Where to get mp3's? How do I get a better backspin? How do I rip-off so and so's classic mix?
Wouldn't it be great if there was a buch of doctors with stethoscopes looking real serious in their profile pictures and there status updates said something to the affect of " I am the best doctor! none of you can mess with my last checkup or surgery!" That would come of as a bit corney, self absorbed and childish don't you think?

Internet message boards make everyone more confident and it doesn't matter what the demographic or focus of the website is.
That said, I think most DJs are nerds or at least have many nerd traits, cool or not.
A level of nerdiness and/or obsessiveness is a core of most DJs' personalities. How else do you practice routines, organize music, work on the same scratch technique, etc, for hours on end?

Ive always maintained that the job is nerdy as fuck, but for some reason, people see us as cool, I mean they only see the side of the dj in the booth, not as sacrilicious just said the hours of skratch practice, rountines, and all the other stuff thats involved, Tagging MP3 cue points loops etc etc!!!

lol at the doctor analogy... if a DJ trainwrecks he should get sued for malpractice!
As far as NERDS go, (I prefer to use the term technically inclined) I agree. There is more to it than just dropping the latest club-banger at peak hour and matching the color of your hat to your control vinyl. We as DJs need to be computer sav vy, and know about things like ohms, balanced jacks, video encoding, sampling bit-rate, Hz, kHz, wattage, voltage, midi mapping, firmware updates, etc.

Everything in this thread just describes the qualities of anyone who is good at doing anything. Maybe sports more than anything else.
and lol, way to fail. I see doctor ads all the time that are way more pompous than that. They even have custom ones for different areas, our Oakland ones are something like "YO! my lazik eyez surgery is tha shiznit! You don't be messin wit no phony doctors if you want dat vision to come correct son!"

I don't get it, since when were doctors anything but kings among nerds anyway?
