Hey boys, girls, and others...
So, I've been elected to do a latin night at a local (gay) club. I'm looking for some good ideas on what to play. I know reggaetone isn't a bad idea, and will probably play quite a bit of it. I'm looking for other genres and song titles that might be a hit for them and really get them dancing and grinding.
Suggestions...?

Yeah, and that's what i play mostly.Throw in a little hip hop and reggaetone to get them bumpin and grinding on each other. But for a latin themed night, they want more latin-ish songs.

Definitely Reggaeton.
But don't get it twisted, there's no special "gay latin" Simply play the same music you would for any other crowd (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata). If you have no idea on what's good for latin music, you gotta lotta catchin up to do.
You'll definitely play House, but make it TRIBAL (the percussions add a serious latin flair)
In my opinion, spanish pop is HORRIBLE! Don't play that sh!t on this side of the states.

Latin music is very regionalized. Tribal, Salsa, & Merengue won't work at my club. Spanish Pop Remixes, Spanish Rock, Electro & Trance work wonders.

Exactly. But Super Estrella is only here in LA. There's no other Super Estrella in the US, Entravision replaced them with some station called Jose. lol
We're a Super Estrella club, so Pop remixes works wonders with us.

Agree! there's no special gay latin music. They love dance music and trance, I had a few residencies in hispanic gay clubs and never played Paulina Rubio, Julio Iglesias or any latin pop.

That's why I'm saying that latin music varies from city to city. In some places spanish pop remixes do really good, in others it doesn't. Same goes for any other genre. Spanish pop & spanish rock remixes work great at our club. Specially the trance remixes. We sell out every week and we been going at for 7 years now. Other clubs have tried something similar and it fails.
Spanish music is a bit harder IMO, cuz if you don't play the right remix at the right time it can empty your dancefloor. I rarely play any original version of spanish pop because most of the time they're not club friendly. Getting quality remixes is KEY to doing spanish sets. That's why most of the remixes I play are done by me or by a closed circle of dj friends.

Oh I forgot. You also gotta take into account the type of latin crowd that goes there BIG TIME. There's a lot of different latin crowds. I have a really hardcore Mexican crowd at my club where I could drop some Banda Recodo if I wanted to and they would go nuts. But at our other club, we also have a US Born latin crowd that will not tolerate any spanish whatsoever. They like your typical Top 40, Hip Hop, Electro, type of stuff.

Where did you get the charly garcia and virus remix? Most mexican gays like dance, electro, top40, trance. DJWoody is right with his playlist. When I dj for mexican gays never get requested reggeaton or hiphop.

The Charly Garcia remix was made by a friend of mine, DJ Quemadiscos. I made the Virus remix, which honestly, it's more like a redrum.
You can hear songs 20-29 on this megamix I made for a NYE promo.

I dunno, you'll have to ask him. He doesn't DJ. He just makes those remixes for himself and for his DJ friends. lol He's an amazing producer and a very cool guy.
One thing though. He doesn't like it when people jack his low quality stuff. That really annoys him.

matters on the nationality of the crowd... I'm a latin dj. Yesterday i was spinning only bachata, merengue, reggaeton and a little bit of salsa. It was a dominican crowd. Now for colombians. It's Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia and alot of salsa. Btw i pretty much only spin latin and have yet to play spanish pop -.-

EXACTLY!!!! I'm the complete opposite of you. I rarely play any bachata, salsa, or merengue, but I play a lot of Spanish Pop. Then again, I have a really hardcore Mexican crowd from Guadalajara.

I dunno. I'm sure he has. He sent me a PDF with his entire catalog which is over 200 remixes. I dunno where it is though. lol I only have 168 remixes. lol I know he told me last week that he hasn't really done anything this year.
Trip out. Quemadiscos is a GHOST producer. None of us have ever met him. lol No one knows who he is, or how he looks like. lol His MySpace doesn't have any pictures of him. lol For all we know, he can be some famous producer under disguise, or some kid on his basement. lol

Hey Slade...all good advice in here bro!
There is really no 'special latin music' for gay crowds like others have said before...ur just gonna have to read the crowd and throw a lil bit of everything (salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, spanish pop/rock, cumbias, latin house) until u hit the 'spot' ...also i think u might be able to get away with some freestyle as well...
I've posted a few of my latin mixes here on the forum...as a matter of fact i just posted one today serato.com ...i try to play all the hot/commercial stuff in there so u might get an idea of what is working now (or at least whats working here in Miami lol)
...anyways keep digging and good luck on ur gig!

If you like Argentine pop, here's a mashup I did that I decided to share. I'm sure you'll recognize the background song.
And for the record, I know the elusive Quemadiscos. ;-)
