Switching macbooks on a TTM57, is there a catch?

NLS666 7:57 PM - 9 March, 2010
Hi!

I'll be hosting a party friday where I and another dj will be using my Rane 57. He never used a 57 with his macbook. Is there any catch to it? I know windows users need to install the drivers, but am I right that this isn't the case with macbooks?

Also does the Rane always recognizes the new/other macbook? We'll be making the switch with a regular vinyl/cd on an analog channel but I wouldn't want to get in a situation where we would need to switch off the Rane and back on.

Anyone knows if there are any problems to be forseen in this scenario?
let me know... thanks!

with macs, you should be ok, but heed this...

If you want it to work right, a trial run would be best before the gig. There is no substitute.

Ok, let's hope it works out allright. Unfortunately we can't do a trial run because the other dj is coming in when I'm allready mixing.

it's plug and play on a mac, on a pc a bit of setup is required ahead of time

Just remember to take extra REGULAR records or cds to switch laptops. A lot of djs depend on the other dj..

^^ good idea. what we do is bring an rca to mini cord and plug into the aux input on the 57 and hook up an ipod too and put on a mix ;] that way if u hit a snag u got plenty of time to switch the computers. The best piece of advice i have for dual dj's on a 57 tho is to use a Macbook and have the other dj put his songs/crates for the night on a flash drive and just plug it in. No fuss, no muss. One computer all night with all the crates loaded. nice n ez ;]

yeah i agree with siLLyKiD

put yours or his/hers tunes on a pen

Hmm, I'm not sure I completely understand.

I have all my music on an external drive. Does this mean that if I connect my drive to another laptop and open serato I'll have all my crates ready as they would on my own laptop?

got it one

what to do is put tunes on a pen

plug into serato then build crates with the tunes taht ore on your pen then when you plug the pen into a computer the crates will appear on the computer

what you have to do is plug in your external to your mac, open serato, make new crates, and load the songs FROM YOUR EXTERNAL into serato. Once you do this and close serato, it will automatically save your crates in a folder o your external. Now to test this out, find a buddy with another mac book and serato and open serato, then plug in your external. it might freeze up serato for a sec while your crates are loading but it should work all good. Can't stress this enough tho- MAKE SURE YOU TEST THIS METHOD PROFUSELY BEFORE DOING IT LIVE! lol. But I have my flash drive set up to where i can basically plug into any mac book runing serato and my crates will pull up automatically. only time it gives me static is on my homies laptop which is VERY old and VERY slow...so i've stopped doing that with him cuz it crashed a few times and it sucksss!! ;__; but 99% of the time if they got a decent mac laptop it should work fine =] can't speak on PC laptops tho, cuz i don't ever fux with them...Macs are a MILLION times more reliable for serato imo....

Cool, thanks for the advise. I'll check that out once I'll be at one of my friends.

In the meantime the 'plug&play' switching worked perfectly. And... I think I might have converted one more DJ into buying a ttm57 ;-)
