So a friend of mine just got a "Netgear Wireless router" with this other component not sure what it is but it has the Motorola logo , apparently he connects it to the tv cable output, he said its "free". I connected to it (wireless) and it works, its even faster than by DSL. Is this safe? the router requires no password to connect to it

duh...he's got cable internet and an unsecure wireless router...put a freaking password on that bitch our anyone within range can access it.

look at the label on the router. It will give you the address and login to type in explorer to access the router's settings. once in, change the login and password to something only you would know and enable the secure internet settings....it will generate a password which must be entered on any computer trying to access the router/internet...
