So i'm getting a Macbook Pro and would love your input

Dj Nyce 10:48 PM - 15 March, 2010
so i'm looking at getting either a 15-inch, Mid 2009 or a 17-inch, Early 2009 macbook pro. *Both are unibody

what do you guys think about the portability of the 15-inch vs 17-inch. What about screen real estate? What do you think of the built-in battery of the 17-inch?

Also how is the GeForce 9600M GT 256MB vs the 512MB? *with respect to video-sl

Thanks

the 15 is plenty for what you need, The 17 is pretty heavy and big if you need to setup in tight dj booths.

I have the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256mb and it runs ssl/vsl fine so the 9600 should run it with ease

thanks for the input guys. did i mention that the 17 was only $100 more than 15. so if they were the same price would get a 15 or 17?
ninos 12:14 AM - 17 March, 2010

is it going to be your only laptop? do you use it for anything else besides djing? are you going to be flying with it?
Dj Nyce 12:58 AM - 17 March, 2010
i have a win 7 lappy that i'll keep as a backup. the mac will be used for djing and some iphone development (maybe some video editing). i will be flying with the mac.

I just pick up a Macbook Pro Unibody just 2 days ago. Got it for $1500 on Craigslist. Only 1 year old, was in perfect condition and had 2 years apple warranty left. Here are the specs. Not sure if you’re buying from Mac directly or not, but I would suggest to look into craigslist before purchase.

Macbook Pro 15
2.66GHz
320GD HDD
9400M 256MB\9600M GT+GFX 512MB Duel Video Card
4GB RAM

thanks. i'm getting an early or late 2009 unibody from gainsaver.com w/3 yr warranty.
Turn Table Tennis 3:03 AM - 20 March, 2010
New? there are a ton of electronics i'd buy used, but a mac isnt one of them.
Dj Nyce 6:04 AM - 20 March, 2010
used. i hardly buy electronics new anymore. i've had nothing but good experience buying used. 17" early 2009 macbook pro for under $1500 can be beat.
Dj Nyce 6:05 AM - 20 March, 2010
i mean can't be beat
Turn Table Tennis 12:42 PM - 20 March, 2010
lol, ooooh i can beat it. good shit tho.

I would be VERY wary of "gainsaver.com", I've heard (and read) many horror stories about that company.

And if you have any thought of doing video editing (as you mentioned), the higher-res screen on the 17 is really nice for that.
Dj Nyce 3:42 PM - 22 March, 2010
thanks for the warning. i got the macbook and it was in immaculate condition. dope. now i gotta transplant this 1tb hard drive in it.
