overview rebuilding

Product Scratch Live Hardware - Computer Mac
Version 1.9.2 Platform - OS 10.5.8

everytime i connect some type of external device i.e. hard drive or my smart phone via USB or Firewire-->i get a handful of the same video files that want to rebuild overviews (about 20 files). Neither the external drive or my phone has any files or applications associated with Serato or VSL.

BUT, when I DISCONNECT these devices and click analyse, everything seems to be fine with my overviews. (scratching my head).

BTW, this also happens with ALL versions of SL including the previously released betas and 2.0 RC1

Not sure the reason for this, but, maybe it will help you guys with this ongoing mystery. thanks

15" Macbook pro
2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB ram
200GB HD (all music and video files i use are internal--no externals used for Serato or VSL)

Very wierd - what happens when you select for the files to be analyzed? Do they actually analyze? Can you confirm that these USB devices dont actually contain these files?

--with any external device connected that has some type of drive i.e. hard drive or phone storage card, I'll click analyze and the files that I spoke of will start to analyze. When I connect devices like laptop cooler or midi controller, nothing happens when i click analyze.
--but without ANY external devices connected, click analyze and nothing happens

--yes, 100% sure.

There must be some type of ScratchLIVE folder on these drives causing this. ScratchLIVE will not Analyze files that do not exist. So these files must exist somewhere. Have you tried to run a thorough search for these files on this computer?
Sal Boogie 5:58 PM 16 March 2010
RafaelM,
as an example: I've thoroughly gone through my phone (Blackberry Storm) and double and triple checked any and all files that are music and/or video. There is absolutely NO files or apps associated with Serato.

I connected and disconnected 3 times and I continually get the same results.
RafaelM 6:15 PM 16 March 2010
Have you looked for hidden files? Some ScratchLIVE folders were hidden in older versions. Use the Files window in ScratchLIVE to look inside these external devices and look for an invisible ScratchLIVE folder on all the drives. This Files window will allow you to see all invisible folder that your MAC originally cannot see.

Also - when the device is connected - figure out the name of one of the Videos and try to search for it in ScratchLIVE. Then if you find one of these files, reveal the location column in ScratchLIVE and see where it says this file is actually located.

unless there's some special way to look for other hidden files then NO,-- I can see every file and file extension on my phone, no hidden files-- searched thoroughly.

I want as far as to temporarily remove all my music and video files from my phone and same results.

Did you try this:

Also - when the device is connected - figure out the name of one of the Videos and try to search for it in ScratchLIVE. Then if you find one of these files, reveal the location column in ScratchLIVE and see where it says this file is actually located.

I keep the 'location' tab up by default in the 'ALL' crate and it shows these files in their correct folders which are located on my internal HD only.

--another note: whenever these overviews keep rebuilding, the 'date added' column shows the current date as if these files have been just added. (I've had some of these videos for almost 2 yrs now) *scratching my head*....

ok--after some investigating and thinking, i've found out something that may help you help me--ya dig! haha.

As I mentioned the files in question are mp4 videos. Well, what I noticed is that ALL of these files that are rebuilding overviews are ones that I have 'attached' to other mp3 files.

example:
Kid Cudi "Poker her face" Dirty version mp4 is attached to
Kid Cudi "Poke her face" Clean version mp3.

-the other videos are attached in a similar manner. Hopefully this can help solving this crazy mystery. thanks!

What happens when you un-assign these Videos and then re assign them to their MP3s. Does that help?

Not sure why connecting an external device is causing these files to show and build in the Analyzer - do these external devices contain the MP3 that these MP4s have been assigned to?

I'll try this tonight and let you know what happens

like I said, no files associated with SL. But even then, why would these files continue rebuilding but the other files are fine? hmmm....
Sal Boogie 5:25 AM 20 March 2010
Ok--tried 'un-assigning' and 're-assigning' and still the same thing :(

of course when I un-assigned and then clicked analyze the file does not build an overview. Only when I assign it with an external device installed--it still does it!!---I give up....

I still think there is a ScratchLIVE folder on the external device. MACs cannot see invisible folders created by a PC. So maybe try connecting the device to a PC and look for an invisible ScratchLIVE folder.
Sal Boogie 3:45 AM 23 March 2010
ok--i connected to a PC and was able to see all the hidden files and folders on my smart phone and.... nothing to be found.....nothing associated with SL or VSL. I connect my phone via USB to my Mac, run SL and still the same results!

So... I connect a 1 GB thumb drive that has absolutely nothing on it and run SL and STILL get the same results. I've even tried both USB ports to see if it would make a difference and still the same results!
RafaelM 4:18 PM 23 March 2010
Wierd. I have never seen this. I am going to put this thread in view of the Serato team - maybe they can think of something....

So there were no _ScratchLIVE_ hidden folders at all anywhere?

If you get a USB drive, format it completely, and then attach this to your computer does this happen too?

Can you please attach one of these tracks to this thread so we can do some tests with it? Cheers.

With one of these devices connected, can you please click on the ALL... crate, then sort by Location.
Can you list all the main location paths you see ie. C:\
Cheers.
