Technics 1200 Not Discontinued?

Dj_Wes 7:53 PM - 18 March, 2010
There are some places on the web now with the MK2's and MK5g's in stock now (no price gouge) so makes me thinks these are still being produced. I have seen the MK5g's in the low 600's with free shipping at beach audio. Just thought I would give peeps a heads up if you needing one or two.

what sites (pm me lol)
DJWALDO 8:09 PM - 18 March, 2010
they are NOT discontinued.
someone starts a rumor, store jacks up price, average dipshit dj believes the bullshit, store owner pockets an extra $100 per deck. it's a vicious circle. has happened a bunch of times throughout the years and every single time it's that same vicious circle. after a few months of absolutely no one ever seeing or hearing an official statement the price goes back down cause the jig is up...

hahaha like i said before. to me i dont see how the production of techs would stop cause supply wasnt up enough to cover costs Esp after serato and tractor came out. After all thats what made ALOT of DJ's myself included go to Vinyl so i dont know why they would stop production. if anything i would think that demand would be up cause i know ill be getting some new tables some time soon as well.

because techs hold up well over time, so instead of going to GC and buying a new Tech for 500 you can go on ebay and craigslist and get one for half that, for every new guy who goes hey i think i wanna spin vinyl, theres 4 old school djs and people who never had the time to learn trying to sell them
DJ Val-BKNY11203 9:01 PM - 18 March, 2010
Even all the 1200's on craigslist were jacked up, then they were ghost. It's like either folks sold em all. Or peeps decided to hold on to them just in case they were gonna be worth more.
Dj-M.Bezzle 9:01 PM - 18 March, 2010
also you have to look at it as techs being a wing of panosonic, your comparing the needs of new DJs (think serato sales numbers) VS the sales of their other depts which sell things like TVs, theres a TOOOOONNNN more people buying TV and other consumer products than there are trying to be a DJ.........until autosync comes out but that wont help vinyl either
DJ NoNseNse 9:04 PM - 18 March, 2010
Before I was seeing used techs being sold for $150-$250 and now I see them for them $250-$400. If they aren't discontinued then why some stores stop selling them?
Wazo 10:19 PM - 18 March, 2010
its just one deck out of many. i heard they are adding auto sync to them now for 2011.

theyre not being discontinued...just not being made in masses....limited amount every few months is my guess.and true technics do hold up...i bought my m3ds off of craigslist for 550 with ortofon needles... the guy said he felt more comfortable with cdjs and needed the extra money....works for me...
DJWALDO 10:26 PM - 18 March, 2010
to keep the facade up lol. a standard technics sl 1200 is not and will never be a collectors item nor some for of antique worth more money than was originally paid for them. if you need 1200's I know where there's a set right now in a coffin with a mixer for less than a grand. thats less than 250 per piece included. all you have to do is simply refuse to pay some jacked up price and it will drop. remember the first 50" flat panel? that fucking thing was 10 grand in best buy and nooooooo body bought it... but if they were flying off the shelves you can bet your ass they'd still be between 5 and 10.
MSF 5:46 PM - 19 March, 2010
I bought one of them 60" flat panet grand wegas back in Jan 2001 for 10k...shit was a waste.. my lady wanted that tv so i got it. never again will i spend that type of loot on some tv.

I would say the MK1, MK4, LTD, GLD, are collectors items. Every other 1200 was available for the masses and can still be easily obtained. I still never seen an MK1, my cousin has a pair of MK4's and he won't sell them to me. He don't even use them! lol
DJ Dub Cowboy 12:48 AM - 20 March, 2010
mk1 is not something we would want to DJ with nowadays, me thinks.

I think its all about making them work for you. I'm customizing my M3Ds right now and it's a great experience. I can't consider anybody a real DJ now now until the rebuild their tonearms and color sand 20 layers of paint. it's like forging my own sword.

I never said it was. But I would consider the MK1 a collectable since that's what paved the way for the modern 1200 and it's super rare.
DJ Dub Cowboy 12:53 AM - 20 March, 2010
good point, never seen any for sale
DjWoody 1:06 AM - 20 March, 2010
I just spoke to my long lost cousin and he still has his pair of MK4's in his garage. He's married now, and has a bunch of kids. So no time to use them. I'm gonna try to convince him to sell them to me! lol
DJ Dub Cowboy 7:20 AM - 20 March, 2010
do it!

those are the only ones with detachable RCAs and 78RPM
DjWoody 5:36 PM - 20 March, 2010
Yup! And they have a titanium tonearm.
