Can You Split Your iTunes Library?

funk21 11:16 AM - 27 December, 2006
Holiday Greetings,

I'm just wondering if anybody can answer a quick question for me. I've got a G4 Powerbook and the hard drive is nearly topped out. I've got a lot of music that is just personal listening( i.e. I Don't Play Out) and I'm just wondering if I was to purchase an external drive can I seperate my iTunes library into two Library's? Keeping the tunes I use with SSL on the hardrive (in Lap Top) and the listeing material on the external?. I'm not much of a tech guy as you can tell and I've never used an external HD.

Thanks
Ben

P.S. People are going to hate me but I'll pose this question for the hundreth time-Best external Drive for Mac? (not sure if there is a difference). Friend swears by Lacie but uber expensive and a lot of people on this board seem to be down on them

Check out the newest Maxtor drives! They're shipped pre-formatted for Mac (HFS+) and has a stable/nice design that will fit your Powerbook! They also holds great performance search for some reviews!

well if you have have the latest itunes (ver. 7) you can create multiple libraries. on a mac you do this by holding option/alt when you open itunes until a window pops up that lets you create a new library, or choose the library you want to use. both of your libraries wont be able to "talk" to each other though (you'll have two seperate libraries so youll have to add songs to each accordingly) so if thats important to you it might not be the right solution.
