prepare feature

djgrits7 8:04 PM - 19 March, 2010
i don't get how this is much different or more useful than just getting a playlist together and playing it straight from your playlist.. case in point, i made a concert intro playlist, named it, and when i go to my gig, i'll play the songs straight out of that playlist... how does the prepare feature do anything different than what i've already done?

thanks, i want to start learning about the ins and outs of this program... any places to find useful stuff like what i'm wonderin about would be greatly helpful as well... thanks

I guess the prepare section is meant more for the spontaneous requests you get during a gig. It's easier to hit the prepare button and throw a song in there than it is to make a crate. Plus once you play a song from the prepare section it leaves the prepare section instead of staying there like it would in a crate.
Dj-M.Bezzle 8:09 PM - 19 March, 2010
because once you play a track from the prepare list the track removes itself from the list , also i believe its easier to put themin a certian order in the prepare window i could be wrong on that but the tracks definatley dissappear when you play them so you dont risk playing a song twice on accident, also the prepare list is temparary so if you are taking requests you dont have a crate with peoples dumb frequest saved taking up space

lol @ me and logicalstyles racing
Wazo 8:17 PM - 19 March, 2010

Logisticalstyles 8:19 PM - 19 March, 2010

Dj-M.Bezzle 8:20 PM - 19 March, 2010
ive been meaning to train myself to start using it but i always forget, i bet it would be useful
sixxx 9:10 PM - 19 March, 2010
The prepare window is an excellent feature. I use it all the time. Especially for requests.
sixxx 9:11 PM - 19 March, 2010
Also, if I think of a song to play later on, I drop it in there so I don't forget.

i do this as well. i also like the fact than once you play it, it get automatically erased off the prepare window
Audio1 9:20 PM - 19 March, 2010
I use it everytime I DJ. Sometimes you are playing music and you got a track playing, You start thinking 2-3 tracks ahead in the mix, Its a great place to load tracks and gather ideas for what you wnat to bring next.
enoise 10:03 PM - 19 March, 2010
exactly, you have an on the fly idea, you drop 2-3 tracks you wanna mix in a special way, or if you mix videos with the SET VIDEO feature, you can drop the vid + song.. so you dont have to search for it
Audio1 10:05 PM - 19 March, 2010
with requests, You can drag your requested track in there and depending on what you are playing at the time, You can find tracks that will lead you from playing track to the request. If your thinking on your feet creatively, There are many ways to approach mixes.
sixxx 10:39 PM - 19 March, 2010
A1 and enoise are on point. I use for video stuff a lot and also when you're ahead of the mix by a few more songs. With everything a DJ does, is easy to forget and the prepare
window helps me not forget.
Audio1 10:45 PM - 19 March, 2010
its great on nights you are wasted. LOL
sixxx 10:46 PM - 19 March, 2010

+1

You never know how useful it is until you leave the bedroom and play out in the real world.

Like Sixxx said it is great for requests because we ALL KNOW, they will ask for some crunk 70 BPM Rap or some whimpy slow song while you are doing a Uptempo Bmore set, take the request, drop in Prepare and hit it later.

Also, I sometimes like to think 3 or 4 tracks ahead or I will play in "sets", drop a song or two in Prepare and build a set around those songs when I play them later.

It is really useful when you are doing a library search, if I went to play some Jay Z followed by Biggie, followed by Luda (search Jay Z) drop the song in Prepare, search Luda, drop in Prepare, and then search Biggie, drop in prepare, now my next 3 songs are right there without scrolling and searching again.

Prepare Rocks....

probably the most underated feature on Serato. While all these other cats are wanting Auto-Sync, Hidden Eggs, Loop Rolls and a bunch of other nonsensical stuff, This is what the working DJ's are using as a tool to easily navigate thru the club festivities.
djgrits7 12:59 AM - 20 March, 2010
this is so useful, i will definitely use it in the future... i've definitely had the thought of three or four songs in advance or get those annoying requests so this will def. help...

can u make more than one prepare window tho? lets' say u got some crunk hits, 80s etc..

you'd do better with a crate or playlist - think of prepare as a "on the fly" crate, something to play out of for the moment. If you have ever done vinyl, the prepare window is like pulling the 12" at a angle up in the crate so you can remember to play or find it.
Henry GQ 8:32 AM - 20 March, 2010
i always wondered about that stuff as well. ive had scratch for like 4-6 years. and always dragged and dropped files from my folders... not my crates, and recently started getting my crates together... the prepare window makes sense in the request world. good thread!

thnx! any other ideas to help ?
DJ Dub Cowboy 4:41 AM - 21 March, 2010
I like that you can send tracks to the prepare list by hitting ctrl+P, faster than dragging to a crate
