Good (chill) reggae artists?

I just got back from Maui, where they have reggae on the FM 24/7. I have always liked reggae, but never really dug deep into the genre or played a lot of it. This station didn't announce the artists very often, and their site doesn't have a playlist, so I thought I would post here and see if anyone spins this stuff and can point me towards some good artists and labels.
I'm not looking for dancehall or reggaeton, I'm talking reggae and roots rock... chill low-BPM stuff with not much going on except wicked basslines, minimal drums, muted guitars and vocals. :) Videos are even better, but I know a lot of this stuff probably doesn't get videos made...
Thanks!

What station?
I would say check out Katchafire, Rebel Souljahz, Morgan heritage, Da'ville (more rnbish reggae i suppose), Third World, Damian Marley, Iration (for more college rock/reggae sound), Gregory Isaacs, Beres Hammond, Tarrus Riley....if you find something you like in that list, let me know, and I can narrow it down more...

Q103, 103.7... thanks, I will look into those. I'm also downloading all the reggae I can find on my pool sites, once I find some good stuff I like I will post some examples.
Here's a question though -
Which came first?
"Rastafari Anthem" or Collie Buddz "Come Around"? One of 'em ganked the other lol. I have been playing the Collie Buddz forever but it looks like the other was on a 2007 reggae compilation CD...

I guess I don't really know! I heard it in Hawaii. The station billed itself as "roots rock and reggae", and everything they played the whole week I was there was killer.
I like Damian Marley, Collie Buddz, etc (as far as crossover stuff goes), and I have always dug Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, etc... so I guess that stuff would be carribean. What's the difference?

Hawaiian reggae tends to have more harmonizing vocals, whereas more traditional reggae, the artist have a heavier accent and a thicker sound...I'm not really into the dub sound, but for a white guy, I know a bit about the hawaiian reggae sound...thats why I listed a bunch of artists to check out, once you find some stuff you like, i might be able to help narrow it down for ya...if you like Collie Buds, you probably will like the more straight ahead reggae...but, maybe you will like it all...
However, the hawaiian reggae is harder to find...also check out Ekolu and The Green Band...

Come Around was the first remake of the original Zap Pow cut "Last War"

Borrowing the "riddim" is the culture of JA reggae. You can tell who the good artists are when they have the same canvas

a lot of reggae artists do both culture and dancehall tunes.
Sizzla
Capleton
Buju Banton
Anthony B
they have just as much melodic rootsy stuff as they do dancehall barn burners.
I like a lot of artists from St. Croix Virgin Islands have a very thick roots sound. I love the sound of
Batch
Ras Attitude
Midnite
Pressure
Bambu Station
Danny I
also look up:
Lutan Fyah
Fantan Mojah
Konshens
Alborosie (italian)
Million Stylez
Queen Omega
Queen Ifrica
Respect to Island reggae:
J Boog
Natural Vibrations
Humble Soul
Also look out for some crucial indie artists:
Jah Sun
Ishi Dube
Soulmedic
Rocker T
Jahworks the Revolutionary
Stevie Culture
Winstrong
(all from Lion Camp)
SOJA
Groundation
new Collie Buddz/Major Lazer tune is fire!!

VI Roots is what you are after.
I'll spin a set for you on my radio show today. I usually don't promote it here but why not...
REGGAE JAMDOWN
live from Humboldt County
EVERY FRIDAY
2-4PM PST
live on WWW.KHSU.ORG
playlists can be found at www.massiveresect.com
you will find lots of lists of songs in the same vein as what you are after. I think I have a few years worth of playlists up there. Podcast should be back soon, but for now it streams live on the stations site. CLick listen live when you get there. I mix it live on 1200s and a 57. I made the station Scratch Live ready a couple years ago.

Good tunes btw. But you should stream a direct line from the mixer instead of the camera mic.

Lol.... Guess it a cultural difference in the apparel - the j-boog crew looked like bangers(with all the tattoos - and the dark clothing) - but a good track though especially with Richie spice..
