What speakers should I use for this party

djbeatrock 1:40 AM - 5 December, 2006
I'm doing a Christmas party for some city employees. I expect there to be about 150-200 people; the room is about 4,300 square feet. The music doesn't have to be too loud, since it isn't a club. However, all I'm using are two Mackie SRM450. Is this enough? I have speaker stands for them, so that may help project the sound a little better. What would you recommed? Or, am i OK?

You should be fine with the SRM450's, you might want to add a sub.

You're good with the Mackie's...

The pair of mackies will be ok IF YOU GET THEM HIGH ENOUGH!!!

That means put them on stands and as high as you can get them safely. You'd be better off with another pair - also on stands, but if it's just dinner music (no dancing) then you'll be ok. I'd say you wouldn't need the sub for dinner music but if you start dancing you'll need one - and badly.

Worst part with only a pair of speakers is that they'll need to be pretty loud to get coverage on a room that big. Which means loud at the speakers - quiet at the other side of the room. Getting them up high will help stop part of this - but only more speakers will directly address this problem.
