I use SSL with turntables (1200's) but would like to sell them to switch over to basic scratch/backspin CD players. I don't scratch up a storm or use abs mode anymore and I don't care for the fx, sampling etc found in new CD players. I like the idea of more compact, less weight, and maintainance free CD players. The problem is finding a CD player with a large platter. I've used a Technics SL-DZ1200 w/10" platter and it's perfect. I've scratched with a Denon S5000 but I wouldn't want anything smaller. Looking at less than $1000 for a pair. What are you guys using and has anyone switched from 1200's to CD players?

Numark CDX :)

Little bit more expensive than your limit tho...
But it definately meets your platter size requirement... and with real vinyl on the platter too :)

I'm using SLDZ's... and love them. They're a match made in heaven with time coded systems (SSL/FS/Torq).
And if price is an issue, try looking for a pair used. You can find a pair used pretty often for $1K or so.

Yeah, unless you go used, you won't find anything with a platter for less than $1k a pair.

I'll hang those with pride on my fridge, my oven, my computer at work, the microwave oven and glue another on my mirror in the bathroom. Thanks.
