Making the switch

Thinking of making the switch from Verizon to AT&T. Reason, for the I phone. I love Verizon wireless coverage and there customer service, but I think I’m ready for a change. I have been with them for at least 8-9 years. I know the droid is similar to the I phone, but it just doesn’t feel the same. It’s kind of bulky and I hate the slip down keyboard, I wasn’t able to text as quick because I kept pushing other buttons. I know it has the touch keypad, which worked well. But the droid just doesn’t feel the same as the I phone. Right now I’m paying $220 a month with Verizon. I have my phone which is the LG voyager. Paying around $110. I get 700min a month with Unlimited Nights and Weekend, V Cast Mobile Package and unlimited Picture and video text. I also got my parents a phone which is under my plan. So its $10 bucks more for each line and we all share the 700min. Then I have my Mobile Broadband which I pay $59.99 a month. And that’s how my bill comes out to $220 a month. My contract with Verizon was up this month. But the other two phones that I got for my parents are not up for another 6 months. I called Verizon and they told me it would cost me $170 bucks to cancel the service for both phones. Or said I can transfer the two phones under my parents if they want to keep the service. Which my parents do. I never been a big fan of AT&T, I actually had them right before I switch to Verizon. So this was 8-9 years ago. But there coverage sucked, they would bill me for shit I didn’t have, and had the worst customer service. I’m sure a lot has changed since 2000. I asked around with people who have AT&T. I asked if they had lots of drop calls, or had any bad experiences with customer?. So far they all seem very happy with AT&T. The only negative thing I got was that they are pricy. But I’m going to go to the AT&T store on my lunch break and see what they can offer me. Anybody here make a switch from Verizon to AT&T?

I have no reception at work with my iphone, sometimes when i make a phone call they don't go through. I had some fights with my girl about me calling and her not picking up but the call when trough my phone but it never rang on her's. Texts will not come in right away and allot of dropped calls. Horrible!!
I was trying to up grade but was told that I couldn't keep my current plan. The fucked up thing is that the minutes went down but price went up. lol
I'm still pondering my movement.......

wait for the new iphone to come out. should be out around summer from what people say. rumors say they may open it up to other carriers as well. wouldn't hurt to wait a bit more.
and from what i hear about at&t (and possibly in conjunction with the iphone), they still have a lot of dropped calls.

Well, I just got back from lunch. I went to the AT&T store and here is what I’m looking at. I phone 3GS 16gb for $199 plus tax comes out to $257.40, Internet Card Velocity, free but got to pay for tax(lol, nothing in life is really free)$24.37. Total for everything $281.77. The plan I will be getting, is 450min a month for $69.99 and getting the unlimited package for Text, Internet, etc…. for another $20 more a month. Which comes out to $89.99 plus tax. There going to charge me $36.00 for a 1 time activation fee for one line and another $26.00 for the 2nd line which is the Internet Card……..So, I’m still pounding what I want to do. I know that I’m going to keep my Verizon Internet Card with them, because I’ve had it for about 4 years now, and back then, they offered unlimited data, now they got rid of it. Now you’re only allowed up to 5GB a month or some shit. So I never upgraded my plan and as long as I don’t. I can still keep the unlimited data. So I’m going to stick with that. As for the phone. She told me that they don’t get good reception in Santa Fe Springs where I work at and pretty much live. So that was kind of a deal breaker for me. But this is what I would be looking at if I where to switch, just without the Internet Card. But after reading the post, and talking with them. I think I’m just going to wait. I wish I can upgrade my phone, without having to renew my contact. I know I could, but I’m not about to pay no $800 dollar retail phone. We all know that’s Bullshit. Anyhow. See what happens. Hoping Verizon can come out with a phone that I like.

works awsome here, (gulf coast)....not as covered as ATT but it works great for where i am. Ya you have to jailbrake the phone but its super easy i was worried about messin up the phone but ive never had a problem, only issue with it is you have to find a iphone, you can buy one for full price from att but i just found someone who had att and had an upgrade to use, i gave him the money ($100) to cover his upgrade and he gave me the old device

I think you have to jail brake the phone in order to work with other carriers.
That's what i was saying about upgrading but it was actually a downgrade.
What I have now is 700minutes $69.99 + $9.99 for unlimited txt and data.

Sorry Deck, I’m a little confused. Only because they didn’t offer me that package. So what you have now, is the upgrade deal?, or is this an old offer they had previously?

It's the deal I signed I think 2 years ago, which I still have.
When I wanted to make the upgrade they told I had the "grampa deal" so if I was to upgrade to try to get the iphone at the new contract price they couldn't offer that deal no more.
Basically I was going to pay more for less minutes and also text and data than what I am paying right now.

to answer your question (which I don't think i did in my last post) is the old offer they had which is what I currently have. I didn't upgrade to the new offer (which is what they're offering you) because less minutes and the unlimited data plan and text was $10 more.

Got it. It's the same thing I have with Verizon(Internet Card). I have unlimited data usage. They do not offer this deal anymore. Now you’re limited to 5GB or something. As long as I don't upgrade or renew my contract. I will continue to keep the unlimited data usage. Just sucks that if I wanted to upgrade my card or something, I would have to pay for the retail price so it doesn’t affect my contract. But wouldn’t get the discount, because they require you to renew your contract. It’s almost a catch 22
