Yep, they have a really good chance to repeat. I like that they didn't change much from last year. Oh yeah the Vegas odds have them to win again 3:1....not that it means anything...just saying.
Did you see Dr Dre over at Fenway wearing a red sux jersey? That looked really strange.

giradi blew that game by leaving CC in that long. it's the first game of the season, take him out after 85 pitches.
DJ CISC0

I blame the bullpen. Once Chan Ho Park came in the game just got out of control. But yeah, I don't understand why CC stood in for that amount of pitches considering the threat.

4:04 AM 6 April 2010
LOL Take Sabathia out after 85 pitches? Are you insane? He's literally the toughest pitcher in terms of abuse points in the game (outside of Livan Hernandez). That's idiotic. Let's take a look at this:
5 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk. 85 pitches. Take him out there and you're SCREAMING that he's done so quickly.

I was talking about what he had going into that 6th inning.

Lad, weren't you the one saying CC was on the road to blowing out his arm early in his career?Yes. And it's still possible, especially considering the workload he's had over his career. THAT SAID, it was the first game of the season and was at 85 pitches. Yelling for him to be pulled at that point is stupid.
DJ CISC0
8:28 PM 6 April 2010
So you would've made him go for 120 pitches? For what exactly? If that's what he had going into the 6th then it makes even more sense taking him out since he gave up 3 more runs. I just think for that the first game of the season you can't kill your players right away....especially ACE pitchers.

Hughes vs Beckett
Sabathia vs Buchholz
Burnett vs Lester
The couple of injuries shouldn't hurt us too much if some of the guys just pick up some of the slack like Nick Johnson and Tex...Nick did a good job yesterday showing that he could do it. Hopefully Tex gets into his groove too. Jorge should also be back in the lineup so we'll see what happens.

Nick Johnson is having a remarkable season. He's on pace to draw 165 walks and get just 82 hits. He's still got a .396 OBP. Only 9 players in baseball history have ever draw more than 100 walks and got less than 100 hits in a season, and only 2 have less than 90 hits and more than 100 walks (Jack Clark in 1990 and Wes Westrum (???) in 1951). Westrum's 51 season is closest to Johnson - hit .219 with a .400 OBP.
He's still valuable, but if his walk rate declines even slightly he may become an issue.
Still, something to watch

I'm guessing the walks will go down simply because he's going to have to get a little more aggressive at the plate -- if he gets his average up to his career average (.270), he's gonna have to raise his average 100 points. I don't see his OBP going up to nearly .500, but who knows.
Of course, the big knock on Johnson is that if he gets a cold, he goes on the DL. He makes JD Drew look like Cal Ripken Jr.

They're 17-4 ON THE FRIGGING ROAD.
Think about that.
Only one team in baseball has 17 HOME wins. 7 teams in baseball have 17 wins or less in TOTAL.
They can hit. They can field. They can pitch. They have a very good bullpen.
It's going to take some injuries for the Sox or Yanks to catch up.

My all-star starters (not based in reality, since obviously some of these guys won't win the vote):
AL
C: Joe Mauer, MIN. This is in despite of his lack of homers, he's still getting on base at a .392 clip and playing stellar defense.
1B: Justin Morneau, MIN: Leading the world in OBP with a ridiculous .483, he's also jacked 13 bombs. As much as I'd love to put Cabrera up there, Morneau's team is also in first place. Also, there's literally 8 guys I'd put in the ASG before Teixeira. Just a joke here.
2B: Robinson Cano, NYY: Finally having that real breakout season. Only thing to complain about his is lack of walks, but when you're hitting .356, who cares?
3B: Jose Bautista, TOR: 18 homers, very good defense, and one of the biggest surprises in baseball this year. Plus, he's leading all AL 3Bs in OBP and SLG - what's to complain about?
SS: Elvis Andrus, TEX: Kid has 18 steals, nearly a .400 OBP and plays very good defense. He's also drawn 30 walks and while his power isn't there (only 9 XBH), he's one of the main reasons why Texas is in first place. Sorry, Jeter -- you're very close.
OF: Alex Rios, CHW; Carl Crawford, TBR; Vernon Wells, TOR: Rios has returned to his 07-08 form, Crawford has 18 steals and 24 XBH and is the leadoff hitter for the best team in baseball, and Wells has somehow gone from being one of the worst players in baseball to one of the best. Swisher was close but the main difference is that while his offensive season has been as good as any of those three, his defense has been much worse (except Wells).
DH: Vlad Guerrero, TEX: a huge pickup in the off season he's rewarded the Rangers by having a .918 OPS and 12 homers.
SP: Ricky Romero, TOR: a 3.06 ERA, leading the AL in K's with 86, and he's only allowed 69 hits in 85 innings. Well deserved.
NL
C: Miguel Olivo, COL: a .957 OPS as a catcher -- that's more than 100 points better than anyone else. His defense has also been out of this world.
1B: Albert Pujols, STL: Yup. .430 OBP, 13 homers. Yawn.
2B: Chase Utley, PHL: While Kelly Johnson has been excellent, Utley has a higher OBP and much better defensively; Johnson has been a butcher in the field.
3B: Ryan Zimmerman, WAS: finally turning into the stud he was drafted to be. .994 OPS and a .407 OBP with 11 homers. Not to mention he's been excellent on defense.
SS: Troy Tulowitzki, COL: Top flight defender, leading all NL SS with a .855 OPS that is has a .372 OBP in it. Easy pick.
OF: Josh Willingham, WAS; Matt Holliday, STL; Jason Heyward, ATL: Heyward has been a star already, playing okay defense and swinging the bat like a veteran. Willingham has a .931 OPS and a .425 OBP and has played decent defense for the surprisingly good Nationals. Holliday has been very good this year both with the bat and in the field.
DH: Andre Ethier, LAD: Since the NL manager can pick anyone to be their DH, I'll take Andre Ethier, since he's been AWFUL in the field but great at bat.
SP: Ubaldo Jimenez, COL: if you don't get why, stop watching baseball. A 0.78 ERA in JUNE?!?

Typical NYY fans, of course there are a ton of Yankee and Sox fans down here because you all eventually move to FL to retire.Lad- If you don't mind me asking, how much do you spend on memberships to databases? There's some comparison I like doing sometimes on different things but going through all these sites is wack.
Starting infield for the AL will be:
C- Mauer
1B- Tex (which is crazy) unless he goes on a tear the next few weeks.
2B-Cano
SS- Jeter
3B- A-Rod or Longoria
Swish. Gardner, and Granderson are so close too.
Sorry, I'm so bias.

Fangraphs is free. Baseball-reference is free.
I pay, I think, $10 for the year for Bill James' site. That's it.
