Do Jet Li/Jackie Chan vs 10 guys type fights happen in real life?

djchriscruz 6:01 PM 16 June 2010
Last week I was bored and tried to look up youtube clips of real life kungfu martial arts masters beating up a group of guys like Jet Li does in the movies. Suprisingly there's nothing.

It made me think that kung fu with flying kicks and back flips doesn't really work. If MMA is truly mixed martial arts then Kung Fu is just for show.
DJ_SCOOBY 7:16 PM 16 June 2010
naw...its just common sense. I doubt any real person or group off people would attempt to commit suicide getting their ass whooped

You could always go to a kung fu school with a group of friends and start shit with an instructor. Let me know how it works out. Haha

^^that shit would probably be the next "charlie bit my finger" viral hit if dude could kick all our asses at once.
skinnyguy 8:08 PM 16 June 2010
are there even clips of an mma fighter taking on 10 opponents all at once?

in real life, all 10 would attack and mob the lone defender. basically a lynching. mma fighter, kung fu master, or whatever, most likely that person is going down.
djchriscruz 8:12 PM 16 June 2010
It doesn't have to be an MMA fighter. I just want to see a real life clip of a single dude beating up a group of guys like Jet Li does in the movies.
SELECT 8:22 PM 16 June 2010
LOL, its the movies... that shit would never happen in real life.

Kung Fu is a martial art and can be used to defend one self just like any other form of fighting. You cant say something is better than another, its all depends on the fighter and situation. Look at Machida and his Karate moves, knocked out Rashad Evans.

I actually wished the UFC would go back to its original days when you had black belts vs wrestlers vs boxers vs kickboxers, etc.. It was more entertaining. Now everyone does mixed martial arts. Its basically become one style of fighting. Its cool dont get me wrong, I love it, but its like you almost know what to expect now.

ive seen plenty of those, ill post some up when i get off work, but typically there tends to be a common thread in those videos where its basically a group of frat boy types bein dicks thinkin the guy their messin with wont do shit because of the group......and he DOES lol

In alot of the martial arts styles theres alot of stuff that is for exposition only and not practical for real life. For example drunkin boxing IS a fighting style but if isnt something you would want to do in a bar fight, you would do it in a martial arts comp as a show. Alot of the styles have alot of stuff that is for show in general, which is what bruce lee tried to eliminate.

To put in in perspective, think of DJing, It started out as a way to just play music to people then people started adding showmanship eliments to it, next thing you know you have dj compititions with people playing turtables blindfolded scratching with their dick with the tables balanced on a pencil. Thats all great for show but it really dosent translate well into a normal club gig.

Yea man the old school UFC days were awesome. Like Tae Kwon Do vs Boxer. Then Royce Gracie straight up dominated EVERYBODY. Opponents were on the ground like WTF! Is he doing!?? Now MMA is a style of fighting of primarily jujitsu and boxing

Warning - This is going to ruin every martial arts movie for you for the rest of your life.

If you pay attention to all of Jackie Chan's movies, he is never actually fighting more than 1 or 2 people at a time. Most of the screen is taken up by Jackie and his current enemy in the foreground and this is what draws your attention. You can see the the people moving in the background in your peripheral vision, maybe even looking like they're trying to punch Jackie from a distance but since normally you don't focus on them, you don't notice what they're actually doing.

What they are actually doing is moving left and right over and over and swinging their arms a bit like they're fighting but essentially, not doing anything! Then when Jackie finishes one dude, another one from the background will jump in. It continues like this until all the guys are defeated.

If in real life 10 guys wanted to kick your ass, theyd all be on you at the same time and youd be fucked up.

All this is from a documentary by Jackie Chan about his martial arts stunts. Don't remember what its called. Only problem is, once you watch it and start paying attention to who the director doesn't want you paying attention to, you see all the stupid shit these background actors are doing.
Banana_Peter 12:48 AM 25 July 2010
It's all choreographed, it's not even a real fight. They rehearse the fight scenes over and over.

Does kung fu even work in real life?

I was thinking if MMA is truly "mixed martial arts" then Kung Fu doesn't work at all. If it did we'd see flying round house kicks
