R&B practice mixes

DeezNotes 5:52 AM - 21 December, 2006
I've been sitting on these for a while... thought about posting them 'cause of the mistakes, but I've been listening to em since I made em cause they're raw. Just me hitting record while I'm practicing. I might have been using a beta version, setting cue points and loops like I usually do at home... only I recorded it. There are a few mistakes in there (and one really bad train wreck), but if you're like me (a DJ) you like hearing raw stuff like this.

It was done in the summer, back when Deja Vu was new: www.deeznotes.com

No time for drops or a track listing. Let me know what the download speeds are like too.
DJ GaFFle 6:04 AM - 21 December, 2006
Downloading it now...

Very fast download speeds. I'm seeing around 730 KB/sec...
nik39 6:27 AM - 21 December, 2006
Deez, whoa... what encoder did you use? It sounds .... not so good. DL speed was around 250kB/s to Germany without DTA. With DTA and 3 chunks 720kB/s (which is the max speed of my line).
DJ GaFFle 6:33 AM - 21 December, 2006
For practice, it's pretty darn good. Even if it wasn't practice, I'd say it was good.

I'm about 50% of the way through it.

I like the transition to Blackberry Molasses. Pleasant surprise to hear that song.
DJ GaFFle 6:35 AM - 21 December, 2006
"So sick" transition (trainwreck) but that's okay, you made it up with some of the other mixes. Your R&B playlist sounds like mine...I've got a lot of these cuts for a grown-up R&B crowd.
djzoo 6:53 AM - 21 December, 2006
downloading now. talk to you tomorrow.

Overall, good listening with lots of tracks and R&B variety. Good flow. Your 'Wanna Love You Girl' mix sounded like a bunch of Clydesdales, Lol... That song is difficult to mix because Pharrell didn't syncopate it properly.

Did you do this mix over and have the final version?
Nicky 7:22 AM - 21 December, 2006
listening... its good!
OG Supernatural 7:43 AM - 21 December, 2006
Sippin the flava.... tasty!
OG Supernatural 8:51 AM - 21 December, 2006
HA! Those must have been beta test scratches towards the end...lol
DeezNotes 6:51 PM - 21 December, 2006
LOL! Thanks for the comments yall. You guys are funny as hell...

nik: I encoded it twice (on purpose) and I'll tell you why: I used VBR Lame at first, but my iPod doesn't seem to like very long VBR files. I thought if I posted it AND if I wanted it to work on my iPod, I'd use 128 CBR. I didn't have WaveLab session in front of me, so I grabbed it off my iPod at work and uploaded it real quick for you guys. I also figured it was just practice. I would never release a final product like that, plus if someone was low enough to steal this mix the quality would already suck a little anyway.

gaffle: Thanks for the compliments. After I dropped Blackberry Molasses, I realized why I never play that song. I didn't like that transition or that song very much, but when I'm at home I play A LOT of songs I never play out for fun. For some reason I enjoy listening to good music I never get to hear... I wonder why? The "Wanna Love You Girl" part was the train wreck, so I'll have to take a listen to the "So Sick" part to see what you're talking about. I'd say about half of this mix was done without headphones, so I'm not surprised if there's more there than what I noticed.

OG: yeah, uh... that wasn't me.

If you notice in my post, I say practice mixeS cause there's more than one. There's another where I'm REALLY practicing... A LOT in one of my favorite crates (R&B B-Sides). Didn't want to give yall too many just in case... I see how yall do AM on here so I didn't want to get shitted on too bad! Right now, I'm all about listening to my practice joints and I think other DJs would like to hear those too since we have a different ear. If this one goes over smoothly, I'll consider posting one of the other mixes. Thanks for the feedback!

Gee... thats so annoying. I also own an iPod and its so disgusting that it cant cope with bigger VBR files! Seriously, you are in the store deciding "should I go with the noname-mp3 player, or with the iPod which is almost 3 times as expensive. Well I guess I go with the iPod, Apple is a known brand, they will sure go for quality". I will never ever buy an iPod again. On top ... once you have put them to your iPod there is not standard-supported way to download them from your iPod. Wack.

Back to your mix.

ONLY at home when I'm messin' around. I think after the first 10 or 15 min. I said to myself "I kinda like this... I should put headphones on." That's why you hear that mistake at 15:50. I kept taking them off for various reasons, plus the person on the [recording] computer at the time was playing Zuma and kept turning me down.

As for transferring files to/from my iPod, I use Media Monkey. Mixmeister and I seem to live by this program? I do the majority of my MP3 management in this program. It'll let you browse your iPod (the way you always wanted to), edit, delete, add files at your leisure. Hell, I even plugged in my Verizon phone and it recognized it. I was able to copy songs straight to it using Media Monkey. That program is nice. PC only though.
