Can anyone recommend a good program that filters web browsing? It's going to be used on a PC running Windows XP. I want to restrict a few sites and P2P file sharing programs. Secondly, I need the program to know which online games are safe for kids and which ones aren't. Thanks for your help!

My kids are still little so they're not using the internet just yet. Also, they don't play video games, etc. Props for trying to protect their innocence.

haha! Shit, when I was growing up, if I wanted to look at porn, I would have to search the dumpster at our complex, because someone was throwing away his/her old porn all the time. I would take the VHS' i would find back to the apartment, dismantle it and put the porn film into a less conspicuous VHS case. Kids have it easy nowadays!
Thanks for the help. I need the parental control for a hand-me-down PC that my 9yr brother recently acquired. And the P2P condom is so that he doesn't download any porn by accident haha. I'm sure he doesn't know the difference between a mpeg and mp3 by just looking at the filename.

For my 11 year old, I use the services offered by AT&T/Yahoo
He signs in using their browser and only has access to websites that I OK. If you goes to some new site, I receive an email asking if it's OK or not.
It's kind of a pain in the ass though. I know he probably goes to the nextdoor neighbor's 12 year old kid and watches porn probably over there.
Who am I kidding?

I never restricted my kids from the internet. Never felt I had to censor them. They know right from wrong and hell, if my son wants to see some titties, I say let him see some tig ol bitties....lol!

I think I'm more concerned about them "To Catch A Predator" type chatrooms.
I saw some interesting porn site come up on the history of his ipod touch web browser that I hadn't ever heard of.
Flash enabled websites don't work on that thing so he only saw the pictures instead of the movies.

Never thought of that. I'll look to see what my cable company has to offer.

That's a very valid point but, there's no harm in trying. Also, having a program which monitors your child's internet usuage can also minimize your chances of picking up viruses and malware. I'll be using this same computer to record using ableton, so I really don't want any viruses slowing the shit down. naw meen?

Zone Alarm Security Suite is pretty nice (especially for XP) , you can control just about everything to access the net (allow/don't allow) and raise or lower the threat levels.
