that sucks. i loved that site.
papsworth 6:52 PM - 29 November, 2006
where else could you get 320 lame encoded mp3s of popular music for 15 cents?
sixxx 7:20 PM - 29 November, 2006
I didn't even know this site existed. Of course, I don't really buy mp3's with the ocassional iTunes one when I'm in need of something for some private party.
Detroitbootybass 8:44 PM - 29 November, 2006
Great news!
monkeybiz 9:20 PM - 29 November, 2006
Yay. Dodgy operation, to say the least, and
you get what you pay for. It's basically like paying to use a P2P site. Who honestly didn't see this coming?
papsworth 9:44 PM - 29 November, 2006
i dont how see its like paying to use a p2p site... they quality was high on those files.
monkeybiz 10:03 PM - 29 November, 2006
Yeah, but where did you think the money was going?
a-swift 10:26 PM - 29 November, 2006
i guess the days of building platinum series compilations "russian style" are over. not that i would ever do that to begin with.
nik39 10:45 PM - 29 November, 2006
P2P and allofmp3 dont fit together. Two very different things. Not saying allofmp3 was or was not legal.
papsworth 10:47 PM - 29 November, 2006
the money was taken off my credit card. after that it was out of my hands. where it went i'm not sure... probably into the bank accounts of some enterprising russians

OK, so how about I liken it to some guy on a sidewalk selling bootleg DVD's?
nik39 10:59 PM - 29 November, 2006
If crooklyclan.net is legal than allofmp3.com is legal as well. Not only legal but hell of cheap compared to them :-D
papsworth 11:00 PM - 29 November, 2006
lol

Touche!
a-swift 11:08 PM - 29 November, 2006
crooklynclan.net is legal? yeah right. i'm sure they are writing a big ass check to the respective artists every month for the tracks they rip to make their crashups.
nik39 11:33 PM - 29 November, 2006
a-swift, jesus, dont tell me you didnt know they were legal. They dont even charge for tracks at all! They are all for free!*

* You only have to "donate" for each track from $1.00 to $10.00.(**)

** Dont even think that you can choose how much you donate(***)

*** If you dont donate you cant download(****)

**** We are not selling those tracks.

At least allofmp3.com said they are selling those tracks. I really like their idea to sell DRM free tracks plus the choice is up to the user to decide which quality he is up to. The better/more bandwidth the more you have to pay. That is fair. (Hoping labels are reading this. Yeah right. ;))
sG 11:42 PM - 29 November, 2006
Are we still on this Crooklyn Clan business? Yeesh...
nik39 11:46 PM - 29 November, 2006
No, this thread is about allofmp3.com.
a-swift 12:11 AM - 30 November, 2006
i missed the crooklyn clan thread all together. once i finally saw it, there were too many posts for me to even click into it and get caught up. sorry for confusing the thread topic. now i gotta go make some donations.

They're not being shut down - YET. Russia wants into the WTO and certain requirements of that deal with protecting intellectual property. Which means that if Russia wants to follow through they need to pass a law that makes what allofmp3.com doing illegal. And they have to do it before June 1, 2007.

However, allofmp3 is considering paying an additional 5% of their income directly to the artists. A couple artists get a check for more from allofmp3.com than they're getting from their label and they'll be screaming to let them do their thing. But it's still going to take some time....

In the meantime, I'll post here the samething I posted somewhere else....

"It's not just the price that makes AllOfMP3.com so popular. While that helps, the 'other' features surely help:

1. Bitrate is selectable - if you want FLAC, you get FLAC, if you want APE, WMA, Ogg, MP3 192kbps VBR LAME, or CDDA you can get it.

2. NO COPY PROTECTION. As a DJ I need tracks WITHOUT copy protection. Apple and Microsoft don't like to release the specifics on how the copy protection works so software I use can't read the copy protected files.

3. Ease of purchase - the AllOfMP3 explorer was very easy to use and AllTunes is even easier. I can browse quite easily and even listen to the ENTIRE song before purchase.

4. The price - while the cost of tracks has gone up it's still fairly inexpensive. And it's not a 'per track' basis - it's based on the SIZE of the track being ordered. Which means that a 128kbps MP3 will be less expensive than a 320KBPS MP3 which is less expensive than FLAC or CDDA.

And while AllofMp3.com is being shut down does anyone know if they're going after the other sites operating in Russia as well? I would assume they would, but only time will tell...

If anyone has read the information posted at AllOfMP3.com, they've been paying ROMS all along and are considering paying the ARTISTS DIRECTLY an additional 5%. If they did this you can bet your sweet ass that the artists would start pushing to let the tracks be sold there. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out in the end... but in the meantime I'll be pulling as many tracks as I can.

Good thing I still have an XL subscription to eMusic..."

But I can tell you this... if someone doesn't do something soon with regards to offering non-DRM'd files and ease of use/purchase people will start going back to P2P and other sources for tracks... Or the super-secret-bretheren will be getting some more members... along with a big fat news feed subscription... ;-)
papsworth 2:35 AM - 30 November, 2006
emusic doesnt have half of the songs allofmp3 does so thats not really too much of a substitute.

and how are you adding credits to your account? last time i checked they arent taking credit cards any longer and theres really no other way to do it. unless it still works in alltunes? but alltunes doesnt work on mac.

also what other sites in russia do you know of? are they as good?
MusicMeister 5:03 AM - 30 November, 2006
hehehe.... if this goes like the RIAA is hoping it will ALL of the sites in Russia will become illegal.

And no, eMusic doesn't have a fraction of the sites as AllofMP3.com but it's all I have.

And they're taking diner's club and another card through AllTunes. If you go through the website they're still accepting credit cards as of right now.
papsworth 7:22 AM - 30 November, 2006
no but im saying what are the other sites in russia? let me know
a-swift 4:55 PM - 30 November, 2006
i hear that www.gomusic.ru is not bad
djdannyc 7:29 PM - 30 November, 2006
looks good but you do know what kind of files you get?
papsworth 7:55 PM - 30 November, 2006
no i couldnt find that on the site
MusicMeister 8:22 PM - 30 November, 2006
gomusic.ru offers music in a fixed format - and it's usually 192kbps or greater. The main difference is the fixed pricing per track.

i know what kind of files i get from gomusic.ru. 192kb. they sound the same as allofmp3.com, or so i've heard. both of those russian sites sound better than digiwaxx or worksessions, but obviously they don't have brand new urban joints on them. workessions files do sound better than digiwaxx though, for that reason i rarely download from digiwaxx. i really don't understand why they just don't fix their encoding. seriously, can it be that hard to just use a high quality encoder?
Dj Wunder 8:47 AM - 12 December, 2006
Hey, I guess I'm just catching the tail end of this Allofmp3.com craze, but I thought I'd give it a whirl...only problem is I can't figure out to pay, theres no option for Visa/MC. When you choose pay by credit card it says it's not available at the moment. Is this a sign of the website shutting down? Anyone come across this?
MusicMeister 10:58 AM - 12 December, 2006
They only take Mastercard and you log into the website... you can use it through the alltunes explorer.

Not anymore. The creditcard companies have stopped taking payments for this site. It won't be long now before they are gone for good. *weeps a tear*

I feel you on that, I tried to add money to my account a few weeks ago, and couldn't. Now I'm down to my last $2.00 on there. :-(
MusicMeister 2:33 AM - 20 January, 2007
If you do some reading you'll know you can use a CC to buy Xrost credits that you can redeem on the site without loosing any money. It's an extra step, but for those without a diner's club it works...

And every once in a while the CC payments work through the website...
Talrinys 11:07 AM - 20 January, 2007
www.legalsounds.com - same thing, different day
