Am I the only one that hates Breaks at the Club?

DJBlisk 7:12 AM - 14 December, 2006
I mean I can't stand it. I never play that it, and I know a lot of people who can't stand it either... its sounds so fucking corny to me.

Breaks? or Breaks?
digital_steve 7:24 AM - 14 December, 2006
EDM breaks?
djaction 7:57 AM - 14 December, 2006
uh.. what kinda breaks are you talkin about .. please elaborate..

cuz i LOVE oldschool/hiphop breaks @ the club.. especially in the hands of a skilled dj with turntables
matt212 8:11 AM - 14 December, 2006
I don't know man, I like taking breaks anywhere I get a chance. :)

But I barely play them, but It really doesn't bother me if somebody else plays them as long as they get carry away with them. Some breaks are infamous for getting everybody on the floor though.
matt212 8:12 AM - 14 December, 2006
I mean as long as they DON'T get carried away with them.
DJBlisk 8:19 AM - 14 December, 2006
Oops sorry. I'm talking about thos Fatman Scoop Breaks etc. What the hell do you call them again? hype breaks or something. The whole "put your hands up" Crooklyn Clan break makes me wanna break the DJ's hand everytime I hear it. So Corny.

I hate when a dj plays alot of them in a row.... one every now and again is fine. But there is a dj (that one of the club managers at a club i work at idolizes) around here that will play like 30-60mins of nothing but Fat Man Scoop remixed stuff. But thats what happends when a DJ that has only been playing clubs for a year thinks he knows everything!

DJBlisk 9:24 AM - 14 December, 2006
Hey mods lock this post! I'm gonna start a new one.
dj disturbed 9:27 AM - 14 December, 2006
why start a new one.. this one is good
DJBlisk 9:32 AM - 14 December, 2006
Fine. I just didn't want to confuse everyone. That whole "put your hands up" bizness or that stupid Faith Break... I hear that shit all the fucking time in hollywood. Sometimes I think DJ's do it becuase they can't get the crowd amped with their own mixing... Shit, being a Microwave DJ has got to have its downfalls.
DJ_Mike_Coquilla 6:00 AM - 19 December, 2006
i'd like to go to a club that only played the accapella's of thos Fatman Scoop Breaks.... no beats, no music...just him hella yellin

No. DJ's use these because most turntablists are NOT GOOD on the mic whatsoever. They may rock the tables, but can't rock the mic.

If you're a good DJ... grab that mic and hype the crowd yourself. I hate people who use these damn "breaks" on an empty dance floor. hahahaha.

There's a lot of hate in this thread.

I have to disagree here, I NEVER speak on the mic, and I consider myself a good DJ. If I can't get them hype with the music I play, replace me, I can create the same effect with droppin' hot shit at the right moment. F*ck all that yellin' on the mic, mix it up!

but I might want a hypeman if I get this gig...lol.
Audio1 2:17 AM - 20 December, 2006
good hypemen/women FTW!
joerockets 2:45 AM - 20 December, 2006
is there like a match.com where DJs and hypemen/hypewomen can go to meet each other?? I'm a single DJ, no kids, never married, non-smoker....

j/k but I am looking for an MC
Dj Shamann 4:34 AM - 20 December, 2006
Those breaks are horrible, but some clubs you gotta play them. I never actually played any until last year, and it's the one that I always hated going back to the 90's when it first came out...thge "where the ladies at, where the ladies at". But this one spot I was playing at for a couple of months I found out it was like "their" anthem or some shit (I know...I was laughing pretty hard at that one too) and after a few weeks of them crying I finally caved, now for some reason it's made it's way into my sets at other places.

I've been making my own little jump up treats for years, I never saw any cause to play anybody elses, and I do my own mic work alot better than the generic "hands up, hands up" to the point where I get hired to just MC some places that already have a full DJ line up. I have a really personal style on the mic which can't be accomplished with a generic break.

I won't fault a cat for playing one, maybe two but after that you're just a jukebox to me if you're filling up your sets with them.
