Bfocused 8:26 AM - 6 January, 2007
Im a mobile hip hop dj with hundreds of records that I want to transfer.Whats the best laptop and why?
Dj onyx 3:49 PM - 6 January, 2007
Just buy the one you can afford. Most of the processors now are fast and you can't go wrong with a brand name.
dj shadow from detroit 5:06 PM - 6 January, 2007
dont but celeron!
buy a dual core 2
amd dual core
or a pentium m
with atleast a gig of ram
i suggest pc------dell
because i been using one for over two year's!
(( what ever pc or mac there both good with serato ))
jkar 6:15 PM - 6 January, 2007
whoa dude. you need an apple. macbook or macbook pro..i recently switched froma PC in august to a macbook pro and i love it. plus the have the new intels in them and are super fast. go apple for sure. quality products
jkar 6:16 PM - 6 January, 2007
dells suck, no offense shadow
dj shadow from detroit 9:10 PM - 6 January, 2007
how do dell suck?
i been using one for over two year's with not one problem!

every company has a computer that might not be good for serato!

i would put a dell against your mac any day!
for the money you get more when you buy a pc
dell's xps series laptop's blow mac away!
get a macpro for like $2,500
((for what)) serato dont need that!
go get a dell for 1,000 dollar's
with a intel duo
1gig of ram (((expandable to 2gig's)))
120 gig internal hard drive
and a 15 inch screen
you cant beet that!
i never heard of anyone having problem's with a dell (as long as your running the spec's for serato)
i have a dell that's 4 year's old
p 4 2.0ghz
1 gig of ram
60 gb internal
15 in screen
and this thing run's flawless
i could not imagine getting a new dell intel duo that has better spec's exspecially for a $1,000
i feel mac's are overratted.
i know 10 dj's using a pc that are happy
i know 1 person that has a mac that is happy
im not a dell sales person
all im saying is you do not need to spend over $1,000 for a laptop!
you cant get a mac for under 1,000
that has good spec's.
jkar if anyone spend's over a 1,000 for a laptop for serato they have alot of money ((which is good)) but not just for serato!
google--------deals
and the first 4 site's that come up will have great deal's on new laptop's!
((you never see apple on there))

Absolutely agree. Great support from Dell, but weak product quality.
j cue 11:24 PM - 6 January, 2007
i dunno,,, i seen so many posts on here from mac users with the strangest problems,, problems i have never heard of with pc's.
im using a lenovo s180 pc,, not a powerful machine by any standards.
pentium m. only 512 ram,, but works real nice,,and was only around 500 pounds uk stg new!
it took me a while to conquer the usb drop out problem, but now she sings like an angel.buffer is allways at zero.
and alot of mac users i know, jumped on the band wagon of thinking macs were just more superior,,full stop,, are allways bitching to me about serato crashing,, freezing,,,doing cartwheels onstage if they tax it too hard etc..
gimme my lil lenovo pc anyday!
i say go with a pc,, easier to correct if something does goes wrong,, cheaper, and generally more peace of mind from what i can tell.

don't start a new PC vs. MAC discussion please ;)
Let's agree that it's a question of taste!

ive had a dell inspiron for about a year, and (knocks on wood) have had no problems with it, except for me shutting serato down wrong, but other than that....my dell is good....just dont use it to get on the internet and u will be fine...do all of ur downloading from ur home computer, thats what i do....
tekwun 1:53 AM - 7 January, 2007
but long story short, buy what ever is in your budget....if ur mac crashes, you'll be sorry u spent 2500!!!!

You don't buy a Mac just to use SSL. You buy a Mac for the amazing software that comes with it, the professional software like Logic Pro, the ease of use, the ability to browse the web and not get viruses, and the best reason of all, you don't need Microsoft Windows!!

Macs aren't just about specs, they are about the total package. Buy a Mac, and you won't be disappointed!!

My 2 cents.

This months it is the month of bugs for apple. Each day a new bug/exploit will be released. There have already been released a few severe security holes. Macs are not more secure per se. Thats a lie.

nik39, what are you talking about ??

Show me some links to prove what you say is true, otherwise stop making sh*t up.
Konix 5:03 PM - 8 January, 2007
Well, there was 2 security updates when I ran software updates last week on my Macbook.
HeaVyyNeSsS 7:38 PM - 8 January, 2007
Even so and comparably a mac is a better deal in the long run currently, above purchasing a pc. For me the deal closer was boot-camp, i now own a macbook pro, and have a refurb macbook on the way that i got for 799. Much better deal than I could find on any pc with the same specs, and why would I get a pc with the same specs when I could get a mac, have the flexibility of mac, linux, and windows at my fingertips. While there may be some security holes, comparably the Mac smacks the PC with its low number of treats to its operating system. We could argue for days, but a macbook- not pro, can stand up to many of dells, high end machines, and a macbook pro, is a great value vs pc, due to its flexibility and preloaded software.
Konix 7:48 PM - 8 January, 2007
Oh I'm not arguing here. I prefer Mac to PC any day. Ever since I bought my Macbook in August, I've came to the conclusion that I will not ever buy another PC laptop again.

What reasons would I have to make shit up? I own a mac myself.

Google is also your friend, just enter "month of bugs apple".

nik39, I use a Mac daily, and have never heard about these "threats". I google searched it before posting, and came up with nothing of the sort. Anyway, you have provided with some links, well done. Personally, I think Apple will take care of it, and lets enjoy the good times of stable and secure Macs.

You can get a great Mac like the Macbook for $1200 and it is more than enough power to run ssl

No offense, but the fact that you havent heard of something doesnt mean that they it is not existent ;) Here we have the proof.

mac and pc have there goood and bad!
but for the money i rather get a pc.

I agree with Shadow, Mac and pc have there ups and downs, but I think to spend a little more on a mac now a days is worthe it just because of the fact that I trust OSX over Windows any day, Plus if you HAD to, you can run xp on a mac and easily switch back and forthe between xp and OSX. This is just my opinion,,,I think overall, Go with what you know better, If shit goes down at a gig, you want to be able to fix it as easily and quick as possible

Good lookin on the advice! Im still a little undecided, but leaning towards a Mac. Most of the top rated djs use Macs....Craze...Jazzy Jeff and so on.

It's your money, you can buy what you prefer.

im usin a compaq with core 2 duo processor with 2gig of memory.. got no problem with it
Loopman 4:12 PM - 17 January, 2007
if you want to buy a pc laptop I would recommend IBM/Lenovo.. I am sure most pcs are plenty good enough but what ibm has over dell and most other laptop makers is the durabilty, they can take a knock and still work. Their caseings etc are much better then dell, hp etc etc.. and for me that is really important, a laptop that can handle something going wrong when going from dj booth to dj booth..

I've had a Mac Powerbook for not quite 2 years, not one problem. Prior to that, I had Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop and had nothing but trouble on it with Serato (frequent audio dropouts). At the time, the Serato team couldn't figure it out (hence the reason for the mac purchase), it was since determined to be the ACPI power problem (scratchlive.net) but at the time this was happening the problem was not yet discovered. Trust me, there is nothing in the digital DJ age more embarrassing than audio dropouts at a big gig... :(

I'm not trying to sway anyone one way or the other, I'm just sharing my experience but I would like to add that all of my West Coast DJ homies including AM, Vice, Spider, Steve1der, Spryte, Homicide, Graham Funke, Stonerokk, Steve Aoki, Echo, Big Syphe & Eric D-Lux, DJ Five, etc. ALL USE MACS and there haven't been ANY issues. Just something to think about.

I've been a PC user my entire life and do all my production work on a PC still to this day but, for serato, I wouldn't trade my Mac for anything.
wakka 3:17 AM - 19 January, 2007
IBM Lenovo ThinkPads for the freakin' win.

That's a stupid reason to buy expensive electronics.
