I was having a problem with blurry videos in Video Scratch Live which I knew were not coded wrong using my Windows 7 server at my house and I managed to fix it following this thread -> serato.com

I managed to produce a .reg file to automatically fix this for anyone who was having quality problems with ffdshow + halii media splitter.

Step 1 - Download latest ffdshow 32bit tryouts -> ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net
Step 2 - Download latest Haali Media Splitter -> haali.su
Step 3 - Download this Registry File -> www.mediafire.com
Step 4 - Install ffdshow tryouts.
Step 5 - Install Haali Media Splitter.
Step 6 - Open the registry file.

Your files should play just like they play in VLC Media Player or Quicktime.
Culprit 12:26 AM - 14 February, 2011
Hey guys,

I had a bunch of files encoded at a sample rate 96khz/he-aac+ files I did a while back when I was inexperienced at encoding. Well, the new quicktime x wont play the audio. The video is fine. Here was my solution.

www.mediafire.com

Instructions -
1) Download using link above.
2) Create directory on desktop.
3) Copy, do not move, the files with the non playing audio into this directory.
4) extract folder into this directory.
5) run "audio_fix_script_external.bat"

It will try to correct every file in the directory. Works for mp4's only. This script works for pc only. I do not know how to make a terminal osx version of this.

It extracts video & audio, converts the audio to wav, then converts it to m4a at 44.1k, and then creates a new mp4 with the working audio. If you have any metadata, you will loose it. It saves the old mp4's in a directory called "old" and keeps the new mp4 tagging it as "filename_fixed.mp4" where filename was the actual file name if that makes sense.

Hope someone can use it, it worked good for me.
Culprit 12:27 AM - 14 February, 2011
step 4, i meant zip, not folder.
Culprit 12:28 AM - 14 February, 2011
Also timed it around 20 to 35 seconds a video.

Without a doubt, the audio quality from videotoolz sucks... but I tend to edit all of my videos anyway, regardless of the source. So I posted it for those who are "tech savvy" and just want to get legal videos for the visual aspect.
Culprit 9:29 PM - 8 March, 2011
From my personal experience I cannot endorse videotoolz.com because from what was mentioned in other threads, there is no quality control per video file which is being discussed over here -> serato.com

I can recommend smashvidz. They do quality control per edit, not just video (single, xtendz, acapellas) for example.

I would continue the quality control discussion over there please, thanks!

Indeed. I will look better on your mac. Unless your output format is DVI/HDMI, your most likely going to get degraded quality so it can match the input of the device your outputting to.

yup both work for mp4... mostly use mp3tag (pc). If something won't tag, then tagnrename (pc). If that dowsn't work, then MetaX (mac)
Henry GQ 4:25 AM - 9 March, 2011
u think if i rename files with the tagger that it will change the tag in SSL?
Culprit 4:33 AM - 9 March, 2011
If you rename the actual files themselves or if you change a tag in the mp4?

1) If you rename the file you will have to reimport into your library.
2) If you change the tag then you will have to load the song for the change to take effect into serato.

ReScanning ID3 tags may do it... I've been contemplating this myself....

When I started rippping videos I didn't have a good tagging solution, so my whole video library only has the title field used for the artist and song name. Would like to retag everything to artist - tittle, but not sure how big of a task it will actually be

depends on how you have the filenames named. If you keep a specific structure to your naming then it will be easy to re-tag the files properly.
For example... if you name the files like this:

artist - title.mp4

Then using something like Tag&Rename you can run "filename to tag" and have it plug in the artist and title into their spots. AND you can do it as a batch. So you can have thousands of files done in no time. The only thing is to have Serato re-scan the id3 tags...
DJ DisGrace 2:45 AM - 10 March, 2011
everything is named properly so it "should" be quick lol. I assume I could keep the comments and album fields as is... will have to give this a try with a test folder

I didnt see a MAC download. When I run my VGA through the splitter, thats when the picture gets worst, When I calibrate it calibrates all the TVs the same, but I run 2 LCDs and one projector and they look horrible. I had to switch to one TV the other day because of the picture.

They just came out with the Goflex 4tb. I have had the Goflex 3tb for some time now, and I love it. I would like to express some feedback on its best use.

I keep my master crates on a windows 7 server machine, so my goflex has to be compatible with both. Seagate offers the hfs+/ntsf software from paragon free with the hard drive (only works if you plug the hard drive in while installing). I have tried numerous configurations and here is a couple of tips for you guys.

1) You will loose support for True Crypt if you are using it on your Mac OSX.
2) HFS+ acts a bit goofey on windows 7, and every once in a blue moon when you connect from a windows 7 machine into your osx, it will lock your drive in "read only" mode and tell you your drive is corrupt and to bakup your data files as soon as possible and reformat the drive. This has happend to me 3 times already.
3) I recommend using the NTFS paragon driver on your osx, it works great, and osx can already read NTFS drives. This has been the best configuration so far.

The error I get with True Crypt is "error: the drive uses a sector size other than 512".

why not just reformat to hfs+ and get mac drive for your pc if you are using a mac for gigs

I Just purchased a 2TB WD My Passport Studio FW800/USB 2 bus powered drive and I love it. Here is some quick tips for people using it between windows and mac who might be encountering some issues at first.

I use paragon hsf+ 10 (www.paragon-software.com) current version to this post date on windows to write to the drive (where I keep my master video crate).

It works very well. Just make sure you uninstall any previous versions before you install the newer version, or it will get complicated fast. If you have problems uninstalling, use an application like iobit uninstaller (www.iobit.com) and delete all the registry data linked to paragon (only if you have problems with the provided uninstaller).

Also, another problem you might encounter if your macbook pro dies on you or goes to sleep, is on your mac the drive will not mount or reflect in disk utility. This is a firewire issue with the macbook pro its self (mine being 2010 model). It will happen rarely, but if it does try the following steps.

Charge up your macbook pro at least to 20%, then shut down the macbook pro. Unplug the firewire drive from your computer. Hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds. After you release the power button, the computer should boot. Log in, and plug in the drive to your firewire port. It should mount.

No problem!! I'm always on the hunt for good content and he has some really good stuff. Some of his prices seem steep but then again Resolume has steep prices as well.

Either way I hope people find his tutorials useful as well, just the Mask50/Multiply tips have me blown away, lol!!

I would just like to share that with the current release of btsync, i was getting corrupt files. So at this stage I would highly not recommend it.

Disabling App Nap per application or system wide. This could help us DVS users with this mega latency bug, not officially proven yet, but it could help.

That's some serious stuff.

Perhaps it's time to prune.

Believe it or not I have but I like having my whole library at my disposal and the way I have everything organized I don't want to mess up the order of things by having some stuff somewhere else ... Storage media is cheap so I don't mind upgrading my drives especially because I can always repurpose the others

I have all my music (iTunes files too) on a separate 1TB drive installed in my Mac. I clone that to a portable drive as back-up. If I want to play on another computer I hook up the portable drive and (Option +) open iTunes so it points to my library. Then all my playlists, crates, and files work like they should on any computer (mac).

Great Advice from Dub Cowboy for itunes users!

Booting up to a black or blank screen? Pretty scary right? I just had this happen to me. Luckily, there is a simple fix (hopefully).

"Shut down the Mac and connect it to your MagSafe adapter and a wall outlet as usual. Hold down the Shift+Control+Option+Power button at the same time for a few seconds. Release all keys at the same time, then boot the Mac as usual"

Running old versions of Mac os and ssl or sdj?

Perian Terminal Mid

open the terminal and type:
defaults write org.perian.Perian DecodeAllProfiles -bool YES

that's it. the way you check is goto Users/'your name'/library/preferences/org.perian.Perian.plist
double click that file and it should bring up the PropertyListEditor. there it should say DecodeAllProfiles (checkbox)
