Software for mash-ups?
DJ ROLEMODEL

Hey I am looking to buy a software program to create some mash-ups, do so remixing, and re-editing.
I have heard that Ableton is a great program
Can anyone give me any other suggestions on what software program to buy?

Ableton Live and Sony Acid are my 2 favorite choices. Adobe Audition works well too, but isn't as easy as the other 2.

Please search the forum. There already is a long thread or two out there with all the answers you'd ever want.

Mashups are pretty much doneskis!!! To me they're on the same tier as Napoleon Dynamite. They both were very cool until they went mainstream.

I know a couple of DJs that play other DJ's mashes (that they DL'd online) and now they walk around calling themselves "MASHUP DJs".
That bugs...
A true masher will either make his own or pull a Z-TRIP and create them live.

Lol...here goes the mashup conversation again - so back to the topic....
Ableton Live is the dopest shit on the planet. You can explore all the details on a search but needless to say it's ability to warp tracks is perhaps one of the greatest inventions of all time. I do everything in Live - chop, warp, mix, master. I was in your shoes and spent countless hours researching everything because I strictly wanted it for mashing. Finally went with Live and I couldn't be happier - plus it's cross platform compatible.
Download the trial version though to see if it's for you. It's fully functional except it doesn't let you save your sets. Once you decide to buy it, save $200 and grab it from Pro Sound and Stage Lighting for $399.

Z-Trip didn't invent cross-genre blending. That's just basic Hip-Hop. I'm so sick of this. I'm not hating on Z-Trip, but you young bucks need to get your facts straight.

Put your glasses on and read what I wrote... I was merely stating that he (Z-Trip) is one of the few DJ's that actually blend/mash/whatever live.
I didn't say he invented it.

Come to think of it I think I may be one of the originators of the mash....back in 91 I threw a Ralph Tresvant joint over top of a Simon and Garfunkle track.....sounded O.K. being it was in its primitive stage..lol

LOL!!! how'd you come to that conclusion?
obviously it's straight up opinion, but I struggle to see how such a multigenre DJ like Z can be boring?

his sets are boring. compared to the other dj's out there. like vice, roctakon, etc.
everyone plays multi-genre sets now. i know a lot of people sweat him, and that's fine, but i'm not feeling it. those radio sets i listened to are borderline wack. i wasn't feeling his scratching, his programming... it's just boring to me.

Z-trip aside....Dj Clark is right. this whole talk of "mash up" thing kills me at times because it seems as if some cats really don't know the history. When I heard the term mash up I was laughing because A) It 's an incredibly gay sounding term and B) Mash ups are what you're SUPPOSED to do as a DJ....there should be no term, it's just a basic DJ trait

I thought I was the only one on both of those. In fact, blending Phil Collins has been the cliched "multi-genre" blend since the late 80's, so I've heard. My friend told me he used to blend Journey, while everyone else was doing the Phil Collins blend.
Where do you think Puffles got the idea to sample 80's Pop back in the mid-90's?

Wow! All I meant to say was Z 'made' his mashups during a live set.
I wasn't trying to open a debate regarding the history of a music genre or the validity of Z's skills -- but rather express my opinion about DJ's that download some mashups and then proceed to call themselves a "MASHUP DJ".
Thats all... See this is why Mashups are bad; they make good people fight!
BAN MASHUPS!!! LOL

LOL, nah I said Z-trip aside...he had nothing to do with my little rant.
And yes I agree, a cat who DL's a bunch of premade tracks and says he specializes in mashups is nothing but a fool.
