a better team but still not good enough to make it to the finals.

hes not leaving cleveland....for everyone saying that he would do good here or there....the cavs had the best record in the league and won their division for the last 2 seasons, that means its not the team thats holding him from the title, they just need to get their shit together in the playoffs

something needs to happen with the cav's, it maybe byron scott or other key players. but if the cav's ain't doing nothing to make the team better, that's where i see lebron leaving.

true but by having the best record your beating all these other teams, you didnt reach the finals but having that record shows the pieces are there, its a winning team

regular season vs playoffs is very different. intensity is greater in the playoffs and you don't play all the shitty teams you beat during the regular season.
look at the celtics and how they did through out the season and how everything turned 180 once the playoffs started.

I can’t believe Lebron is that stupid, I can’t wait to see and hear what else comes out of Dan Gilberts mouth!

And before that letter was posted last night, there was a HUGE picture of Delonte West lol.
And the special was comical, granted I was booted while watching it, but the intro was HILLARIOUS, I mean it was so bad it was funny. What a tool Lebron is.

Wow, Lebron has reached bitch status, I mean you should hear all the shit this dude did and didn't do.
He had his friend call the Cav's 2 minutes before he made "The Decision", he couldn't even be a man and do it himself. I lost all respect for this bitch, I know there are two sides to every story, but the more I hear about the things Lebron did and didn't do, I mean there is no excuse. This dude will never be the greatest player who ever lived, because he can't be a man about things. He handled this the way a bitch would. I'm not a Cav's fan, I'm a Celtics fan, but many of us have lost a lot of respect for him.

Alot of people are upset with Lebron James because he made a decision that can win him a championship. He been with the Cavs for 7 years and all they add was a broken down Shaq. Its about championships. He already has money. Remember when a team trade you,you know the last second when they say you are gone.

That's true but we are talking about Lebron James. Cavs will never cut or trade him and they would contact Lebron if they wanted to discuss any issues with him face to face. He is their bread and butter. Mark Jackson shouldn't put Lebron on the same level as regular average NBA players.

What Lebron did was as if Jordan got tired of losing and left Chicago and joined Detroit just to win a title.

Let me ask you this, if this is true and its just about championships then wouldnt it make sence to take a pay cut and make salary room to bring some quality players, like a bosh or wade to cleveland to play?? I mean the cavs DIDNT suck they had the best record in the league and went deep into the playoffs both years, they were missing peices and those were pieces they couldnt get because of lebrons paycheck, if lebron cut his pay to make room for another star player do you not think the cavs...HIS TEAM...would have a championship comming up?? They wouldnt even have to work hard to get the player to come with a championship contender AND the "best player on the planet" on the team. Especially noy with Scott coachin......James took the easy way out plain and simple, he didnt feel the need to work or earn the title he feel privlidged to it, he thinks he deserves it because he is who he is so he stacked the deck to get it

What ya'll are ignoring is the fact that he's a grown man and he's making a grown man decision. The NBA is also a business where business decisions are made (organizational and player). In his mind, he feels it's best for him to go play for the Heat. I don't care if he's going there for the rings, the Cubans, the beaches, whatever... If he wants to play for the Heat, he's a FREE AGENT and he is allowed to do so.
The Cavaliers AND the city of Cleveland thrived and made hundreds of MILLIONS off of Lebron's name and abilities. That cash cow is now gone BUT they have nothing to worry about because their owner GUARANTEED a Championship b4 Lebron gets one in Miami + he put his curse on the Heat. This is coming for the Cavalier's owner??? LOL, what a Lamer... I see why Lebron left...

I will say that Lebron does NOT owe the Cavs anything. Just because Lebron is from Cleveland doesn't mean he has to give his life to the them. The Clevland Cavs will NOT bring a ring to Cleveland before the HEAT gets another one (or two/three/four...). The Cavs won't see a championship for another 20 years or more (I guarantee this... check this thread in 2031).
And for any of you who say Lebron isn't loyal, why should he be? The owners of these teams trade these guys in heartbeat. Lebron wants to win and win now, plain and simple. The Cavs did not draft a proper supporting cast to win.

They ended up with that split-screen of the King’s jersey burned live on his infomercial, as this sad, lost robot sat in a leafy suburban gymnasium with children as props and the world watching, those empty eyes masking a lost, dazed LeBron James(notes). This was the champagne shower for the Championship of Me, an exercise in self-aggrandizement and self-loathing that will have far-reaching implications for the NBA and James. What a spectacle, what a train wreck.
Cleveland fans were left feeling jilted after LeBron James abandoned them via national TV.
(AP Photo)
As the worst idea in the history of marketing unfolded, James looked trapped somewhere between despondence and defiance. His bumbling buddy Maverick Carter had walked him into the public execution of his legacy, his image, and there was a part of James that clearly wished he could turn back through the doors and hide. Only, it was too late. No going back now. James goes to the Miami Heat, Cleveland goes into a basketball Hades and LeBron’s legacy becomes that of a callous carpetbagger.

More NBA Videos More on LeBron JamesCavs owner's explosive letter to fans Warren Buffett to LeBron James: 'Call me' More From Adrian WojnarowskiState of LeBron: Live at 9, from his ego Jul 7, 2010 NBA stars know they better bank money now Jul 6, 2010 “His brand is [bleep] now,” one high-level NBA official said late Thursday. “He’s destroyed everything.”
The Championship of Me became the Championship of Flee, because LeBron James doesn’t believe he can be the centerpiece of a title team. He needed Dwyane Wade, a closer, far more than Wade needed him.
Yes, he’s ruined everything. What a wonderful idea: Divorce your childhood sweetheart on national television and tell her, hey, I’ll let you keep the “We are all Witnesses” billboards lording over downtown Cleveland.
“I’m taking my talents to South Beach,” James said, and it was like time stopped because – even for him – this was a moment so devoid of reality and free of concern of consequences. South Beach? He wasn’t picking a basketball team as much as a party. He’s 25 years old, and yet somehow this felt like a cloistered teenager picking a party school for college.
Yes, James will take his talent to South Beach and leave his soul in Cleveland. His hometown won’t hate him as much for leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers as for the way he left them. Leaving never would’ve been easy, but he went out of his way to humiliate them. LeBron James can never go home now. He’s the Browns leaving town, The Fumble, The Shot, all rolled into one colossal disappointment.
Now, Clevelanders truly see it for themselves: He was a fan of the Cowboys, the Yankees – never the Browns and Indians. He was a frontrunner, and he just made the most frontrunner move in the history of the NBA. Off to Miami with Riles, D-Wade and Chris Bosh(notes).
New York would’ve been hard, and maybe Cleveland would’ve been the hardest. With those state tax laws in Florida, he isn’t taking less money with the Heat. He’s just taking less risk and less burden in his championship chase.
“This whole idea that he makes his own decisions, that [bleep] went out the window with this,” one NBA executive said. “Someday, he’s going to look back at this and not believe that he let those kids at LRMR talk him into doing this. This idea that he’s his own man … Come on, he’s a follower. And he’s following all the way to Miami now.”
This was the train rolling down the tracks from miles and miles away, and James never saw it coming. He should lose his obsession to become the richest athlete ever, because the people surrounding LeBron James are much more likely to leave him broke than a billionaire. Someday, he will fire his business manager Maverick Carter for turning the two-time MVP’s free-agent moment into Geraldo and Al Capone’s vault. Carter used the cover of charity for a historically horrible event and completely destroyed the credibility of his client.
So now people are cheering Dan Gilbert’s manifesto tearing apart James, but no one contributed more to what the world witnessed on Thursday night than the owner’s enabling of James and his inner circle for seven years. Gilbert is the biggest con going, a man who makes his fortune peddling mortgages, and he’ll make his next on casinos in downtown Cleveland. He sells illusions for a living, and now he’s selling the biggest of all: that he’s a victim here, that James betrayed everyone. That’s a lie, and no one ought to dare buy it.
Everyone searching for a scapegoat here – Mike Brown, Danny Ferry, Delonte West(notes) – well, just understand that it was the man screaming loudest with LeBron out the door, the man most determined to deflect blame onto him now.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert called LeBron James' decision to leave a "cowardly betrayal."
(AP Photo)
Now, Gilbert is the tough guy with James leaving the Cavs behind? Listen, Ferry and Brown always warned Gilbert that giving James everything he wanted – giving it when and where and how – wouldn’t be the way they would keep him. LeBron didn’t respect them because they never demanded it.
Gilbert always believed he should do everything James wanted – hire his buddies into jobs, throw them on summer-league rosters, allow him to do those stupid pregame choreographed dances – that James would love him, that he would never leave. Only, James is a taker, and he took and took until he had bled Gilbert and that franchise to the bone.
So now, Gilbert unleashes the most revisionist and self-serving screed that a scorned owner’s ever done. Gilbert is a bully and a baby. As much as James, Gilbert revealed himself, too. He asked for this humiliation and deserves it. Only those fans in Cleveland don’t deserve this. They were loyal, true, and ultimately they must know Gilbert lashed out to make James the villain for a most self-serving reason: to avoid the blame himself. Damn right James quit on the Cavaliers in that playoff series, but that was because Gilbert was always there to make it easy for him. All those times Ferry and Brown warned the owner they had to make stands with James, that they had to force him to have some level of respect within that organization or there would be an ultimate price to pay.
And here it came on Thursday night, in this bizarre, sad set-up that turned LeBron James into a caricature. His puppet seems more human than him. Listen, James’ people tried to leak this story to soften the blow on Cleveland, but here was the problem: He’s so insincere, and they’re so over their heads, that most of us were uneasy with believing what they were selling in the hours leading up to Jim Gray holding everyone hostage. There had to be an agenda, a bait-and-switch, and yet source after source within LeBron’s world insisted: He’s leaving. He wants out. They had been doing this for weeks, even months. So, armed with that knowledge, why would they ever stage this event to rub it in the face of James’ hometown? Lots of stars have moved on, but never one that had such a unique history with a town, a city, a franchise.
We kept writing it with qualifiers because deep down a lot of us doubted his courage to leave that cocoon. If he wants to play for the Heat, he's a FREE AGENT and he is allowed to do so
Your right and as a grown man he should have handled the situation AS A GROWN MAN and at least made a phone call to cleveland saying sorry i wont be back next year im going to miami instead of makeing a huge spectical about it and making them wait to the last minute to watch him announce it on tv

He would make Cleveland feel like it had lost him, and then swoop back into town and be celebrated all over again. Only, LeBron’s people were telling the truth. He was gone. He was always gone. He never considered staying, and that’s the most frightening part of all.
For the hand-wringing out of Gilbert and James’ apologists who protected him – and who would still be protecting him had he simply said, “Cleveland,” on Thursday night – they need to stop with this nonsense that somehow LeBron James has transformed into someone else. I understand that this is his life, his career, and this is a lifetime decision and the most difficult decision in his life. He doesn't have to be loyal to his hometown/state. He's done a lot of great things for the shitty ass state known as Ohio, more so than any one person could do.
Most people ain't mad at him for chasing the ring and understand he wants to win a title. People are upset the way he handled his business. Why drag the Cavs and their fans through the mud and basically dick slap them on national TV? Why drag them through the mud and humiliate them? Just tell the Cavs, "I ain't coming back, so plan your next season without me", go sign with another team and have the media report it. Quit this Princess drama shit. It's getting kind of ridiculous the way he handles himself.

Now that the free agency is over (for the most part).
The Lakers have an even better chance of 3 peating.
1) Both the Suns and Jazz are significantly weaker who were two of the bigger powers in the West. Lakers biggest Western conference rival is the Thunder.
2) None of the Western Conference teams got significantly better. Lakers can win the conference again.
3) The East got a whole a lot tougher and more grueling. There isn't a clear winner in the East. I expect the Eastern Conference playoffs to be long and drawn out since the top Eastern teams > Western teams overall
So I'm expecting the Lakers to cruise to the Finals while the East teams will be banged up duking it out.

You are all making it seem like he's leaving $30 million on the table. That's not the whole truth, we are talking about different length contracts 6 years/$120m vs. 5 year/$90-100 million with the Heat. With the Heat dumping Beasley, they can afford to pay Princess the max. Plus with no state tax in Miami, it's probably around the same amount over the long run even with the new CBA.

1 hour tv special, not being a good sport and not shaking hands with the Magic, covering up him getting dunked on, him talking about himself in the 3rd person, etc etc.
When he first came into the league, he handle his business maturely and better than anyone expected. But after winning a couple of MVPs and all the media hype getting in his head, we see him transforming into a particular character that turns people off.
He's young (25ish), so he is going to make an ass out of himself, much like Kobe did in his late 20's. Hopefully he can humble himself when he grows older.

I hate to see Farmar leave since he's a local LA native and balled in the Valley and at UCLA. I support locally grown talent over all transplants. Hence why I was upset things didn't work out with Ariza.
My dad (who use to coach him for a few years), is glad he's leaving the Lakers since the Triangle offense is not the best fit for his game since he needs to run and gun and the T.O. is more methodical and all about passing and spacing. T.O. players don't need to be young and athletic hence why I call it "Old man's offense".
BTW, my dad got called out by my sister and I cuz one time we opened up his wallet and did you see a picture of me or my sister? NOPE. The first picture in his wallet is a pic of him and Farmar. LOL

hot off the presses looks like a NY superteam may still happen
sports.yahoo.com
Last Saturday, while you were enjoying bratwursts and s'mores, Carmelo Anthony(notes) was marrying LaLa Vasquez, an MTV VJ. Cool weekend plans, I suppose. And since Melo is a big-time NBA baller, he attracted more than a few celebrities to his New York City nuptials. In attendance were Kim Kardashian, Spike Lee, Justin Timberlake and Ludacris, who hopefully provided entertainment during the reception. Oh, and LeBron James(notes), whom you may have heard of.
That's right — LeBron James was in New York City just two days after choosing the Miami Heat in his highly rated one-hour ESPN special. You can imagine how well that went over with Knick fans. From Fox Sports:
[LeBron] James was greeted by a round of loud boos from angry New Yorkers outside the wedding in Cipriani 42nd Street when he arrived with his girlfriend Savannah Brinson, myFOXny.com reported.
[Photos: See more from Carmelo and LaLa's celeb-studded wedding]
Geez, LeBron. Way to almost ruin your friend's wedding by choosing to play in Miami. It's like that old saying: "You made your multi-millon dollar free-agency bed, now get booed by Knick fans in it." Or something like that. LBJ might as well hear the jeers now, since he'll be getting heckled basically everywhere but Miami-Wade County. Better to start with a few scattered New Yorkers than 20,000 rabid Clevelanders who hate his guts.
Of course, if those same classy Knick fans had stuck around a little longer, they might have gotten some good news. According to the New York Post's Marc Berman, attendee Chris Paul(notes) made a pretty interesting speech at the ceremony.
During Carmelo Anthony's wedding Saturday night at Cipriani's on 42nd Street, Chris Paul, the superstar New Orleans point guard, predicted a future Knicks Dream Team. [...]
According to a person who spoke with wedding attendee Amar'e Stoudemire(notes), Paul made the reference during a speech of a potential union of himself, Stoudemire and Anthony, saying, "We'll form our own Big 3," Paul allegedly said.
[Photos: More celebs who love pro athletes]
I'm sure that won't get New York fans' hopes up for the summer of 2012. Surely they'll take this potential joining of forces in stride and not get too upset if it never comes to fruition. At least I hope that's the case because VJs don't grow on trees these days. If things change, it'd be unfortunate for Knicks fans to have to boo Chris Paul for passing Jesse Camp on the street.

Now that we signed him (agreed to) I can start ragging on him again....
3 painful more years getting burned by quick guards... LOL
I'm surprised they signed him for 3 years...dude will be 38/39 by end of his contract, but props to him to keeping with the Lakers and not going to Miami. Like I said before, Fisher thrives somewhat in the Triangle offense cuz it's a boring old man's offense that revolves around passing and spacing and not so much on isolation. If he went to Miami, he wouldn't be nearly as effective as he was for the Lakers

First, Cleveland called Him King. Second Lebron did not belong to the Cavs because he was a free agent.I blame the owner for all this because if he wanted Lebron he would have gave him a contract extension after his second year with the cavs but he didn't.So shame on the Cavs owner(who is not from cleveland) for not doing his job.
This just in Lebron counted how many titles he is going to win and the number is more then 7. Even I have to say WOW,he really is feeling his self .

The best quote i heard about the whole Lebron thing was
"That Thursday morning, he woke up as a young Michael Jordan, he went to sleep that night as a young Scottie Pippen."

Nah, I'm kidding. Nothing but love for my LA friends who have gotten to enjoy watching the Lakers get handed Game 6s and 7s against the Kings, Blazers and Celtics. They refuse to acknowledge that it happened, because that would be admitting that some of their victories have been tainted.
Game 7, Lakers/Blazers, Lakers took 21 more free throws than the Blazers.
Game 6, Lakers/Kings, Lakers took 16 more free throws than the Kings, including 27 in the 4th quarter compared to the Kings 9.
Game 7, Lakers/Celtics, Lakers took 20 more free throws than the Celtics, including 21 in the 4th compared to the Celtics 6.
But again, I'm a sore loser for pointing out REMARKABLE similarities between the Celtics game (which "wasn't fixed") and the Kings and Blazers games (that were certainly fixed and there are referees who admit to it). Anyone who looks at those numbers and can justifiably say things are on the level is mad.
I'm done with talking about this now. I won't be talking about it again.

Watch the Lakers get him for Bynum and then watch Bynum break his ankles on the first play of preseason.
Actually, CP3 to the Celtics makes the most sense. Celtics give up Rondo + Sheed's Contract + 3M and the Hornets give up Okafor and CP3. The Hornets save money w/ Sheed's contract and they get a real piece w/ Rondo.

You are saying the Lakers won critical game based solely on getting more free throws according to some stat sheet???? You know the Lakers had the most dominant hard to guard big man in the league in his prime? What was his name....oh yeah....some dude named Shaq. Lakers got more free throws all those years than all the teams, just because we had Shaq. Nobody could stop him and they had to foul him a lot so he wouldn't score an easy basket. So your conclusion of the Lakers being handed the games because Lakers got more free throws is supported by very weak arguments.

Barnes is a good pickup since he's a scrappy lanky defender. He'll be a backup for Artest and Kobe.
Between Kobe, Artest and Barnes, they should be able to defend the league's elite 2's and 3's.
However, I honestly was hoping for Raja Bell over Barnes, and T-Mac over all of them for shits n giggles
The two noticeable weak spots right now are: Lakers will be getting burned by quick PGs still and Lakers are still weak on outside shooting.

Lakers struggle against portland and okc, true no argument there. But it will take more than just speed to win a ballgame against the Lakers, specially now with their added pieces coming off the bench.
Orlando's game is going through Howard and kicking it out to the 3pts shooters, no real quickness threat there.
Boston is a bit different offensively due to Rondo but their defense has won their games more so than their quickness.

In just two years as general manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves, David Kahn has continually followed up some baffling personnel decisions by making weird comments better-suited for online message boards than for press conferences. He continues to claim that Ricky Rubio is coming to the NBA any day now even when no such hard evidence exists, he praised archetypal bust Darko Milicic as "manna from heaven," and he welcomed Michael Beasley(notes) to Minnesota by saying his problems in Miami stemmed from smoking too much weed. At this point in his GM career, Kahn is not just someone who makes mistakes with the press -- he's reckless and doesn't think about potential consequences before he speaks.
But Kahn is a perfectionist, so it should come as no surprise that he followed up Tuesday night's NBA Draft Lottery with perhaps the most foolish comments of his professional life.
In case you missed it, the Wolves entered the lottery with a 25 percent chance at nabbing the top pick in the draft and came out of it with the second-overall pick. Given some previous cases of lottery bad luck -- like, say, last season's 12-win Nets ending up with the No. 3 pick -- the Wolves came out OK. The Cleveland Cavaliers, the team with the second-worst record in the league during the 2010-11 campaign, finished with the top pick, albeit by way of the pick they received in trade with the eighth-worst Los Angeles Clippers. It was a moment of great fortune for the Cavs and franchise representative Nick Gilbert, the 14-year-old son of owner Dan Gilbert who has had to deal with neurofibromatosis, a terrible nervous disorder that causes benign and malignant tumors to grow randomly in all parts of the body, for his entire life. It's a great story for a kid and franchise who can use some good luck.
Don't tell that to Kahn, though, because he hinted that he was the victim of underhanded dealings. From Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press:
"This league has a habit, and I am just going to say habit, of producing some pretty incredible story lines," Kahn said. "Last year it was Abe Pollin's widow and this year it was a 14-year-old boy and the only thing we have in common is we have both been bar mitzvahed. We were done. I told Kevin [O'Connor of Utah]: 'We're toast.' This is not happening for us and I was right."
Yeah, widows and sick kids get all the luck.
To Kahn's credit, he gave another post-lottery interview in which he seemed to suggest that ill fortune is sometimes the way of the world. But those comments don't change the fact that he also issued the quote above, which reads more like the paranoid fantasy of a bratty child than what you'd expect from a high-profile NBA executive whose team earned a pick generally in line with what the lottery odds suggested they would. Plus, the Wolves didn't even have the league's worst record last year; that would be the aforementioned Nets. If Kahn cares so much about wronged parties, shouldn't he be going to bat for Mikhail Prokhorov instead of complaining about his own rotten deal?
Kahn didn't explicitly say that he's the victim of a conspiracy, but the "and I am just going to say habit" portion of his quote suggests that he's dealing in euphemism to avoid a fine. Lottery conspiracy theories are nothing new -- some people still believe that David Stern dipped an envelope in tartar sauce in 1985 to ensure that the Knicks would win the right to select Patrick Ewing. But general managers typically have the good sense to shut their mouths and not complain in public in a manner typically associated with annoying fans who hide behind a cloak of Internet anonymity.
To make this story even sillier, Stern put in a good word with Wolves owner Glen Taylor to help his friend Kahn get the Wolves job in 2009. Why, exactly, would Stern change course and doom Kahn to the ignominy of picking second in the draft? Does he not want to make it appear like he plays favorites?
There are many bad general managers in the league, of which Kahn is arguably the worst on the merits, or lack thereof, of his personnel decisions. However, what makes him a truly odious figure is that he regularly acts with a level of arrogance that suggests he thinks he's entitled to success. Being an NBA general manager is a tough job that requires patience, hard work, and an ability to roll with several cases of bad luck. Sadly, after two years on the job, Kahn has proven that he doesn't have the temperament to succeed in the job. How much longer can Taylor and the Minnesota fanbase stand him?
