ok i don't know a lot about house music but i know i dig these two tunes A LOT:
Dennis Ferrer - How Do I Let Go
Watchwww.youtube.com
Hercules and Love Affair - Blind (Frankie Knuckles Remix)
Watchwww.youtube.com
i've tried to find stuff on beatport and stompy and have had only a small amount of success
are there any blogs to check out or artists that make vocal house in a similar style to the posted examples? i like warm, soulful tracks with some funk to them.
i'm not looking for someone to do my digging for me. i'm just after some resources i can search for myself
thanks in advance

Check out DFA records on beatport, its the label that put out the hercules and love affair track, and a lot of their releases have that "sound." Also you might want to check out some of the "nu-disco/disco" genre of beatport. It is a pain to sift through some of the garbage, but you'll find some tracks.
on a super side note the vocalist from hercules and the love affair is a tranny.

Check out www.traxsource.com and fill your boots!
Masses of deep / soulful / vocal / disco house on there for you to lap up.
Without being patronizing:
1. Start with a big label such as Defected.... look through a few of their compilation albums from the past few years (as they generally license the type of 'big' tracks that you sound like you are looking for from smaller labels).
2. List a few of the artists / producers / remixers that you like the sound of.
3. Start seperate searches on each of these and dig out the tracks that you like and you will soon be on your way.
4. Repeat x 289374974374942 with other labels / artists / remixers etc.
What used to take us forever in record shops, going to gigs etc, contacting labels / artists etc can now be yours at the click of a button... welcome to the 21st century :)
Please do actually buy the tracks in nice wav/320k rather than robbing via P2P stylee... for $1 a track you can't really go wrong and payign for the music will stop you just downloading a load of cr@p just because its free.
In the long run this will save you ears, build you a better more personal collection I'm certain.

thank you so much for the info. this is exactly what i was looking for.
i completely agree with you regarding fidelity. i purchase most of my tracks in wav format from beatport and turntable lab digital. the only time i spin mp3's is when it's a song that i think will only last for a month or two (i spin at some top40 spots for the $$)

i get everything i think i'll use a lot in wav (i then convert to aiff for tagging purposes)
my record pool is all 320 kb, but i use that mostly for the top40 crap that only gets played for a month or so
i can hear a difference in wav/aiff, some people can't. it's just my preference.

+1
Actually, all the Hed Kandi CD's in general compiles a lot of good stuff. I bought a bunch of them in my beginnings as a DJ and figured out which artitsts and labels i liked and branched off from there. It's a good starting point for getting into soulful house, deep house, vocal house, etc. imho
