the new manual bpm-counter in ssl isn´t always right because when i wanna count ragga with it (where the "two" is offbeat/earlier!) i tend to do the 2nd tap a bit earlier as well... and because ssl´s beatcounter sets the range only by the first two beats it will display a way too fast bpm-value... for example 120bpm when counting a 90bpm track...
the strange "then tap any steady rhythm you feel comfortable with"-feature isn´t good in my opinion
who made the same experiences?

thats not the problem... you have to be concentrated at the beginning because its all about the first two taps... every other beatcounter i´ve seen works better in this cause

By definition, the beat counter being manual means that it's entirely up to you wether it's right or wrong.

i think you all are getting me wrong...
when i just begin tapping without concentrating on the beat this count is already screwed up... every other beatcounter works perfect but the ssl counter is a bit strange sometimes

did u finish flight school? bc right now it doesnt sound like you did. the 2 isn't off. ragga is still based on a 4/4 structure.
you dont tap according to snare and kick placement. do what d:raf said.
its like foxy browns get you home tonight. the first snare in each bar doesnt fall on the 2, it hits a little before. but you dont bpm that song by where the drums are hitting.... concentrate on the 1 2 3 4

If you can't grasp simple musical principals, stick to a BPM program that can do it for you. Do you not listen to a track before you start tapping away? Is there something about 4/4 structure that confuses you? Does syncopation confuse you? Dee, dee, dee?

i don´t tap at the "2" which comes earlier directly and i know that ragga is straght 4/4... never said something like this, learn reading guys...
i just noticed that when i start counting straight away some ragga tracks might be counted wrong. and this occurs not when using other beatcounters...
so when talking about quick using the ssl beatcounter is whack...
i would like it more when it would do that "range-setting"... whats the sense?

Hes probably doing 8th notes from the very start instead of doing quarter notes then switching to 8's once it finds the right range.

it works for me... but then again i tap the correct beat.. not the syncapated(sp) that the drummer may be doing.. you still have to count 4 on the floor for every manual BPM counter i have ever used.. it it counts more then just the first few taps when i use it

While one might be able to extract humour and acuracy from our statements, we're are still being mean.

Maybe your bpm counter is just broken Concorde...mine seems to work ok.

mine works fine as well, though i don't think they are ever "perfect" but it does find the range.

Yes we are Clark. And I apologize. I'll try to think of a nicer way to tell someone that they are being dee dee dee. I often forget that common sense ain't always that common.
