What you didn't get from iPhone OS 4!!!

2Cuchi 1:42 PM 23 June 2010
Mass storage mode: We would've liked to see an easier way to just drag and drop files from our computer to the iPhone without having to go through a third-party app.
Tethering with AT&T: Yes, we know this is already possible with the current OS, but AT&T in the U.S. hasn't gotten onboard with it yet (tethering is currently available in other countries like Canada and the U.K.). We were hoping we would hear more about it at the event, but no dice there.
Audio profiles: It would have been nice if the iPhone had different audio profiles for different environments that you could easily switch between.
Flash support in Safari: Yeah, this was a pie-in-the-sky wish, but we know a lot of you out there wanted it.
FM radio: Another one that was highly unlikely, but again, we know there are some who want it.
Wi-Fi syncing: We would've really liked it if we could sync or back up our information on the iPhone over Wi-Fi instead of having to plug in our USB cable.
Built-in photo editing: We know you can get third-party photo editors on the iPhone but it would be nice to have a built-in one as well.
Printer support: This is a little more relevant to the iPad, but we also wished iPhone OS 4 would provide some printer driver support, which would be very helpful for printing out documents and notes.
Multiple notification bar: On Android, there is a handy pull-down area where you can see all of your recent notifications, like for your new messages or new voice mails. It would be nice to see that on the iPhone as well.
Dj-M.Bezzle 3:11 PM 23 June 2010

Like I said... the Evo is just superior.

sixxx 4:39 PM 23 June 2010
Evo (Android 2.1 With Sense)

Mass storage mode: As soon as you plug the USB cord in to charge, it gives you the option to charge it, mount the drive or I forgot the other 2 choices.
.
Tethering: Possible without 3rd party applications.

Audio profiles: Don't really understand that one so no idea if the Android has this
.
Flash support: No doubt.

FM Radio: Built-In... and I know what the iPhone nuck lickers will say - Why when they have the iTunes.... lol

Wi-Fi syncing: All info is automatically saved to Google. (Data that matters anyway such as contacts, etc.).

Built-in photo editing: I think it's 3rd party for Android as well.

Printer support: I don't think this is needed for either the iPhone or Android (iPad, yes)

Multiple notification bar: On Android, there is a handy pull-down area where you can see all of your recent notifications, like for your new messages or new voice mails. It would be nice to see that on the iPhone as well. THIS IS INDEED AN AWESOME FEATURE.

yup, another thing people overlook is the droid has several different iterations of the operating system floating around and of all the apps and features mentioned not all the phones have all of them so your comparing one phone and its collection of apps and software to 15 different phones which can each do a piece of what that one thing is doing. The reason ill most likley stay with the iphone is the same reason im getting more into macs now in general, since their writing one piece of software (OS, apps ect) for one piece of hardware they can fine tune and test it as well as make it more user friendly. Vs having to write a piece of software that has to be corsscompadable between 4 open source OS iterations and 15 pieces of varying hardware

speaking as someone whos working on programming his own apps i like that the iphone dosent give you everything straight from the box, 1st not everyone needs all that, 2nd making them avalible only through 3rd party apps you encourage the develop community to get active and program these things...also filters funds down the pipe to private developers and dosent keep everything in apples hands

roughly 1mb per minute, if i remember correctly. works fine on 3g too.

sucks now that at&t will be introducing limited data plans for new accounts.

and yes, it should be fine making vid calls to people on skype....with the skype user at home on their computer. so evo users aren't limited to other evo callers...and from anywhere they have 3g/4g signal.
DJLRock 8:31 PM 24 June 2010
apple is not locking down facetime. they created it as an open format for others to develop with.
skinnyguy 10:29 PM 24 June 2010
so they can say they created the standard?

why not go with skype's format? fring does it. or qik? or aim? or google chat? (maybe they don't like google...hmm.) or i guess nobody is good enough for them, as usual.

it is nice that it's open though. but for now, they're only open to other iphone users. is it even compatible with ichat users? i hope so..

I think that's usually why people stay with the iPhone and why Droid users are choosing to stay with it once they try it (or switch from the iPhone). It's usually about being comfortable with the operating system. Kinda like how PC users who never tried the Mac don't want to even think of it but once they try it. They like it. The droid OS is solid.

As far as the applications, you'd be surprise how many apps exist for droid. And, you gotta remember, there's a ton of shitty ones that no one even cares for. I can almost guaranteed you that all the good ones are available for both OS's.

Oh wait, iPhone doesn't have Swype. :P

And I am saying I pretty sure, their will be a "fix" where you don't have to accept the update... The jailbreak community always comes through... The are a couple of dude in their moms basement working on this right now...

The last time apple made it so that you couldn't jailbreak the 3gs, hackers cracked that. Then they made a modified 3gs(the one I own) which if you jailbreak it and the power goes off you can't turn the phone back on- you will only get the apple logo. Your only recourse was to hook the phone back to the pc and run the jailbreak software if you accidentality turned off your phone.
Now guess what, the hackers recently fixed that too. Now I can turn off my phone and boot it back up with no problems..

+1, im not ignoring facts or making excuses im simply stating the fact, as someone who has owed several jailbroken products, that each time a new iphone comes out they make a big announcment that it cant be jailbroken.....and soon after that someone comes up with a way to jailbrake it. Whatever apple did to make you accept the update is a software thing, thats what jailbrakeing does it circumvents the software to make it do what you want it to do

Yes but noones arguing that G1 and EVO are andriod phones or that android is the operating system we all know this. The issue is with why someone who is happy with their purchase feels the need to jump around and try and prove why their phone is better, WHO CARES, I like my iphone i really enjoy using it, you like your evo you enjoy using it, case closed end of discussion, theres no point in trying to prove your phones better because people want different things out of the phone and even if your phones 10 times better WHO CARES, Their both bad ass phones why nickel and dime em.

I get a phone that does what i need it to do, i dont buy it because i have to have the best overall ever phone just so i can say i have the best phone, nobody cares what phone your using and if your doing it to always have the best your always gonna be behind because better phones drop like every 6 months now. I for one am not gonna be droppin hundreds of dollars and carrier hopping every 6 months so i can say i have ____ phone on an internet forum.

This is what happens when you jump in the middle of someone else's discussion without actually thinking. RoggerRabbit, in fact, was arguing that These android phones aren't standing the test of time....

See? Right there he had it wrong. Who cares about the actual phone. The operating system is that matters. Think Macbook and Macbook Pro. Or, think of those PC's that run the Mac OS. Look at it that way.

The android, the operating system, is what matters here. And, the argument was with RoggerRabbit.

So, in fact, when you said noone you really should say that YOU are not arguing that.

Why do Android users insist on bashing iPhone folks instead of just enjoying their phones? iPhone users weren't bashing anyone when their phone came out. Simply just exclaimed how much we enjoy our phones. Android users don't even talk about enjoying their phone, they just talk about the iPhone all the time.

Yes but the way the operating system interacts with the hardware in the acutual phone IS an issue and overall their not standing up to the test of time. You have the latest and greatest so you dont realise this but with android being spread across so many devices (more than the 2 you listed) you are running into the same issue you have with windows, you have different hardware standards being run of the same os...you have OS updates being put out with the newest phones in mind and stepping on the older and cheaper models, also you have issues with what OS integration is being run ono the phone since its an open source where are the iphone knows EXACTLY what hardware its dealing with and their OS reflects that

Bezzle. Really. You should not argue the things you know nothing about.

Some of the android updates are NOT for the older phones and WILL NOT update older phones. <---- First point.

Yes but the way the operating system interacts with the hardware in the acutual phone IS an issue <--- Nope. It's not. No android phone has issues because of it's operating system. At least not the ones I've seen or owned. <-- Second point.

Let's look at it this way. Apple has had updates to their products that have fucked up their own product. That's a fact. <---- Third point.

So you see? You're whole argument is... well, done.

How do i jailbreak mine all the time?? I jailbroke it 1 time and its worked great since then and the jailbreak dosent put a different OS on the phone it just allows the OS to be run.

Yes because as you stated they dont get to update with the OS...so you buy a phone and a new OS dosent come out and you cant use the features of the new OS ...FAIL
sixxx 4:59 PM 1 July 2010
No. You know what is fail?

CONSUMER vs CUSTOMER. hahahaha
sixxx 5:10 PM 1 July 2010
Let's put an end to this because I'm getting tired of winning all these points. :)

With every phone that comes out, technology gets better. That's a fact.
No phone will EVER pass the test of time. Otherwise, every iPhone user who wants facechat (for instance) wouldn't have to upgrade.

So, in fact, the iPhone is ALSO not passing the test of time.

Those are facts.

------

Now, let's look at it from the other point of view. Just because you have a phone with new features coming out, doesn't mean your phone automatically stops working. So, I upgraded out of the G1 not because it became obsolete, but rather because the Evo had more features I wanted (and I was getting tired with T-Mobile). Simple. Just like most previous iPhone users are jumping to the new iPhone 4 because they want some of the new features and they've been waiting for the iPhone to go to Verizon.

So you see... we're all just about the same.

Is the Evo better than the iPhone 4? Yes.

Will the Evo be better than another phone in the future? Nope. I'm sure either a new Evo will come out or another phone will come out that surpasses it. But, I doubt it will be the iPhone. The fact is the iPhone, any version of the iPhone has been behind the curve. That's why I have never once owned one. Because, after getting my hands on one, it just doesn't do the things I want it to do.
sixxx 5:12 PM 1 July 2010
And, RapeT&T was something I never wanted. This is why if you look around, you may find threads where I'm asking about getting an iPhone and jailbreaking it so I could use it with T-Mobile. But, it's just not worth the hassle.

Also, it's not worth waiting for the middle man (hackers) to update firmware, or whatever.
CMOS 5:39 PM 1 July 2010
My biggest gripe with the Andriod phones right now is that every week there is a new "king of the android market". I think the oversaturation of the android market will hurt it as it confuses people who arent tech savy.

They are progressing so rapidly that most normal people wont know what to buy, where as with the iphone you really have only 1 choice. Ive used a fwe android phones and while some features are better, each phone ive used had a completely different user interface.

I think the android market needs to standardize a bit to make using these phones easy for people. Remember, everyone on this forum is pretty tech savvy, give both phones to your grandma and she will have an easier time with the iphone IMO.

Oh, the iPhone 4. The only "smartphone" that isnt smart enough to let you make phone calls. Cant make a call? You must be holding it wrong. Should have gotten a BlackBerry or an Android phone you suckers. iPhone sucks. Its a big pile of overpriced crap. Take a crappy cell phone, and a low end iPod, give it a horrible interface, and there you have the iPhone.

Its just a pile of garbage. Why would you want to combine an iPod and a phone? Are you going to listen to music on it while you have a conversation? Its just another excuse for Steve Jobs to try to get you idiots to buy more of his overpriced crap. And the iPhone interface is just awful. Try typing or text messaging on one, lets see how long it takes before you just want to launch it out a window. No physical keyboard, just touch? Just plain stupid. It drops calls constantly, and the sound quality is terrible. If you drop it more than an inch, it explodes into pieces, the damn thing is made of toothpicks.

Proprietary software means you have to use iTunes (which is also terrible) to put music on it. Apps, ringtones and everything have the price jacked way up. Apple is screwing you because they trapped you. You bought their shitty phone and now you're stuck with it. And not to mention the fact that Apple is constantly releasing "updates" to the software so it locks down your phone if you've unlocked it. What a crock of bullshit. The iPhone is just terrible. No, its not that I can't afford one, I just don't need to spend 500 dollars on a designer pile of crap so I can impress my friends. You arent impressing anyone, we're all laughing at you. If they stamped an Apple logo on a steaming mound of dog shit, I bet all of you iPhone lovers would buy it. I'll stick to my Evo, where I actually get what I'm paying for instead of getting a railroad spike up the ass. F@ck Apple and f@ck iPhone.

Do you really think he uses the same phone that everyone else can buy? I bet he doesnt even have a cell... everything is linked for him. he gets in his car and it has apple's integrated cell phone system. goes home and everything is all integrated. he gets a text message and he just faces his palm up and displays...

So it doesn't seem like a software patch will resolve what appears to be a hardware design flaw. IF Apple makes a revised phone, will the early birds get a refund?
Rebelguy 5:21 PM 2 July 2010
I am still lost about the point of this thread. Regardless of all the complaints made here the iphone 4 will outsell the Evo or any other Android phone. Android phones as a collective is a different story. Yes there are reception issues but most people will just put a case on it and the problem is solved.

The majority of people do not care about the issues the OP made. The iphone is an all-in-one unit and people love it for that.

Quote:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Apple Inc. said Friday that it was "stunned" to find that its iPhones have for years been using a "totally wrong" formula to determine how many bars of signal strength they are getting.

Apple said that's the reason behind widespread complaints from users that the latest model, iPhone 4, can show a sudden plunge in signal strength when they hold it in a way that covers a small black strip on one edge of the phone. Users online have jokingly called this the "death grip" for the phone.

That drop seems exaggerated because the phone can wrongly display four or five bars of signal strength when it shouldn't, Apple said.

"Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place," the company said in a letter to users.

Apple launched the iPhone 4 on June 24 in the U.S. and four other countries.

Some outside engineers and users have blamed the iPhone 4's apparent reception problems on the novel design that incorporates its antenna into the case. But the company said that any phone will show reduced reception if held in a way that covers the antenna, usually mounted at the rear and bottom of a phone. It maintains that iPhone 4's wireless performance is better than previous models. And it said the incorrect signal-strength formula existed in the original iPhone, launched in 2007.

Apple, which is based in Cupertino, Calif., said it will fix its signal strength formula to conform to other AT&T phones through a free software update for iPhone models 3G, 3Gs and 4 within a few weeks.

"We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see," Apple said.

Despite recurring complaints about dropped calls and slow data service, particularly in the U.S., the iPhone is a standout success, with each model selling faster than the previous one. Apple said it sold 1.7 million iPhone 4s in its first three days, essentially running out of stock.

AT&T Inc., the exclusive iPhone carrier in the U.S., has faced much of the users' blame for dropped calls and poor wireless performance. Apple apologized to customers Friday "for any anxiety we may have caused."

Correct. This is what I wrote in the other thread regarding Apple's latest bullshit.

If you read all of the above, you will see the following:

a) Apple is trying to pass the blame to AT&T.
b) Apple has been fuckin' their customers by hiding the truth. All the iPhones have been shown more bars than they actually had. Remember AT&T and all those commercials where they advertised "More bars, etc."? Oh yeah.

But the biggest slap in the face to Apple's customers is that they're still not wanting to admit that it is A DESIGN FLAW on the new iPhone. It has been proven over and over by people (iPhone users) and by nerd techies.

The issue isn't "how shitty the iPhone is", is how Apple misleads and plainly lies to its customers. And, how blind those people are. Yeah. I said those people. lol

And it's common sense that I was reffering to the idiot iphone fanboys you dispise.People who are switching between android or iphone obviously dont give a shit about either cults and just want to go with their preffered phone.

Fuck the iphone and fuck the EVO seriously.Just give me a good phone like either one of them with at least the option of a physical keyboard and Ill be happy.I hate this touch screen keyboard shit.Thats really my only beef with the iphone.Im not getting reception issues or yellow screen or whatever so Im cool. And the fact the i got my phone for free is even better so maybe thats why i feel this is blow out of controll.

What about all the EVO screens that were falling apart? Conveniently forgotten? But who care's?Im sure it didnt affect every EVO.But even if EVO were the better phone, what do you get out of proving it.Are you getting paid to do so?Shit, sign me up then and I'll jump on the bandwagon!

Seriously, what is your agenda here with the whole phone thing. Why does it bother you so much about people who choose the iphone?Im just trying to understand this personally.Me personally, I dont get offended because people dont choose the iphone but I do get a little deffensive when somone disses my personality for choosing the phone.Thats becomes a personal attack and for what?A damn phone?

Iphone users are on the deffensive here while EVO users are on an all out attack for supremacy in the mobilephone world.

Just like you know iphone users that went to EVO and so do I,I personally know plenty of EVO owners that already jumped ship and got an iphone 4. Give me an EVO on maybe Verizon and I will consider it.But I just refuse to go to sprint

Droid gives you more openness but in a phone this doesnt work for me. I need simple stupid on my mobile device. The proximity sensor is cool. I liked the first time I noticed it on the Evo. My girl thought it was a cool feature too.

I've had bad experiences with HTC handsets (Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2) to just jump back into a 2 year contract.

True fanboy right there.....

So, you're saying that why upgrade from the first iPhone? Oh wait... that's right... there's an iPhone 4 now.....

Just because there is a new HTC phone (and a bunch of them out there) doesn't make the old ones obsolete. Just, like the new iPhone doesn't make the old ones obsolete. But, the new features on every new phone are very nice.

the difference between the 2 is even if you have the 1st gen iphone you can still have the same brand new fixed OS that the 4 gets...HTC not so much, have an older HTC, sure it will work you just get forgotten about software wise and get stuck at a forgotten android platform

Just watched the official video from consumer reports... they show you where to place duct tape on the iphone 4 to help eliminate dropped calls. LMAO.

yes but bezzle also knows that certian handsets are not compadible with certin makes of the android OS, so once you handset isnt the hot thing ont he market the OS is going to leave you in the dust on an older platform...thats why when you shop for android phones it lets you know which makes of android are for that device
sixxx 8:01 PM 13 July 2010
There's a reason for that.... some Androids aren't touch phones. Duh... hahaha

talk about behind the times, all the iphones are touch screen

MUAHAHAHAH
sixxx 8:06 PM 13 July 2010
They're all touch screens...

The updates are released according to the capability of the phone. For instance, I know the update for the iPhone 4 would be modified for the original iPhone since the original and the 3GS don't have facetime, etc.

So, all the iPhone updates don't work on all the phones. Just like all the Apple updates for Mac aren't compatible with all the macbooks, macbook pros, etc. out there...

get it now?

:)
djbriguy 8:06 PM 13 July 2010
personally, i hate touch screen phones... well... I have the HD2 and love every feature of the phone, except texting and sending emails. It has swype and other variations of qwerty keyboards... but nothing can replace a physical keyboard.
sixxx 8:07 PM 13 July 2010
Yup. Nothing can replace a physical keyboard. Swype is the shit... but still don't like typing on it like I used to type on the actual physical keyboard of the g1. I miss it. :(

Exactly. I loved the sidekick back in the days. It was so much easier to type without looking at it.... you can just feel the keys just like a regular keyboard. :)

I’ve only had the Droid X for a few days but I’ve had the iPod Touch for a few months.
The differences that I’ve noticed are, that the iPod/iPhone is better organized.

On my iPod Touch, I have separate mailboxes for my email addresses. I have my pictures organized in separate events; I can see which video I want to play without having to read the title. Music, playlist, artist and songs are organized a lot better. The Calendar, for me is essential. The iPod Touch calendar isn’t great, but it’s a lot better than the one that came with my Android phone. I can easily search for a future date to see if I’m booked or not.

Maybe I just need to find better apps on the droid phone. With the iPhone, I don’t need to look for apps for my basic business needs. They come preinstalled and works extremely well.

What I like about the Droid is: I can download and upload to any computer, Swype, no need for iTunes and I can stay with Verizon.
sixxx 2:39 PM 4 August 2010
You just need to get used to the Droid OS. I have separate mailboxes for my email addresses as well. Pictures can also be organized easily. You just need to know how to do all of the above. If you're migrating from one system to the other (iPhone to Droid or viceversa) is going to take some time to get used to.

That Calendar in the droid is the best. Remember, it's a google phone. You can do everything on a computer and it will sync to your phone, or vice versa. The best thing is having all my info online even if my phone gets lost, I haven't lost anything important.
Kenny Q 5:00 PM 4 August 2010
Google Calendar online on a computer is great and better than iCal. But I haven't been able to easily find dates on Calendar App. For example, say I want to enter information about a party on June 30 2012 at 5pm. I haven't found a way to go to that date without flipping through every month.
If you know an easier way or a better Calendar app. Please let me know.

on my evo I just open the calendar go to menu, more then goto
Kenny Q 6:57 PM 4 August 2010
I don’t see that option at all under my menu.
Kenny Q 7:05 PM 4 August 2010
When I go to Calendar / menu, I only get "My calendars" and settings" as options.
sixxx 2:45 AM 5 August 2010
1. Open Calendar
2. Click Menu button
3. You will see a few options:

Agenda
Day
Week
New Event
Today
More

If you click on Agenda, it will basically show all the stuff that's on your calendar. Click on that and it takes you to the month that it's on.
sixxx 2:46 AM 5 August 2010
To see the Go to... click on the three (Or four dots) that's the "more" option.
sixxx 2:46 AM 5 August 2010
But, clicking on Agenda is the easiest way to navigate through your events. :)
Kenny Q 8:02 PM 5 August 2010
I don't have "go to" in my calendar. Nor do I have the 3 (or 4) dots. Maybe the Droid X comes with a different. Calendar.
Steve Dub. 9:13 PM 5 August 2010
I have the same thing in my calendar on the incredible.
Steve Dub. 9:15 PM 5 August 2010
In regards to the agenda in calendar.
Kenny Q 9:33 PM 5 August 2010
I have the agenda on my calendar but I would rather use "Go to". To me, It's better to search for something you got booked in 2012 or later using "go to" instead of flicking through the agenda.
DJ Josh V 9:45 PM 5 August 2010
I dont see whats the point of this thread anymore but anyway, This new blackberry thats coming out had my attention with the touch screen/real keyboard but the VGA video then turned me away.

I used to have this dope one called Glass Orb on my 3GS with a video wallpaper. Aslo dont forget ,MyWi for Tethering and My3G or 3GUnresticter. To me these are essential.

LOL, Actually the lock is actually a fail if you know your way around the phone.Like you can easliy get into the photo through the camara app or through the wallpaper setting area so you have to lock everything.

I just hate when you show a person a photo on your phone, they can't help but to start scrolling to seen what else you got on there.I cant stand that shit, lol.
